Less than 48 hours to go. Skipped the 4s, It was hardly an upgrade. Incredibly excited for Wednesday, and I don't have to work until noon that day!

Can it be a totally different iPhone ? i mean not the one from the leaks.

leaks seems a bit too easy with videos of booting up, hi res pics !

Remember last year before iPhone 4S came out that teardrop shaped 4 inch iPhone ?

well none of those really leaked those were only concepts, but the 4S leaked. so i think there is some truth in this iphone 5 leaks :)

Go use a 4s and then go back to a 4 and then you tell me it's hardly any different...

obviously the speed is better, but what actually needs that speed? Siri? LOL

the 4S was such a weak upgrade Apple restricted a software upgrade (Siri) to the 4S to help justify the difference

No :D
People said the same with the 3GS, but now there's a big difference between the 3G and 3GS, the 3G only runs iOS 4.2.1, the 3G runs iOS 6.
The difference between the A4 and the A5 is huge ;) (GPU and CPU).
Other features like Airplay Mirroring are also interesting, but they need the power, Siri doesn't.
The camera made also a huge jump.

People are blinded by the outer appearance, and ignore what's on the inside.

3G-3GS leap internally. Some Samsung generic ARM core to CortexA8.
4->4S another leap internally single core CortexA8 to dual core CortexA9. New GPU, new Camera, new optics for the camera. New 3G/4G cellular transceiver that gave more frequencies, world phone, doubled throughput, and introduced antenna diversity operation. Bluetooth 4.0. New battery chemistry to maintain same battery life with higher power using components. The amount and breadth of R&D for all this... wow.

3GS and 4 aren't all that unalike, both are single CortexA8's with the same GPU, just different clocks. But the metal band, glass front and back, and retina display made it 'appear' a leap.

Siri had a lot of legitimate reasons for limiting other devices. Strain on Apple's infrastructure, specific hardware in the 4S linked with signal processing of audio for voice recognition.

I'm not denying the iPhone 4S is a much faster phone, both my parents have one and it's very zippy and I love the fast the camera is

but my point is though that beside the camera in the 4S what actually takes advantage of the new speed? Nothing. There was no turn by turn last year, which would have justified the upgrade like there is this year.

Yikes, looks like I've inadvertently started a 4s bashing match.

Let me clarify. In Canada we have 3 Year contracts, and it would be over $400 to upgrade my 4 to a 4S after 1 year, so it was hardly worth the upgrade to me.

I bought my mom a 4S for her birthday and it's significantly faster than my 4...$400 faster? No

"Too Long Too Quote"
There isn't a "slow clap" emote, sorry man. Thank you. I've been trying to explain all of this to my uncle. He stepped aboard the :apple:Boat the day after I bought my iP3g. He HAD to have one. So now, he owns an HTC X1, more due to his own phone breaking tendencies than a real "care" about any phone.

He said the screen was pretty. (which it is, I'm also a fan of the size, but the phone just feels too light and cheap. - IMO) He also pointed to things like his HUGE clock widget and shifting background, as reasons why Android>iOS. "It can handle/do more" He says.

I thought, Seriously? But he doesn't know anything about them/computers. He just wants it to look cool.

TLDR; Menel is right. And to add, A huge majority of consumers want shiny new toys that draw attention and make them look cool. Which is why the iP4s was a bum release (for them.) you almost always have to ask "Four or Four-Ess?" They hate that. Slap a case on the 5, same thing.

EDIT: I'd like to clarify that I in no way am claiming one OS's superiority to the others. I have no experience with other OSs. Only iOS. I believe that the "superiority" argument is moot. It's like asking "What's the best food." "****** What?!?"

So we wont get the public release tomorrow, but definitely (obviously) before the new iPhone arrives, yeah? :)

Hmmm... I can't remember how that's worked in the past.
But it's usually dev. get GM day of announcement, then public release sometime between that and the release of the new hardware, right?

Developers will get the GM tomorrow. It may or may not be the final. But every time I can remember the GM has also been the final. It certainly will have every feature etc that the final will have and aside from a build number there will be no difference a user will see between the GM and final.

Whether you will get the final before or concurrently with the new phone remains to be seen. Its been the Wed before the release but it has also been the same day as the new phone got released; although i think they learned from that mistake, so we prob will see the final on Wed, a week after the GM.

GM build number= Public build number

The ONLY time GM was different was iOS 4.2, there were 2 GM's to fix a last minute WiFi issue but the 2nd GM was the public build which came to be known as iOS 4.2.1

I would think that iOS 6 Gm will be released tomorrow, with iOS 6 being released to the public on Wednesday, Sep 19.

iOS 5 released the Wednesday before the 4S was released.

GM tomorrow for developers, and then public a few days before the new phone goes on sale
has been like this since ios 4, but the new ipod touches will ship with ios 6.
and they look like they will be shipping for deliver on the 18
