Probably rather far from a fail, let alone an epic one. Even with Android I don't believe most phones can support "OK Google" just like that at any time.

The reason I said it's an epic fail, which it is in my entitled opinion ...is the fact that the device has to be charging in order to use a certain feature, let alone..one of the most popular features. Who knows maybe they're looking in the mindset of people that's driving. Most people charge their phones when driving and making that a requirement for this feature probably would mean less people will have their hands on their phones while driving. And can just say "Hey Siri" to do what they need...

Most if not all phones support it. It's implemented within Google Search. So when you open Google Search, you say "Ok Google" and you just start talking.

As far as the "Ok Google" always listening feature from the home screen, that is only on the Nexus 5, I believe. But I could be wrong. Nevertheless, there are several home launchers that allow you to use the feature nonetheless :)

But nevertheless, both platforms is cool with me.They both got their pros and cons. But like I previously said, I have the Gold 5s along with my iOS 8 Beta and with that' said, I'm loving the direction that Apple is going in. Now only if I can find me a nice case, I'll be 100% set :)

So basically most don't support it just from anywhere, you have to first launch something, sort of like first launching Siri that you can already do at any point (charging or not). There are some jailbreak tweaks that I believe allow you to launch on the iPhone without it needing to be plugged in. The overall point is that this kind of functionality requires a bit more than what current phones have, even on Android side (for the most part). Perhaps iPhone 6 will have something that would allow for it without any negative side-effects. An optional feature like this one isn't going to be a fail, even only some will end up using it, it doesn't take anything away...just in my opinion.

I agree...excellent point. It is a nice feature indeed and you're right, maybe some will use it and some will not use it. Heck, I have co-workers that don't use Siri and I have other co-workers that use it non-stop.

Now I found something really cool.

I got an SMS (not an iMessages) today at about 3 pm while I was at work and my iPad laying down at home. Now when I came back home my iPhone was off because the Akko was empty half an hour before I came home.
When I looked at my iPad it wasn't kconnected to my wifi but the moment it connected it showed me that SMS! My iPhone was laying next to it with no charge at all.

So this means Contnuity IS working over the Internet! Not only local.

i assume both you iPad and iPhone are on ios8?

I don't have much to contribute as far as new features that have been found etc. But nevertheless, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone that has taken the time and posted about the features of ios 8 beta that they discovered. I read through all the pages of this thread and a lot of these features I never knew about.

So thanks everyone :)

There was a lot of reporting that Messages now had a Snapchat-like self-destruct option. Doing research I could find no confirmation. Seemed like the press was confusing a space-saving 30 day auto delete and improved (vaguely Snapchat-like) video and picture Messaging.

Is there a sender imposed self-destruct in iMessages?

Funny Siri

Anyone find it comical when you say, "Hey, Siri", that she frequently just says hello back, but never lets you ask her anything? I know this will be fixed, but it's hysterical. It's like she thinks I just want to sit around saying hello to her or something. Does it occur to her that MAYBE I need something? LOL

:)

Transparent dock anyone? That's my only real gripe.

Well, that, and the fact that I cannot use certain images for backgrounds because it won't allow me to zoom out, only in.

Basically, when sending videos or the new Audio-message, they will auto-delete after 3 minutes after the 1st time you play them. This was explained as a way to save storage. Note: you have an option to keep the video/audio-message (as long as you do this before the 3 minutes after you play the message).

The 30-Day thing you are referencing are just for standard messages. So, if you have a month-long old iMessage thread that you are still carrying on, it will automatically delete the messages in that thread that are older than 30 days. But this feature of auto-delete is optional.

Don't know this has been mentioned but the FaceTime app also shows you the data used for each call on the call history part maybe this as a leafy a feature but I have just noticed it :)

After I say "Hey, Siri", my phone confirm with a sound that indicates it's listening. That's when I speak my request/inquiry. If you don't say anything after the phones sounds, she will say hello.

Have they fixed the Reminders app? When the reminders appear on the notification center but does not display the badge on the app until you restart the iphone, so there is no way to notice the reminder by looking at the home screen.

Hello there, I'm having issues trying to access the camera from the lockscreen. The camera icon isn't even visible any longer! Is this new in iOS 8 or is it a bug? Anyway to get it back and accessible?

Have they fix that delay before you can swipe on the springboard after closing an app? On iOS 7 I was always double swiping after closing an app because of the animations. I haven't tried 7.1 though so not sure if it's already fixed.

Are the BUY button and animation new? I don't listed to iTunes radio much...

Really hope they find another solution, because sticking a completely out-of-place "BUY" button there indicates they care more about keeping up their iTunes sales than interface design.

I'm thinking this has to be true because despite what people are saying I 100% do not need to have my Wifi radio on in order for it to work. I'm wondering if it's just relaying messages via your Apple ID?

There's the possibility that it just turns on the wifi radio real quick and has absolute ZERO visual indication (with airdrop you can see the wifi icon turn on in control centre if you're watching) but that seems unlikely to me

Not sure if anyone has posted this at all? When you search for directions in maps, the layout to choose between Drive, Walk, Apps looks different. Also, if you click apps, it shows up a list of apps for directions. As you can see, I also have Google Maps installed (although I never use it) and if I click 'Route', it automatically transfers the directions across to the Google Maps app. It also suggests other relevant apps that will provide me with directions.

not related, but how do you selectively blur parts of pictures?

Has anyone noticed the camera in message app changes colors (blue for iMessage and green for text)

Yes, I'm sure messages are related to the iCloud account and transferred over Internet and not directly from device to device!

Yes, it's like the "Sent" button was before on iOS 7.

Has anyone seen this? Safari had an issue loading a site and I got this pop up. It did indeed reload the page
