iOS 7 → iOS 8

I saw somewhere else (settings perhaps) that this icon has a light grey border around it. Perhaps that got missed on the airplay screen?

Good catch. Twitter was just updated today, any word on changes related to iOS 7?

I have no doubt that iOS 7 is going to save the iPhone.

I mean, not that it needed saving … but now the software finally is on par with the quality of the hardware.

Simply incredible what they've created.

Oh please. We're on MacRumours. We're all Apple fans. I for one love iOS 7, and IMHO the only thing wrong with more modern iPhones was the software. Apple's hardware has always been second-to-none in terms of attention to detail and build quality.

You may politely disagree with what I said, but to imply that I've got rose-tinted glasses on just because I don't share your opinion is arrogant, to say the least.

I'm sure 90% of MR posters these days are afraid to seem like too much of an Apple fan, for fear of being branded an 'iSheep'. To quote Tim Cook: why are you even here?

Not going to argue about the hardware its the one thing that about apple that I love.

Have you used ios 7? I am and it's fine. Again it's basically ios with a few tweaks that other platforms had or were available if you jailbroke your phone.

I guess what people think of it graphically are going to be personal but I find most icons really ugly and I'd prefer a darker theme. The white gets hard on the eyes.

It's a fine os still but not really new and "incredible" and will unlikely have anything to do with saving the iPhone/ios which will probably never need saving because most iPhone users are happy with it as is. For the current iphone user who don't see everything that apple does through rose coloured glasses and prefers the best tech product available regardless of brand name and operating system they may start looking else where.

I wouldn't have dreamed of any other smart phone from the original iphone to iphone 4 but Android along with Google's services have really caught up. Along with a pretty good stint with a S3 I wouldn't rule out using my next upgrade to by an Android device. I'm hoping Apple can make some major strides especially going more web based or multi platform. I can never force all my friends and family to use apple products.

There has to be a middle ground. I disliked the skeoumorphic design(s), but too simple is overkill. Why not port OS X elements into iOS? Screen real estate may limit some aspects, but try shading, altering transparency in apps/settings/notification center/control center/etc. Detail doesn't need to be skeoumorphic, it simply needs crisper and cleaner UI elements.

It is now easier again to change songs on the lockscreen. Last beta was way too sensitive. It seems unlocking from that area is now disabled.

I still can't stand how the controls are always displayed. I miss the time being displayed above the album art and only when the home button is pressed twice do the controls appear. Is this no longer possible? I've searched settings but couldn't find anything.

Some of us care way too much about the details... Beta software is for TESTING YOUR SOFTWARE, not to slowly follow Apple's changes and criticize them before they even become officially released.

I noticed the panoramic wallpapers are gone. :(

I liked those (I made some cool ones too) but oh well... :p

Slide to unlock sound is gone.. Hmm.

Was it really needed. Many might say no. After all you can see that it is unlocked.

Except Steve is one of the biggest lovers of skeumorphicism there was.

And? So what if that's what Steve liked. He's gone. He doesn't run Apple anymore and the current folks feel differently. Change is part of life and tech.

working, manageable dictionaries - nice to see!

Using a moon image for "Do Not Disturb" isn't any better than our old friend skeuomorphism.

Yep, been running first beta on my iPhone 4 since it came out. I'm really enjoying the changes.

I've tried jumping into Android many times but just haven't found the appeal. iOS 7 personally makes me tingle and I genuinely do think it's brilliant.

However I completely understand if you think I'm taking the Apple marketing hook, line and sinker. I might well be, for all I know; just a deluded fanboy. ;)

But iOS 7 does everything I need it to, far better than any previous iteration has done, and if something's lacking I'll either jailbreak (as I have done in the past), or eventually give up and jump ship to something that better suits my needs (which is how I got into Apple with my first white MacBook :D)

So... is it possible there will be black and white version of iOS 7 (depending on the color of your device)? It has begun with the boot screen, some guy had a black keyboard on his black iPad Mini. The black version could look similar to this:

One thing I don't get with iOS7. Apple dropped the chopping knife on every ounce of fabric, wood, metal styled UI element, yet they kept a paper background for Notes? Why? It looks hideous, especially with the yellow font.

If we are going to go to that level then why use a conventional battery to show available power when the battery in the phone looks nothing like the icon. People associate a battery to look like a regular battery one puts in remotes and such.

There will always be references to real objects people can relate to. This was never a problem. The intense use of textures and objects to mimic real life objects was simply too much. Remember the leather in the calendar?

From wiki: A skeuomorphis a derivative object that retains ornamental design cues to a structure that were necessary in the original.[1] Examples include pottery embellished with imitation rivets reminiscent of similar pots made of metal[2] and a software calendar that imitates the appearance of a binding on a paper desk calendar.[3]

The oversimplification that has been done with the icons was ridiculous. I find myself spending more time reading the text than choosing the icon.

Finally, DO NOT punish your users by removing things that have become natural to them. Going left on the home screen MUST, send you to "spotlight"/search iPhone. Why make everyone angry about something that is useful and everyone is used to?
There is no inovation in sliding from the top, it is just someone's fit out of lack of innovation. Wake up!

Dude, now you can access spotlight from every screen, think about it.

I'm loving the new colours. Can't wait for this OS, it's not as revolutionary as I hoped (wanted something much more "live") but it'll do.

Ha, I hope so! My one worry about iOS7 is that it'll look odd on a black iPhone.
