How difficult would it be for Apple to send an email giving instructions on how to rollback the update? Not everyone is a techie or will know to check sites like imore.com to get instructions on going back to 8.0. 8 hours with nothing more than "we're looking into it" is not acceptible.

they could have the fix ready just nobody there to flip the switch and release a new iOS 8.0.1 or 8.0.2

its already going on 6pm at apple.

I'm not saying this weeks mess wouldn't happen under steve but definitely more heads would roll. Tim's a nice guy and as much as some hated steve, it works cause people were scared ******** of him.

Steve was an amazing product person. Cook is a numbers person. Disadvantage when deciding if/which heads should roll. Some of the heads know Apple's products inside out and backwards. Cook probably does not. Not an easy position to be in. Customers suffer as a result. It's too bad. Cook was an amazing COO. Maybe the top job is not his forte.

I'm surprised it has taken this long for a fix tome come out, nothing yet.

I'm surprised they don't have a fix out. Here's what I think is going on - any fix they release (i.e. 8.0.2) will need to apply to all iOS 8.x devices, whether they installed 8.0.1 or not.

Therefore they're not going to roll an update that just fixes 8.0.1 users, as that would not apply to the vast majority of users. Instead, they're likely trying to quickly build a release that includes all the bug fixes in 8.0.1 (HealthKit, etc.) but does not kill cellular/TouchID.

I'm sure that 1) it's taking them some time to recreate and fix the core issues (it may not be easy to identify WHY it killed cellular) and 2) they're testing the hell out of it because they can't afford another mistake.

I'm hoping something is pushed by tomorrow morning. You can make jokes about Apple closing at 5pm, but I'm quite certain they'll have people working on this all night.

Well.. I did the fix using iTunes, and it worked like a charm on my 6 & 6 +... So now I'm back to where I was at 1pm this afternoon.. Thanks Apple..

You should be able to delete it in the usage section of settings. That said, the issue mainly applied to iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, so with a 5S you are more likely going to be fine (although there's never really a guarantee with anything).

I was able to remove the file (1.1 GB) but the badge number stayed on settings icon. I rebooted my phone and still nothing :(

You didn't read my post and took it out of context. I was addressing "bending" not the update.

You're right. IMO, I think the bending issue is overblown. You don't see anyone buying a BMW, running it into a pole and complaining that the bumper wasn't perfect afterwards. :D

but to be honest, not everyone crashes a bmw during normal use, plus a bmw isn't the thinest thing on the market. Also get a full size bmw, put it in your pocket and sit down, if it bends, I'll eat an iPhone.

Everyone saying this wouldn't of happened under Steve obviously have forgotten about iOS 2.0. That was a cluster you-know-what. Servers overloaded, phones bricked.

Oh and saying Tim's not the right guy for the job...then why did Steve pick him? Why didn't he pick someone else? Or did Steve just suck at succession planning?

Yeah, with the way Apple did it this time by pulling the update it seems like that's one of the side-effects. Sounds like you'll just need to wait it out until the update is actually released again and then get it to get rid of that.

Go to notifications and turn them off for the settings app.
Don't think the Settings app appears there.

My best friend works at Samsung's Ad Agency.. And OH BOY are they working on ads... Sad day for Apple :(

At some point though these can backfire. The last internet ads that Samsung released were panned everywhere. They were cringe worthy.

Yeah, that's what I thought, which made me question this statement.

Yet it doesn't make sense. Those who updated OTA had these bugs, those who updated via iTunes did not (hence the "fix" to update via iTunes). How could the OTA update for the 6 and 6 Plus differ from the iTunes update?

Ahh, that makes sense.

The Windows phone updates used to come from the carriers, that made their own builds (htcphonehome.com had some really nice builds of windows CE, and MS "let" them do it. When I was a Microsoft Partner, I asked the MS rep about the site, and he let me know they knew about it, and used a lot of their ideas in the future builds.).

I'm not sure about now; I've been iPhone since 2009. The phone companies supported the windows phones until a new phone came out. Then it was, "unless it crashes the phone, we're done with it for this one."

I'd love to see the graph of iOS 8.0 vs. 8.01 vs. 7.x usage on web sites...

They were so proud!
