Step 1 is likely back-up, before upgrading, don't you think?

I would upgrade to iOS 7, the problem however is that iOS 7 uses pixel dithering which hurts my eyes. iOS 6 does not use dithering, at least not in native apps. I hope there will be a solution for affected users.
Spread the word so Apple get aware of this problem.
I knew adding bugs would be a bad idea ha, nonetheless still vulnerable to security risks.
I understand you like iOS 6, but honestly I just feel like people are being far too stubborn. Apples job is to keep their software updated and they're doing just that. It's YOUR choice to not update to iOS 7. Sure they could roll out a new iOS 6 update, but why would they?? iOS 7 is their latest version, they're not gonna back track. If you want continued service, then you have to update.. if you want to stick with old thats fine, but you can't expect them to keep it supported.. seriously, are you gonna just stick with iOS 6 forever? do you have high hopes they're gonna go back to it... because they're not going to.
Honestly, have you given iOS 7 a try?? Not just used someones phone briefly, but actually tried it out for a few weeks (more importantly, 7.1). Besides how it looks, its not vastly different then what you're used to.
I think what the poster is trying to say is a courtesy notification would have been a more respectful way to handle the situation.
You're not serious, are you?
I understand it sucks, but I mean at some point they have to stop supporting old software. I mean even if they were to release 6.1.6 for all devices, at some point they're gonna have to stop supporting it, you know? As someone previously said, iOS is their product, not iOS 6. I'm not saying this to be a jerk by the way (I hope you don't take it that way), just being honest.Apple is equally stubborn, why must I get what I dont want? Allow all users to be able to upgrade to 6.1.6 if they want. I dont care if that means I could never update again in my life, give me the choice. Forcing people to be on specific OS so their stats look pretty is just selfish.
I have given iOS7 a try, even jailbroken, I didnt like it. Sold all my devices that had it. It is different, I swipe left to right to delete items, apparently that is the 'back' feature now. I like what I have, and if iOS4, 5, and 6.1.6 still can do facetime, why cant I get 6.1.6?
I find this thread hilarious.
Haha, good move to get those last stubborn people to update to iOS 7. Bravo Apple, I approve.![]()
And exactly what difference does it make to you whether people are using iOS 6 or iOS 7?

I bet there are some fake MacRumors accounts around here controlled by Apple. What's next apple? Are you going to disable imessage too?
I'll give you that, it does seem a bit sudden of a decision. However, even with a proper heads up, you still would have been in this situation. Hopefully, you figure out something thats works for you. I love iOS 7 and truly think it was a step in the right direction, just wish everyone would have a similar opinion.. but can't please everyone.I understand that, but I want to make that choice when I want to, when I have other options. Generally they give a heads up, such as "me.com" will no longer work come mm/dd/yyy, they know when they will stop supporting it, and they have the ability to anounce it. They just fkd me up real good. Right now I can either upgrade (lose) or switch (lose). But I will play their game, I dont need facetime for a phone. It aggravates me that they are squeezing their users out, Im considering a switch just because they'd do that.
Apple didn't "disable" (as you put it) FaceTime. The certificate ran out.
The disrespect comes from the forcing of an upgrade to keep an existing feature. Such an example would be AT&T dropping support for phone calls on a flip phone, if you want to make a phone call come get a free smartphone, it leaves flip phone users without option if they want to keep their flip phone.

By this logic, why was facetime on iOS4 and 5 still working long into the release of iOS6 and 7, there is no realistic reason to abandon support/renew a certificate. ESPECIALLY only for users who CAN upgrade their device. So devices that cant upgrade can still use the certificate? Explain because Im not sure how it works

Hahahahahahahahaha .... Don't like it ? Tough ! Apple will be done with iOS 6 come hell or high water
They screwed up. It's only right and proper.
Yeah, whatever.
Just fix the certificate Apple.
This is ridiculous BS and Apple should be ashamed.
People have the right to be on whatever OS they prefer.
Apple has the right to discontinue support for older OSes
However - for a company that prides itself on customer support, service and satisfaction - it seems like a mis-step to not address this by notifying people as to the EOL of functions.

They did in 6.1.6. Did anyone actually read the article?
"If you're using iOS 7.0.4 or later or iOS 6.1.6, this issue doesn't affect you. "
