The real question. Will GM be OTA?

It wasn't with iOS5... but then again OTA was a new, beta'ish feature at that time.

I'm not counting on it. But would be nice.
Even if Apple releases iOS 6 over OTA, iOS 5 users should perform full backup in iTunes first, followed by update.

As for developers running iOS 6 beta, it's probably best to perform full upgrade to get rid of any beta-ness anyway.

Yes I know. We(me being a developer will get it on the 12) the public won't have it till closer to the 21st.

you stated developers will have the GM this week. which is not true.

Fair enough, but it's important to note that Apple ha already reserved a stadium for the 12th, of which will be the hopeful announcement of the New iPhone. In which case the GM would have to be this week like I said (for developers anyway). The venue is already reserved friend, so I'm just saying, this is the likeliest scenario.

I don't think you're getting it....

iOS 6 GM will be released to developers the same day the new iPhone is announced (12th - which is NEXT week). Not before.

Then probably a week later (19th) it'll be released to the public.

A facepalm isn't enough in this situation...

Just please stop... After reading a couple of your posts, you have no idea what you're talking about.

However, if I continually refer to you as friend, friend, then I may come off as more knowledgable than I truly am.

Friend.

Its much better.

I'm just praying they fix the issue where you can't delete tracks/albums etc in the music app.

If they don't it makes the whole app useless :(

Apple Store app has received an "iOS compatibility update" as per http://i.imgur.com/f6Rgv.jpg

Could this be a sign that GM is complete?

It most likely has been complete for a few days now, but they'll only be releasing it on Sep 12th.

If you look at the file dates of ipsw files in the past GM releases, they were usually dated about 10 days before the actual date when it was distributed to the developers. I guess they complete the development cycle, calculate a safety margin, and then, on the event date, they publish the file.

OTA updates were new with iOS 5, so of course 5 wasn't an OTA update. Given that Apple advertises that iOS devices are "PC Free," 6 will certainly be available OTA.

Not certainly.

We had to use iTunes to load iOS6 betas to jump into the 'beta' channel, and from there get OTA updates.

But GM is by definition not beta. It's not unrealistic to expect to have to use iTunes to restore back into the 'Release' channel.

It could go either way, but I'm thinking if the iOS6 GM is pushed OTA to all iOS5 devices, then going from beta to GM shouldn't be any different since the GM will be a different version than current beta.

agreed. The GM will come to us developers sooner, and I am sure I will have to use iTunes to load.

Im from California here we go by 7 days a week starting with Sunday even today is Friday. So by my calculation like I said that would still be NEXT week.:D. So maybe in Texas YOUR calander is different so my apologies.

Apple probably wants devs to start out fresh on the GM which is why it probably won't be OTA.

My apologies in advance if I offend anyone with my questions.

I read on this forum earlier that when iOS 5 GM was released, non-developers were also able to download and use it without any issues whatsoever.

In common with everyone on this forum, I suspect, I am a technology enthusiast (but I am not a developer).

Is it expected that I will be able to download the iOS 6 GM upon launch without causing any problems to my non-jailbroken iPhone 4S?

As a follow-up question, if it transpires that I am ok to download the GM, when the public iOS 6 build is released will that be a simple OTA update from the GM?

Thank you.

Legality aside, you should be able to download (if you can find it) and install the GM with no problems. The GM is the same as the public release, so your first update will be the 6.1 release.

That's brilliant, thank you very much for your reply.
