Nice! I miss widgets on the iPhone - get access to quick information or settings. Not expecting them to make an appearance in iOS7.

Though they are mock ups and nothing more. I tend to ignore mock ups - especially if they aren't based upon rumours or reality.

It LOOKS pretty nice....however, implementation is one thing people always seem to overlook.

For example, double tapping an icon to bring up a widget. Just think about that for a minute. How would you implement a way to double tap an app icon, WITHOUT launching the app? Currently, immediately after you tap and let go it launches. The only way would be to make a delay for a potential double tap, and if there is no double tap, it launches the app after the short delay. That would slow down the quick fluid iOS experience.

And on top of that, I have to ask the point. If you're TAPPING the icon, why wouldn't you just let the full application launch. Hell, you even have to tap it an extra tap to get a scaled down version of the application, albeit on the home screen. Personally, I'd love to see certain things get widgets on the home screen, like settings toggles and music controls or even weather, but this doesn't seem like the correct way to implement. Its a neat and nice looking idea, but in practice the execution seems flawed.

I personally could see Apple implement widgets in a way similar to dashboard. Separate home screen areas for widgets, so they aren't constantly running until you want them. Maybe they could have Dashboard exist above the current home screen area. Swiping left and right, as it is today, pages between app pages. Swiping up and down switches between "Launchpad" and Dashboard.

A double tap to bring up the widget wouldn't work out. I had a double tap in one of my apps and finally had to offer up long-press because everyone hated double tap. Too often they would tap just slow enough so that the OS would recognize it as a single tap.

yep. a double tap implementation would just slow down the whole experience.

Access to preferences like BlueTooth and Wifi makes sense in the mockups.

However, few points on the implementation of the widgets. Apple won't go for this because the look and feel of widget is very much down to the individual developer, which then subsequently clutters your home screen(s) with an inconsistent and utterly fugly bunch of nasty widgets. Unless they really limit the widget API to simply display some info (as exposed by the app developer) in a consistent iOS look and feel, which would then look similar for all widgets.

Secondly, the suggestion to be able to reply to messages and interact whilst the screen is effectively locked is flawed. Someone could reply to a text on your phone even though you had it locked. The idea for quick interactions like this is good, but it needs more thinking about how this can be cleverly and efficiently combined with unlocking.

Apple need not go any further than to Cydia for ideas regarding iOS7.

I miss those days. :(

Ridiculous!!!

No point in putting toggle buttons in lock screen. Its against usability practices of Apple. Almost all the concepts shown are ridiculous!! These changes never gonna come in any iOS I can bet.

Multiple Users

I'd just like multiple users. I need a profile for my kids and one for my wife and I. That would solve a lot of headaches.

That could become nasty. How would this work in terms of iTunes accounts? A one-to-one mapping?

for iOS7, apple will obviously come up with what they think is best
here's my wish-list:
. "facebook home" type of a user interface with an apple social network
. the ability to turn it off and have the standard iOS with more inter-app sharing capabilities

Well - Nooks, Kindles, etc; have it. I'm not saying i have the answer to your question, but I'd like to have the same seperate user experiences and controls I also have on my iMac. :)

I don't find his widgets concept all that appealing. The main advantage widgets offer is glanceable information. If I have a calendar widget on my home screen that shows my next few appointments it means that a) I merely have to unlock my phone to immediately see that information abd b) I don't have to open the calendar app. This designer's solution is pointless: it forces me to double tap an app icon to 'open' the widget; there's no glanceable information at all and there's no way of knowing what exactly you'll see when you double tap. It's easier to just open the app.

I have the app Bluetooth On/Off. Works like a charm. One step bluetooth the way it should be. Since getting the Pebble it really helps.

Widgets would be a nice addition but where Apple is really getting their OS handed to them is in customization. Android is absolutely killing them there. Being "open" isn't really the advantage if you give developers options.

Personally I don't like bastardizing the look of icons and changing iOS themes out for gaudy crap but it seems like there's a huge cottage industry just waiting for Apple to open up an API and say "here you go, make iOS as ugly—or beautiful—as you want it" especially on the home screen. Let people run all the widget launchers, theme changers and tweaks they want but give developers the tools they need to do that. I could even see a "themes" section on the App Store so Apple can cash in.

The mobile phone is personal. Let people make it look as dumb as their hairstyles and clothing if they want.

Yes, certainly on iPad. It just seems odd, seeing as Apple pioneered multiple users in Mac OS. I don't understand why they haven't brought it to iOS yet.

some stuff like the widgets seems like a good idea some look messy tho' it's still a great idea, this is what fans, the press and even obnoxious analysts want at least

Why is a concept on the front page? It's not even a rumor. It's just straight made up and doesn't even involve a feature we think is coming.

I tend to dislike concepts as they are poorly thought out, and this is no exception. Controls and message reply from the lock screen take away the point of the lock screen. Quick controls for apps when a full screen is 0.1 seconds away. OSx style mission control for something designed to be simple and focused in use.

It's like people forget the purpose of the product and simply become interested in something new whether or not its better. iOS hasn't really changed too much and that's one of the g r eat things about it. The only changes I think it needs is are live tiles, setting and deleting default apps, biometric log in, and NFC. And less skeumorphism of course.
