No, that's why people thought the iPhone 5 was boring.

Everything got leaked beforehand. The announcement had zero surprises.

The iPhone 5 is boring, nothing could have saved it, no matter when they showed off the software.

I call BS - the developers for IOS and OSX are two totally separate teams and operate totally autonomously of each other - they don't just 'get pulled across'.

There is so many specialisation to each OS they can't just move people around, the amount of internal financial issues this would cause would be unreal!

Just to add, if they need more developers they believe it or not recruit them and each department has it's own budget and revenue streams to deal with that.

I love how rumors are completely fake, one random guy says a random thing based on what he has read in internet too.

I bet the UI will not be flat at least.

as far as I am concerned, the iphone and its iOS is its top money making revenue stream and if they feel iOS 7 needs to make an impact in the market you know damn well Jony Ives will get to use his power card to make the right decisions. As I remember correctly, Jony Ives is still an authoritarian at Apple.

I am not sure how Apple is ran, but in an agile environment people can and will be moved into teams if the story needs the resources.

It has been done before. Apple delayed the launch of Leopard due to the fact that they needed to pull some of the OS X engineers to work on the iOS 1.0 release.

All I really want at this point is a better music App.

I'd like to add the song playing into a new playlist on the fly.

I HATE the star system.

And maybe a system like TuneUp universe where they give the youtube link for what you're listening to and the option to post to Twitter of Facebook.

Maybe bigger buttons for iPod controls on the lock screen.

Maybe the ability to set your ringtone to whatever you want in your song list...

Maybe not treat us like infants and make up pay for a rendered track THAT WE OWN for $1

Maybe look at what the Jailbreak community has had for 5 years now and stop being such chumps when it comes to updates.

Maybe at least give us the same stuff you get on Android ???

I'm pretty sure that the music apps will be updated to match the iTunes 11 UI.

In a Branch chat, which at the time of this writing is still going on, Daring Fireball's John Gruber says, according to what he's heard, iOS 7 is running behind schedule and that it will bring a significant user interface (UI) refresh.
Gruber went on to say that he's heard that iOS 7 is a "significant system-wide UI overhaul" and the iOS engineers who are allowed to carry around devices with iOS 7 on them even have special privacy filters on their devices which reduces viewing angles. This is to prevent others from accidentally getting a glimpse of the new iOS design.

Back in 2007, Apple delayed the release of OS X Leopard to concentrate work on iPhone. Gruber hints that this could be the case with Mac OS X 10.9 and iOS 7.

iMore's Rene Ritchie follows up Gruber's comments, saying that he's heard that Ive's work with iOS 7 is "making many people really happy, but will also apparently make rich-texture-loving designers sad."

His comments come during a Branch talk that includes Gruber, Ritchie, TechCrunch's MG Siegler, Engadget's Tim Stevens, The Next Web's Matthew Panzarino and more.

Ritchie follows up his earlier predictions, noting that he's heard that an event for a new, 9.7-inch iPad is or was planned for April, but it was contingent upon the new iPad being ready for release. He also notes that he's hearing the iPhone 5S will arrive in August, although Ritchie also says it could be a July/August window rather than a specific month.

As for what could be on the iPhone 5S, both Siegler and Panzarino say they've heard a lot about biometrics on the new device. The feature would apparently be used for payments and identification. Panzarino notes it wouldn't be surprising to see AuthenTec's biometric technology in Apple devices so soon after Apple purchased the company last July because of the urgency of the deal.

Finally, Siegler says he's heard "a whisper" that Apple's Passbook team is due for a shakeup and is in "shambles," though Ritchie points out that Forstall's departure could be the reason for the Passbook team's troubles.

iOS7 is about to be a *****t Show....

At this point just give us iOS 6.5 and some totally need hardware!

Once again, Apple is showing that iOS devices, these iToys, are more important than the real computers.

Here is what I think you don't get! Almost everyone buy phones, at least once in 24 months. "Real Computers" (whatever that means now days) not everyone. I have iMac from 2011 (to use for video editing and photography stuff) and not planing on buying another one for at least another 2 years. Since 201O I have had 2 iPhones and 2 iPads. Apple is making more money from "iOS Toys" then from what you call a real computers. Why would anyone (most people) who only want to get to the internet use computers?

That's why I think iOS is priority for Apple, and I know many around here hate that.

iOS 1.0 and the original iPhones were a different matter, back in those days Apple was a different structure.

These days the revenue streams are very separate and so are the employees.

(One ex-Apple employee who know a fair few core and IOS developers)

That is awesome.

"I'd like my device to be inherently insecure and vulnerable to attacks from the outside world, just so I can download and run free **** I don't want to pay for!".

That totally just made my day.

Wow this is awesome! A total ignorant comment about jailbreaking about stuff that is not even related to the spirit of jailbreaking!

Reality check, jailbreaking was here before the App Store and was here for reasons that are even bigger than pirating apps. Next time take a few minutes to fact check your ignorant and troll comments.

Is Clayton Morris on crack: "April Event: iWatch, Flat Panel TV, new iOS cards app. In that order."

Other than the 128GB iPad 4 Apke hasn't released a NEW product since Novmber! They are getting a bit stale.

I wouldn't mind a break from OSX upgrades this year. I'm starting to agree with the Snow Leopard junkies that the last few OSX bumps haven't added enough interesting stuff... Except to bump the OS compatibility version. I'd rather a patch with a few new cliud features than an upgrade.... I'd really like to see something NEW we havent seen before and didnt know we couldnt live without, added to iLife and/or iWork.

A year of coasting isn't bad... It lets more people catch up and jump on the wagon. I know I will need a new MacBook and iPhone because they are 4 and 3 years old this fall. But I like not being forced to update just yet.

iOS7 seems to be a huge gap with the previous versions

Sounds like my previous prediction might be close to right! I should become an Analyst - assuming this turns out to be true..

As others have said though better late and working than early and buggy. But wll the 4 4S get the full iOS 7 treatment? Or will they drop the support for the older screensize?

Wow who would have thought a launch would be contingent on a device being ready.....

Analysts and insiders are such a knowledgable lot.

To all the fools talking about Forstall, let's be clear it must come from complete ignorance of the man's skills and accomplishments.

As a principle architect on AppKit any half wit knows his legacy will not be centered around authorizing and supporting skeuomorophism. His legacy at NeXT and Apple is quite secure.

Not everyone who worked around him, myself included, ever had a problem calling him out if they thought his attitude crossed lines.

BILLIONS of dollars and they can't hire more people?

That's how you run a healthy company. No sleeping pillows when in good times, keep costs low, effectivity high and don't waste a dollar. It keeps employees sharp and focused. Creds to Apple. And thank you for not hiring just anybody to work on iOS7 ;)

But wll the 4 4S get the full iOS 7 treatment? Or will they drop the support for the older screensize?
Doubtful imho. They are still supporting the ancient 3GS with software - leaving out 3 generations (3GS, 4, 4S) at once in one big leap would be stupid, especially considering they are still selling at least two of them actively.

“Ive’s work is apparently making many people really happy, but will also apparently make rich-texture-loving designers sad.” - Rene Ritchie

What exactly does this mean? Rich texture? Is that like the Passbook shredding feature? or the Calendar app on the iPad?

Probably means flat icons and black and white. Something like iTunes on iOS.

That's how you run a healthy company.
That's how you burn through human resources and tarnish your company reputation for not being able to work on more than one project at the same time.

It keeps employees sharp and focused.
Yeah - people like to suddenly get pulled out of their current work and plunge into something completely different. Increases their productivity for sure.
