I have finally decided to stick with 8.1.2 and now have no choice to go back as Apple is no longer signing 8.1.1. I must also admit that I may have been a bit paranoid about my battery drain. I've been on 8.1.2 for the past two days and have been getting better than 11+ hours of usage time per day, although I don't have ApplePay set up as 1 member suggested may be an issue. After reading the above blog and watching my Ip6, I just may be one of those "over obsessed users" worrying about battery life too much. Thanks though to thegrants for teaching me how to restore a previous build. Time to get back to the real world for now.

Anything over 10.5 hours of usage time is very good, unless you're just listening to music. Your phone seems fine to me.

Another day, another terrible battery drain.

I've been using Safari and Messages more today compared to Twitter and Facebook.

I've had it on standby all day whilst at work. I used it for around 1hr 30 mins in total during my breaks combined.

I finish work and it's down to about 45%.

How is this even possible? Is there a rogue app? Because when i first got my iPhone 6, I would be ending up with about 70-75% battery at the end of work.

I'm taking this piece of crap back after Christmas, absolute joke that I can't make it through the day without the need to charge, despite it being light usage whilst working!

Did you ever try the settings>reset>reset all settings? That works wonders when there really is an issue going on. Does not delete your data but you do have to go through and set up your stings like you want them. Also add back any wifi networks. Also did you read the blog that was linked to above? That is very good info and totally accurate.

Appreciate the response however i've had iPhones for years and never seen such an issue with my previous purchases.

I'm just so frustrated that I can't figure out why it's draining so badly. I always turn off certain 'battery killer' functions however it does nothing. You get all these stupid tips from the 'Geniuses' at the stores who tell you nothing is wrong and it's ridiculous. They can even see whilst testing my diagnostics that the battery meter is ticking down constantly yet decide to send me on my way because I use social networking apps which are causing me to lose battery.

It's a joke that I could get the same if not better battery life on my old iPhone 5 and that had a smaller battery capacity!

Ok so is that a no? :)

Did you have a look at this guide:http://www.scottyloveless.com/blog/2014/the-ultimate-guide-to-solving-ios-battery-drain

I suggest that you read it and report back. If, that doesn't work restore your iPhone and manually add back all your data - yes I know that is a pain, if that still doesn't work take it to Apple and see if they can help you.

Sorry my friend, I have tried that various times. I've literally tried everything to try and sort the drain out.

I've minimised my social network apps usage but it just drains regardless.

The other night I went to bed with it 100%. Woke up and it was around 70%

That clearly indicates it's draining too quickly

Yeah, plug it in and let it charge a little but not up to near 90% . I noticed yesterday on iP6 I had 1 day 12 hr use, 7.5 hr use and was down to like 1%. Plugged in when went to bed and in a little while looked and it was back to 50% or so but the "this phone has been plugged in" message didn't appear. I disconnected just to see what it would do and it was like it was still going from previous charge. So apparently there is a bug in iOS 8.1.1 not reporting 100% of the time that the device was plugged in since last charge. I suspect some of these high reported screenshots could be due to that issue.

Makes sense and maybe I did, but I really can't remember plugging it in. I usually let my battery run down to under 10% then give it a full charge.

Yeah that 30% drop overnight indicates something is running constantly. Email or FB something. iOS wont use 30% overnight like that. There is definitely some app causing this or email stuck (especially if exchange email). I would restore it as new and not restore a backup and see what it does in its native state. If it still drains then there is something defective with the device and a trip to Apple may be warranted. If it doesn't, that would indicate some app you are installing is causing it,(most likely). Maybe as an alternative you can remove all social media apps and any GPS ones and such and see how it reacts. Or delete all email accts from the device and see what happens with no email. Once you pinpoint what is causing the issue you can better address it. For example if its the FB app, you can not install or use the app and use fb mobile web version instead until its fixed.

Your observation does not make what you said a fact. We don't know what you have running in the background. Its not an established fact that batteries need to settle after an update.

Spotlight probably was indexing after the update which will indeed drain the battery much faster. This might explain the bad battery life upon updating and the major improvement the next day.

I used to have really good battery life in 8.1.1, then I updated to 8.1.2 and had bad battery life as so many others here.

So earlier this week I downgraded back to 8.1.1 while Apple was still signing it. And although my battery life improved, it is not back to what it used to be. So although I doubt it, but 8.1.2 messed things up even after I went back to .1

Also how do I turned off Spotlight search? I don't use it and was wondering if the indexing might be effecting battery life.

Open Spotlight in settings and untick all the entries.
As for your other points, they mirror mine to a tee.
The funny thing is, after going back to 8.1.1 I realised how much better (aside from battery life) that my 6+ performed on 8.1.2 so I did yet another clean install and set up as a new phone. Disastrous battery life.
Another clean install later, and backing up from my old iPhone 5 iCloud backup, has rewarded me with sterling battery life once again. I'm now getting the battery life that I had out of the box with my 6+....but with 8.1.2 and better overall UI performance.

So the upshot is that 8.1.2 isn't a battery draining update, the problem lies with the install and my own experience has proven that a clean install doesn't always fix it. How random!

It took a few days for battery life to go back to normal after i downgraded to 8.1.1.

My first charge cycle after installing 8.1.2 via a DFU restore on iTunes:

How on earth do you get 10+ hours usage?!

Is it because the apps you're using don't drain much battery? I don't see many social networking apps taking up a significant amount of your usage.

Is the fact my top apps are Twitter, Snapchat etc are the reason i'm hitting 4 hours max usage on my iPhone 6?

He has the 6+ so there is some of the difference. Here is a good way to see where you are in relation to Apples specs and times. Try and use the number of hours of the particular type of usage:

iPhone 6 Spec
stdby: 250hrs
Talk: 14hrs
Internet: 10 LTE/11 wifi
Video: 11
Audio: 50

So assume the below example shows 8hr 45min standby and 30 min of use mostly all wifi, (email, text etc)

8.75/250=.035 (3.5%) used for stdby, .5/11= .045 (4.5%) used for wifi. So 100%- (3.5+4.5)= 92% should be remaining. Compare to the battery meter to see if its close. Of course this is not exact but if you use the numbers for the type of usage you will be very close to knowing where you stand compared to Apples MAX spec. (those spec numbers are their "up to x hours max spec)"

Well, 10 hours is approximately what people are getting from the 6+. I would say 7-8 hours is the norm for the iPhone 6. Of course if you have certain battery draining settings toggled, you use social media and GPS a lot, you have a constant poor signal, or you have a bad install, then you're going to see significantly less than the norm.
I used to get between 4 and 6 hours of usage time from my iPhone 5 using the same apps and same usage pattern.

Agreed. I get 7-8 hours usage from my 6 everyday like clockwork. Had issues for a few days with 8.1.2 until I figured it out. 8.2B3 has been smooth as silk for me. Phone stays nice and cool with B3 and battery life is looking great. This is a screen shot of my B3 today on my first charge. All options on except Bluetooth.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1419028284.052320.jpg

Why don't you throw away Twitter and snapchat away for a day? See what happens. Twitter is consuming your battery most, probably from ' on screen ' time. The screen consumes the most power

Nice battery life :) I wish my iPhone 5s can get back to those levels. I just restored it 3 times last night via DFU mode, I will do a battery run down today and report back.

Let me know about your results.
On my iPhone 5S I used to have 6-7 hrs of usage. Now I'm down to 4-5 hrs.
I was thinking about an aging battery (it's 11 months old) but yesterday I checked it and it is at 98% of the original value, so it's perfect.
It's something software related......

My overnight drain in aero mode is about 0-1%. With 4G and Wi-Fi on is about 5%. So clearly you have something running in background or a defective battery.
