Rumour has it that it will be announced on September 12, and released on the 21st, which would give them ample time to release a 5th Beta before the GM.
No. GM is typically day of keynote, we are currently expecting it on or very near to the 12th, less than 2 weeks now.

They need time to flash GM to the millions of devices in China, box them, pack, and pallet them, ship them, sort, ship again, etc.

No, Apple's releasing the final product to customers around September 21. GM will be released to devs much sooner than that. There is no way that they launch a beta and then announce/release a GM a week and half later. We're in the home stretch and the next iOS 6 release will be the GM.

Just to see where you're coming from, what date would you give for beta 5?

For those of you who still keep hoping for a beta 5 and beta 6, there is absolutely no way that's going to happen. Here's my reasoning: Next Monday is Labor Day and Apple will not release a beta on a holiday--they want their employees to enjoy the long weekend, too. Then what's left Friday, Sept. 7? That's less then a week from Sept. 12 and they won't release a beta 5 only to release the GM a few days later. So, all the people hoping for new beta, sit tight for a few more weeks and you'll have yourselves a brand new GM.

Or beta 5 could be released today, that be the last chance of getting it.

they normally release the GM day of iphone announcement

not always, there was one that i remember for sure came out on a friday, dont remember if it was ios 4 or 5, and i think there may have been one or two on a tuesday...

Wouldnt it be nice to have a New beta the friday before a three day weekend?

Sorry, I should've qualified my statement with "for 6.0", betas have always came out on Mondays. The precedence was set on 5.1, if my memory serves.

In any case, iOS beta was twice released with 28 and 29-day gap, so I am not saying it won't be done. But it is extremely unlikely, especially since Jim Dalrymple confirmed iPhone announcement date (which is also iOS 6 GM date) as September 12.

I think we'll see one more beta Tuesday, and then the GM will roll out on the 12th. And don't think Apple's iOS software developers have this long weekend off ... they're going OT to get this out the door for early next week. If we don't see anything by Tuesday, then it's safe to say there will be no more betas.

The GM launches the day of the keynote, but the customer version won't be ready until a day or two before or after the new iPhone ships.

That gives them ~ 14 days too.

The GM doesn't launch the day of the keynote, wasn't it usually a few days after the keynote but also a few days before the new iPhone was shipped/available for sale?

GM launches on the day of the keynote/announcement.

Historically,
  • 2.0 (iPhone 3): 15 days between final developer beta and GM, 12 to 22 days between each beta
  • 3.0 (iPhone 3GS): 33 days between final developer beta and GM, 8 to 14 days between each beta
  • 3.2 (first iPad): 12 days between final developer beta and GM, 8 to 14 days between each beta
  • 4.0 (iPhone 4): 20 days between final developer beta and GM, 12 to 14 days between each beta
  • 4.3 (iPad 2): 30 days between final developer beta and GM, 7 to 13 days between each beta
  • 5.0 (iPhone 4S): 34 days between final developer beta and GM, 11 to 18 days between each beta
  • 5.1 (3rd generation iPad) 58 days between final developer beta and GM, 14 to 28 days between each beta

If 6.0 (6th generation iPhone) comes out on September 12, it will be 37 days between final developer beta and GM, 14 to 21 days between each beta. If beta 5 comes out on Monday, which is unlikely since it's a US holiday, it will be 28 days after beta 4 and it will leave mere 9 days for GM release on September 12.

Ah, I was thinking of the release date to the public, as the GM is almost always the same version in technicality. The version is released to the public typically a week after the GM is released to the developers.

Hi guys,
My sources told me that we won't have new iPhone until November
My sources told me you don't know what you're talking about.

But seriously, someone who just joined MR....I believe you....yeah, right.

More than you think, I can't reveal my source but is 100% trusty

I'm guessing it's Miss Cleo.. Just a guess. Also, my sources tell me you're full of it

Well, let's leave It, I don't wanna talk more than I should. But I know for sure that new iPhone will be announce at the end of September and launched in the beginning of November.
