wow !

and nobody thought apple could innovate! :D

seriously though these changes are so minor it's a joke.

Apple needs to take a cue from Google and push larger changes on a more frequent manner.

It's a point update, not a major release. Jeesh! And why is it important to have frequent updates like Google?

Apparently no one who has ever worked in making UI aesthetics has ever heard the saying "change for change's sake" and how it is often unnecessary.

A few month long beta to introduce circles over rectangles...is there honestly not more important products or problems these people could be working on?

Yeah... Because these small UI tweaks really took Apple engineers days and days to implement, putting all other development on hold. Oh wait! Maybe it only took one person an hour or two!

Well, I see adding contrast as moving away from a complete flat design.

And as for the shut down bar, I was actually talking about its power button - it looks physically the exact same thing in real life.

Didn't humans decide what a "power" icon looks like. If they had gone with a heart and a knife stabbing through it icon, then that would be skeumorphic! But hey, that doesn't mean it's a bad thing.

There's starving kids in Africa and we're fighting over circles rectangles. Let's be real guys.

those random big circles on the dialer and call screen give me OCD. seem so out of place and remind me of that horrible facebook home launcher on android ^^
Don't think OCD means what you might think it means...

Thankfully, slide to answer is now a button. I've been having major issues with getting my phone to respond to the slide.

I wonder if it will still be a slide from the lock screen. I don't want to accidentally answer my phone when it is in my pocket.

Can anyone tell if reducing the white point reduces ALL colors on the system, or ONLY the specific white used by the UI?

I'd love to make the UI less "bright" but I don't want to reduce the contrast ratio of the display when displaying photos and web sites.
So far it seems like it just makes the white a bit "dull" (or "less bright" as you put it), but that's basically it (again, as far as I can tell).

But accidentally hitting the answer button and picking up a call from someone who you would rather go to voicemail would be a bummer. At least the slider prevented the dreaded "accidentally answered the phone while at the bar when I'm supposed to be picking up the kids" scenario.

It's still a slider when the phone is locked, but it's now a button that you drag (kind of like in the earlier pre-iOS 7 days).

I see several possible reasons for the change, at least as far as the incoming call screen is concerned...
1. To make the contact photo more visible.
2. To space out the buttons so you're less likely to hit the wrong one.
3. To make it more consistent with other iOS7 interface elements.
4. To give it its own characteristic look (the current screen strongly resembles its counterpart on Windows Phone.)
Unfortunately, in the process, it seems like they have gotten rid of full screen contact photos for some reason. So, now, you only get a little circular photo icon on the top right and most of the screen is just a blur over your wallpaper and nothing else.

Did I ever say it was a bad decision? I was merely highlighting how these changes contrast (no pun) with the whole vision premise of iOS 7.

As for starving kids in Africa, by all means, no one is forcing you to take part in this thread, or participate in this community for that matter - all of which are very futile compared to third world famine.

I would love to see some functionality added to the phone screen. For instance when I dial an area code it would be great to see a drop down of names that meet that criteria

Android has a long, LONG way to go to catch up to iOS right now. Android hasn't changed much in 3 years and has grown quite stale because from 4 to 4.4 was an absolute pathetic release. My guess is that they're putting all of their focus on ChromeOS because Android seems to be an afterthought these days. Heck, they barely even mention Android in their quarterly reports. No wonder Andy Rubin was kicked out and the big Chrome supporter, Sundar Pichai, replaced him.

I'm using both and can only speak for myself.... IOS needs work on the iPads period.

He is right. It looks like an unfinished product. and I hope it is unfinished. It's a beta at the end.

No, he is not right, regardless whether you agree with him or not. It's an opinion, something that both ignorance and arrogance confuse with facts.

The small changes like the more emerald green icons, like music controls, and and keyboard are good.

I don't like the more noticeable changes though. I think the sliders here look really bad. I think the sliders we have now are so elegant (and I thought that since the beginning). It's probably much more understandable for people to drag an object through a channel, instead of just swiping vaguely through a colored bar, I'll give them that. I don't like how it looks though.

hmm I preferred the more rectangular look of the buttons on the caller screen.

There definitely is... for example, windowing multitasking on the iPad... however, it seems for Apple "innovation" means constantly reworking the surface, and nothing else.

I'm not sure if these changes make it better or worse. They're minor changes to be sure. My wife still hasn't bothered to update her iPhone from iOS 6, and I must admit that every time I pick it up to use it for something, I get a smile on my face. The smile doesn't last long, though, since I quickly recall that her better UI is on the old version and the UI on the "new, improved" version I have sucks.

One thing that a lot of people seem to fail to realize here that Apple is actually LISTENING to user's complaints/opinions in a way that they haven't ever really done before. Just to mention a few:
- speeding up animations
- toning down too bright icon colors
- providing the option to darken some elements of the UI
- making the keyboard more legible
- providing the option to disable parallax WITHOUT disabling zoom animations
- providing the option to bring back shaped buttons

There is still a lot more to do, but one must be blind not to admit that they are really TRYING. Some might not like every change they make but I personally am happy to see this approach.

Let's wait for the final product and then we'll talk. And even ignorants and arrogant people has the right to give their opinion. Look, u had ur own! So, yes, he is.

Why don't you fix the broken Touch ID instead? Or what about the constantly crashing iPad Mini Retina? It's a nightmare to use either of them. I never thought Apple would sink this far. SJ would never have agreed to releasing such ****** software as iOS 7.

Touch ID isn't broken, it's your 5s, get another one. Mine works flawlessly.
