I'm starting to think the shift key is a mistake. It makes absolutely NO sense. I've already accidentally typed in caps at least 3-4 times in the 2 hours since I installed beta 3. I bet they walk this change back in beta 4.
On the subject of bad keyboard design. Why is the the Send button right next to the Delete/Backspace button in Messages? I can't be the only one who has sent half a nonsense message when trying to correct a typo or bad autocorrect whilst on the move.

First thing I thought of when seeing this was the story in Steve's biography about him hating power buttons and the fact that he didn't want Apple products to have one. Now we have a very distinct power button.
Personally I was a little saddened with they took the power button off of the keyboard.

One thing that a lot of people seem to fail to realize here that Apple is actually LISTENING to user's complaints/opinions in a way that they haven't ever really done before.

I don't want to seem argumentative when I say that they've previously integrated features people wanted (cut and paste). I think a lot of this is a "UI wasn't ready" thang and they are finishing it and also making tweaks as you mentioned.

However, it seems that that Apple's take it or leave it attitude was tolerated because they almost nailed it every time. You can't always please the "we want more" crowd. iOS 7 is a shame because it is probably amazing under the hood but folks are going to remember the rollout of an unfinished UI.

How about they fix the issues plaguing the touch ID sensor. I finally had to turn mine off because my 5s just continuously rebooted & rebooted. Who cares about around circles and rectangular bars.

I just noticed than when accessing the movies on a shared library with the Videos app, the artwork no longer loads and hides the title. Oh, well. If you can't fix it, remove it. But artwork still loads on TV shows and hides the titles.

Playing a movie or music video in the Video app no longer puts the volume graphic in the middle the screen (tried content on the phone and from an iTunes Shared library and from the cloud). Sorry if this was done in beta 2. I can't remember if I whined about it in b1 or b2.

wow !

and nobody thought apple could innovate! :D

seriously though these changes are so minor it's a joke.

Apple needs to take a cue from Google and push larger changes on a more frequent manner.

Er what? It was 10 months between the last Android update and Kit Kat is a mostly a bug fix build....

And when they release a build it takes.... MONTHS if at all to reach a device depending on the device. S4 1-2 months... Sony... No chance.

Not had any problems at all nor anyone else here right now... 14 iPhones... what?

Do you think ios 8 will have circular app icons instead of rounded squares? If the iPads all get Touch ID this year and the home button square vanishes for good...it could become a reality.

Wow, making it look even more like a child designed it......sorry, Apple you have lost me on the iPhone with iOS 7 and this looks even worse.

So far it seems like it just makes the white a bit "dull" (or "less bright" as you put it), but that's basically it (again, as far as I can tell).

It's still a slider when the phone is locked, but it's now a button that you drag (kind of like in the earlier pre-iOS 7 days).

Unfortunately, in the process, it seems like they have gotten rid of full screen contact photos for some reason. So, now, you only get a little circular photo icon on the top right and most of the screen is just a blur over your wallpaper and nothing else.

This outcome seems terrible. When you can take good large photos of your contacts these days it makes no sense to turn them into a little avatar sized photo.

Anything about iOS optimization for iPad ... I thought not ... and the Apple gurus want to come out with a 12" plus iPad ... without optimization.

Once again, Apple, ahead of the curve.

at least ipads get more tablet optimized apps, apps for android tablets are rough...

For me, 7.1 is about the bugs.

Does it stop the random reboots and screen lock-ups?

Also, they haven't solved the biggest problem which is the inconsistent and overall poor buttons in menus and footers.

(Other than that, I like most of the changes. Gradient on logos still not that good.)

Umm, this is nothing new. The keypad numbers on earlier versions of iOS lit up too. It's meant to be a visual indication that you pressed the right button.

Unlocking my phone is a visual indication that I pressed the right buttons...

What ever earlier iOS versions did, it wasn't this obvious. The highlight lingers well past the time my finger moves. It's 4 numbers from a huge input pad and it shows how many have been detected-- we don't need visual feedback of the secret code. Dialing a phone number? Sure, no harm done.

Maybe Siri could read it back to me and engage all of my senses in confirming that yes, I've unlocked my phone.

Still feels inconsistent in the Music app where pushing "Shuffle" toggles the state (Shuffle on, Shuffle off), but pushing "Repeat" brings up a pop-up dialog box that requires actually having to look at what the choices are (ie. when you are driving).

this is the most important thing for me...

Fixed in iOS 7.1 beta 3
Audiobooks now play as expected.

for those that don't know or care... you could not access chapters... so had to kinda scrub a 7 hour file with the up/down - half speed > quarter speed thing. This works great up to an hour but is is hard with longer files.

Perhaps I should remember how to read... and get a kindle :)

Apparently no one who has ever worked in making UI aesthetics has ever heard the saying "change for change's sake" and how it is often unnecessary.

A few month long beta to introduce circles over rectangles...is there honestly not more important products or problems these people could be working on?

There are plenty of problems they should be working on - like sloppy UI elements that appear fromt time to time, overall fluidity, stability etc - but how do you know that they arent? THe fact that they changed the call button to a circle, doesnt mean they didnt also fix a bunch of the strange UI errors.

I agree. The sloppiness of iOS 7 is what bothers me most. It lost the fluidity and smoothness from earlier versions.

Redesigning the entire operating system apparently isn't "big" enough. While Google's been sitting on Android 4.X for years now.

Yep, you're so totally right. Not saying 4.1-4.4 haven't included some neat features, but they've slowed down substantially since releasing 4.0. Mainly because they found a good design and didn't want to fix something if it wasn't broken. You know, kinda like Apple did from iOS 1-6. And now that they HAVE done a substantial overhaul with an entirely new design personality as well as some substantial and incredibly powerful new APIs, you're saying Apple isn't "pushing larger changes"

Lol.

Apparently the problem is that they didnt entirely redesign it again in the 4 months since ios7 landed.

Umh no?

http://www.android.com/versions/kit-kat-4-4/

I personaly like where iOS 7 is, I don't really care for incremental updates like 7.1

Er. yeah. explain what is brand new there? Nothing. Just polished version of previous. Not that it's bad. Android is actually usable now. Well since Jelly bean, everything else was a mess.

To be honest what can G & A but keep adding services now...

at least Apple can add weird hardware things we didn't know we needed like th fingerprint - hopefully this will become a payment method.

Androids are a little hit and miss. Curved screens.. um. rear buttons...er...

Happy for it all to be honest. Bring it on. It's all good for the end user.
