Well, I upgraded my iPhone 6 to 8.0.1 and so far I cannot see any ill effects, TouchID works and I seem to have normal cell phone service.

I updated from the phone. I am with AT&T.

Not sure whether it matters or not, but I did a few restores of the phone when I got it on Friday.

The update downloaded on my phone and I installed it when I got home from school. I am getting "No Service" on my unlocked iPhone 5 which is on AT&T, so I don't believe this issue is limited to the 6/6+

Am I expecting too much? First Apple botches the iPhone keynote, then the iPhone pre-order just sucked, then the iPhone 6 Plus bending skills, and now iOS 8.0.1 creates more problems than it fixes. C'mon Apple, get your ***** together.

I know... first world problems, but when I pay loads of money for these products and services, I think I'm entitled to b*tch online when they don't work as they should. Technology is supposed to enhance one's life, not create annoyances.

It is indeed a carrier update issue. Everyone remembers getting those "carrier updates" about cell towers? Seems the iOS update hit before the carriers updated that file so the new iPhone 6 models had no cell tower contact information.

And that affects the touchID as well

Sounds like an underground movement was going on for some time to get rid of Forstall.

Everyone know's pretty much way he was fired, but not deserved.

No nobody really knows why he was fired. The best guess is Cook wanted an executive team all about collaboration and Forstall didn't play nice with others when Steve wasn't around.

This would sound pretty plausible, except the update killed touchid too.

It is difficult to imagine how something this obvious slipped by their QC.

Not really. May not be a bug but rather someone accidentally promoted a pre-prod build for release. Bad Release Management likely more than a bug this big got missed.

Preproduction builds often only work with stubbed environment hooks that don't match production. Like.,...local cell towers hard coded in system for testing.

The files for iPhone 6 Touch ID seem to be missing, it probably was a pre-release build.

My 6 has same issue. No service or touchID. So do we know the fix yet. Saw people did what they recommended and it doesn't work.

Any new suggestions?

*laugh*

I feel bad for those affected by the update but it was morbidly and comically fascinating to watch the previous thread morph from "Apple is great for doing this so quickly", "Only Apple would do this for their customers", and "This is why I love Apple" to "OMFG" in a matter of minutes.

I should have been working but I just couldn't look away. It was like a watching a train wreck in real time/slow motion. I had the additional theater of one of my co-workers tearing Sprint customer service a new one for, and this is a direct quote: "Trying to end my life" and "This phone is how I eat. If I can't make calls, I literally can't eat. You people are trying to murder me." He is wired beyond all reason.

Hopefully this will be resolved fairly quickly for everyone's sake.

This made my day. Thank you! :D

I've written this up for iPhone users to restore back to 8.0, feel free to share it.

Apple has pulled iOS 8.0.1 from the Developer Center and it is also no longer available via an over-the-air download. Got iOS 8.0.1 and have had the Touch ID and Cellular NO SERVICE issues? Here is how to fix that for the iPhone by reverting back to iOS 8.0.

1. Based on the model number of your iPhone, you will be able to identify which iOS firmware file you need to download. You can find model number on the iPhone’s back cover.

iPhone 4s Model Number(s): A1387 ; A1431
iOS firmware file needed: http://appldnld.apple.com/iOS8/031-05612.20140917.FB40v/iPhone4,1_8.0_12A365_Restore.ipsw

iPhone 5s Model Number(s): A1457 ; A1518 ; A1528 ; A1530

iPhone 6 Plus Model Number(s): A1522 ; A1524
iOS firmware file needed: http://appldnld.apple.com/iOS8/031-05555.20140917.YWW0v/iPhone7,1_8.0_12A366_Restore.ipsw

2. Plug your device into your computer

3. Turn off the device by holding the Sleep/Wake or Power button and swiping it off

4. Hold the power button for 3 seconds

5. Begin holding the Home button without releasing the Sleep/Power button for 10 seconds

6. Release the power button and continue holding the home button until you get a popup from iTunes that your device is recognized as being in recovery mode.

7. Now hold down the (Mac Option/Alt) (Windows: Shift) Key and click on the Restore button. In the navigation sheet that appears locate the ipsw file you just downloaded and click Choose. Again, this will wipe out all the data on it so be sure to have a backup.

8. Be patient and wait for the installation process to be completed by iTunes

9. Once the restore is completed you can select your backup or treat the device as a new device.

Here’s another important note (which Windows users should pay particular attention to; also, this is something that only applies if the user chooses to look for the desired IPSW file on the Internet). Your browser may change the IPSW file into a .zip file. For example, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer does this, if used to download the firmware bundle. This doesn’t mean it’s unusable. Instead of wasting time switching web browsers, just rename the file to end in “.ipsw” and iTunes will accept it.

This worked perfect...except no need to go into DFU and restore. Can just update (using option+ click update and will roll back).

I don't know how either, but according to the Apple tech support guy, it did. Don't roll your eyes just because you don't believe me.

I roll my eyes because you spoke to an Apple support tech who deflected the blame off Apple and to the carriers and you believed him lol. At the end of the day its Apple's software and their responsibility everything has been tested and working before they roll it out. And again there is the touch ID thing, I find it hard to believe a carrier setting error caused it to stop working... but you go ahead and believe what the Apple support tech guy told you... I'm sure that was an unbiased explanation.
