Let us just see if they really release it before the iTunes festival.

Why would you need a keynote for a software update focused on polishing the OS?

i dunno...maybe because i'm used to seeing someone present the latest iOS version via keynote.....ahem (steve jobs).

That would be for a major version update like what iOS 7 had and what iOS 8 will have, for example. Generally not for a (minor) point update, like 7.1 or 7.2 or anything like that.

Sounds like you missed the conversation about how Android has stagnated for years while Apple is still pushing the innovation envelope with things like iBeacons, 64 bit processors, motion coprocessors, dual flash, state of the art hardware designs, a fingerprint sensor that actually works, swipe to go back (a major UI advance); not to mention, many of these technologies are just laying the groundwork for future conveniences and capabilities.

All the while, KK and N5 brought us....

fast processor, bigger IPS screen, wireless charging, NFC, Pure Android, and most of all..... $399 contract free..

Since you, apparently, only use iOS because of iMessage and iTunes you think that applies to everyone?

not saying it does... but if you look at it from a pure utility perspective, those are the two things that an iPhone can do that an Android cant....

but in order to get those capabilities, and iPhone 5S costs $799... and a Nexus 5 costs $329.

Something's off balance here

One of the first things my parents marveled at was how big and beautiful people's photos were when they were calling you.

They, and I, will miss that more than any other change Apple has made with iOS 7.

It's the only reason I'm not looking forward to the update.

go Apple @ SXSW :).

However, again, when Apple doesn't mention a date. They just look up at the sky in vague and say "Any day now." well.... that's always bad...

I'm not a negative nelly, but Apple would have said an "estimated date" if they would be sure... Seems, there not sure about anything now-a-days.

Does Siri sound more natural in 7.1 because she still sounds very robotic and unnatural sounding in 7.0.6

Also how big will 7.1 update be in MB?

Will Apple's servers hold up to the update tsunami when they release this update? :D

Since when does Apple provide dates for (at least minor) releases, short of announcing something for more major ones at keynotes perhaps?

Well, they did say March.... a least we know its sometime in March. Its not a date, but at least they said a month, not just a generalized wording. "Any Day" could mean anything. 2 weeks, 3 weeks. This only *could* suggest it will be maybe 2 weeks, but there is definite to go with.

Where did they mention March?

I've noticed Siri works better off of my LTE connection than my cable connection. I'm thinking the issue is the software, so maybe 7.1 will surprise us.

It's because LTE is generally much faster than your cable connection. Especially on the upload, which is what Siri is.

It's all about understanding business models. The Nexus, at best case scenario, is being sold at break even, and worst case, at a loss. Google makes money when you use the device, or more specifically Google services, to target ads at you to increase its advertising revenue. Google's customers are advertisers and you are the product.

Apple's devices all have a healthy profit margin attached to them because that's their MO - to make money off of selling hardware. In return, you are the customer, not advertisers. So you're not inundated with advertising.

Pick your "poison."

They've never given an exact release date on anything. And when they have given windows, they've either been late, or right at the end of the window.

Both devices generate ad revenue for Google. I use my iPad and i'm spammed with ads in Safari or Chrome. That's where most of Google's money comes from, once you take your Nexus or iDevice online.

Does this fix the false spotlight search launch when swiping left or right on the home screen?

So basically, the Nexus 5 introduced no real innovations and is sold at near cost because Google will make it up by selling your information to the highest bidder, and that impresses you?

That's just one facet though. Detailed user information is highly valuable to advertisers because it leads to higher conversions. That means Google can charge more and get more repeat business.

And Android is the perfect vehicle for Google to learn everything about its users. In fact, Eric Schmidt has been quoted as saying that Google knows so much about its users that they know what the user is going to do even before the user does.

Google can't get that level of detail from iDevice users unless they're using Google's services for everything.

who cares about sxsw!!! What about the horrible battery life.

Its wonderful that apple want to show off to the cool kids with a new app but it would be nice if they fixed all the horrendous faults of the horrible ios7 like the incredibly horrific battery life. Please bring back Scott Forestall!!! Io7 is a horrible, horrible, horrible update...did I mention that it just really stinks.

Grumbling in CA.
