That may be part of the intention but they surely aren't going to get the level of bug reports without a subset of users outside of the dev community. Again we are talking about APPLE, the company with hundreds of billions in cash.

Maybe so but how is battery performance something that needs to be re-learned on every friggin new version of the OS? You'd think they know that is 1. A priority and 2. Something that they've optimized on every previous version of the OS. 3. How does a beta even go out without having battery life optimized from day one?

Three years ago Apple said that allowing apps to run in the background was terrible on battery life. This hasn't changed, but Apple went ahead and allowed users to pick whether or not to have the new feature since Android had it. Want to save battery? Turn off Siri lift to face, disable Background App Refresh, and pay attention to how often GPS is flicking on for your phone. I've noticed location services runs far more often and that turning on requires the GPS antenna to be on. GPS is comparatively a huge power draw. While this won't return you to iOS 6 level of battery life (Your phone does more now. Those new features aren't free in terms of CPU and GPU usage), it will help some.

Oh and I noticed the ICON TEXT now has DROP SHADOWS when against white background. Very obvious at the third row, with the Temple Run II icon. It's not in the other non-white background, like Line Runner, first icon 4th row.

Thanks, Leo. So iOS 7 is smart enough to only add those ugly drop shadows where the background is light enough that it could theoretically improve legibility? So avoiding the drop shadows should be as simple as choosing a background that isn't too light?

I like it, now bring back shadows and make the icons less ugly. especially the camera, voice memos and safari icons. Then I will use it again.

It looks like the "More" tab in an app with more than 5 tabs got a nice redesign. In B2 this was still the iOS 6 style and broken (e.g. iTunes app).

Best Beta so far!! My phone hasn't crashed yet. Everything is responsive and the improvements are welcomed. The only thing I've noticed is some of the text is mashed together in certain apps. Almost like they are built for wider screens.

Who ever is complaining about ugly icons needs to get a life. After going from iOS 6 to iOS 7 for two + weeks then going back to iOS 6 you really notice how much better iOS 7 looks and feels. I am so ready for iOS 7 to come out.

Definitely a great improvement all around. Its almost to the point I don't need a jailbreak anymore. The only thing I am missing is free tethering.

For the first time since its release over a year ago?! :p I'll believe it when I see it.

I ended up switching to iCatcher, which has more options and is frequently updated (although not without its own quirks). We'll have to see how Podcasts is in the final release of iOS 7.

I agree... they all have their quirks. Podcasts is fine, but lacks the one feature I insist upon... great big screen areas for skip forward and backward by x seconds (as opposed to tiny little buttons). That allows you to jump completely by touch. Crucial for me.
The only one with that is Pocket Casts by ShiftyJelly.

It's an intentional bug to combat people using it that shouldn't be, making people go to the developer centre to find the answer in the developer forums. Those who have legit access, find the answer, those who don't, are screwed! :p

It's a pity the font has been thickened. The thinner font was really classy and stylish!

So freakin glad I saw this post. I feel like I'm the only one who is upset about the font going back to the way it was in iOS 6 #.

Having the same problem :(
Any solutions guys?

I've submitted to Radar, but temp solution:

Use the sim eject tool to open then close the tray. I then removed the pin (Settings->Phone) to prevent the problem until next beta

Then don't make it connect to that network lol

I'll bring up a separate point: When I'm riding the bus at my University I'm often times just on the edge of WiFi range, so I have to turn off WiFi or else my iPhone will keep trying to connect while never having a stable enough signal to use the internet at all.

I am hoping they change Spotlight back to the usual swipe right to activate.

Having to "top" swipe down for the Notification Center, and "middle" swipe down for Spotlight is getting highly annoying, because I never get what I'm swiping for.

Perhaps I use it more than most, mainly to launch apps that are in folders on pages 2 and beyond.

Why change it?

You can get the search but just pulling down on the middle of the home screen. Better than going through what you describe and just as easy as swiping all the way to the left, and works where you are on your pages of aps

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect APPLE to produce a beta that at a minimum has decent battery life. We aren't talking about some small niche company here, it's APPLE for **** sake. Stop giving them a free pass on everything.

It's unreasonable for the final, but not unreasonable for a beta. The beta is expected to have problems, it's an unfinished product. You can't fix everything at once, so there will be problems and sometimes that problem will be battery life. It's not a free pass for just Apple, it's a free pass for anybody who releases an unfinished product, specifically tells you it's an unfinished product and expects people to treat it like an unfinished product.

Dude, dream on...

The only reason people continued to buy Apple stuff after Android had caught up on the technology side, was the much better UI. With iOS 7 that advantage is gone - it looks bland, unsophisticated and people will get bored with it very quickly. I can look at the old Safari icon for a minute and still find interesting details - with the new icon I'm bored in half a second. That the UI can be modernized without losing that love for detail was shown in the original concept I linked to (here it is again: http://www.behance.net/gallery/iPhone-6-An-edgy-concept/7617209).

Ive had some good product design ideas in the past (the new Mac Pro sucks, too), but he has no clue about UX/UI design and what it takes for people to create an emotional bond with a piece of technology. It's sad, but it's true....

I'd give you the benefit of the doubt if it weren't for your username.
I see what you mean about the icons. There has definitely always been a lot of work on icons at Apple and the certainly is one of the reasons their UIs look so great. These new icons look simpler, that doesn't necessarily mean they are bad. I like beautiful detailed icons, with details you discover later, too. I also like iOS 7. I think that they'll keep making beautiful icons on OSX. A portable device needs icons that can easily and quickly be recognized.

About that concept, a lot of work certainly went into it. Two problems though :
- gestures seem too complicated. I see Apple adding optional gestures in time, but these would be implemented not only beneath the screen but also all around on...
- the bezels. They are very important for putting content at the center of attention. You don't want to look at a movie (in a subway for example ) without bezels, the background becomes a lot more distracting. It's even apparent in the concept's images. I too am dreaming of Apple making an iPhone with a bigger screen (not that I absolutely need it now, but in the future) while retaining the same form factor. That would be a big FU to Samsung. Of course you can't make it much bigger and keep a bezel (see terrible ms paint I just did, the screen is slightly bigger).

And finally, it's not because graphene is so resistant that a single layer of it would resist a simple nail scratch. That part was pretty ridiculous.

Yes, but hasn't Apple implemented a function that uses cellular data when wifi is unreliable? I wonder if it works well.

The clock icon in the Control Center looks nothing like a clock. It looks like a tachometer or something, like I should click it to get a system monitor or something. Whatever happened to two hands on a clock?

Looks like a timer to me. If you want to know what time it is, just look up at the time on your lock screen/home screen. I use the clock app for timers, stop watch, alarms...This icon seems to denote these functions.

I have to admit, the layout of IOS 7 does grow on you. Yes, it is a huge departure from IOS 6, but given time, it does look simpler and sleeker.

Keeping this up, it will look nice come GM and full release.

BL.

Definitely grows on you. Me personally, I liked it from the beginning, but after I went back to iOS 6, I REALLY missed the "feel" of iOS 7. It just seems "lighter" and not so heavy like iOS 6. The features iOS 7 has to bring are awesome and brings more functionality. If it wasn't for this iPhone 5 being my only device, I would have kept the beta on it. Unfortunately because its beta and there are just too many bugs for me based on my use of this device, I needed to go back. I just hope on final release, iOS 7 is as fluid, smooth, and effortless as iOS 6 has become.

I'm not sure that we won't get tired of it quicker than for the old look though. I like it a lot, I just have that feeling. I find it odd to say this but it's probably related to how the icons look, not the whole UI.

A new way to represent new tweets...

Have not noticed this on another icon except Twitter yet.

I guess this is in addition to numbered tags, but not sure yet.

No that just replaced the "New" badge, that showed you have a new app. Like if you download an app and haven't opened it, before it would say new, now it has the dot.

Possibly. If you have ever jail broken your phone and used the theme iflat, they did a great job of creating that flat look, but still adding depth (if that makes sense).

I think Apple has to side with people like me here, since there were enough of us, who had a visceral hatred to the idea of turning his previously joyous iPhone into a hard-to-read brick.

They love their impressions. How are they going to sell these when people stop by an Apple Store and can't read anything?

Keep in mind your device is relaying your dev testing data back to apple nonstop. This wont happen once the os is live.
