iOS 9.3.2 Bricking Some 9.7-inch iPad Pro Devices With 'Error 56' Message [Updated]

No reason not to wait one week before updating your iPad pro...never download updates on first launch day

I was just wondering about this. I have an iPad Pro 9.7, my first Apple device ever, using it in Japan. When connected to a third-party bluetooth keyboard (Logitech / (LogiCool) K380) with a Japanese layout, there is no layout option! (Settings - General - Keyboards) I'm stuck using the default US layout whereas many of the symbols "@, +, ;, *, etc.) are mapped to different keys. I can change to the Japanese IME, but the keyboard settings remain unchanged. It seems the setting got lost in 9.3.2. So, I've been waiting for weeks to be able to use the keyboard.

And now the update downloaded and waiting on my iPad Pro is potentially going to brick my device?! This Apple experience is not starting off very well . . .

So, to my question, if I just wait, will the downloaded update be replaced when the fix is put out? And will I be notified somehow? From what I remember, when the 9.3.2 or 9.3.1 update was causing problems with some devices, Apple fixed it pretty quickly but did not change the update numbering. So, how could you even tell which update you had waiting to install?

So as you can see realistically they have to do testing for much more than 3 iOS devices looking at that list a bug is going to slip in somewhere no matter if the hardware is new or old

I expect better of Apple; they used to be better, but probably to cut down costs and stay profitable they are compromising on QA and testing.

So a software update turns a hardware weakness into a hardware failure? It would have to be a hardware failure to not allow a DFU mode restore.

True, but believe me that's a small list compared to, for example, the hundreds of devices Microsoft has to test when they release an update for Windows; or the hundreds of devices Google has to test when they release a new Android; most of which are not even made by them.

I expect better of Apple; they used to be better, but probably to cut down costs and stay profitable they are compromising on QA and testing.

Google release vanilla android, it's then up to the manufacturers to make it work on their devices.

I wish Apple would pay more attention to quality control. Aside from the seemingly endless software errors recently, my kid's MacBook has had 2 dodgy AC adaptors, the keyboard replaced twice, a defective internal connector replaced, and now the top unit (screen).

Meanwhile, I have a PowerBook 180 that still boots.

I have the same issue with iPhone 6s, after updating to 9.3.2 i'm unable to update/restore it via iTunes (error 9, error 4013). Brick update, i hope they release some kind of a hotfix because i don't want to send my phone back to US apple shop.

Trying to restore to 9.3.1 or DFU restore doesn't work either.

Seems Quality Assurance is no longer Apple's strong suit. Apple seems to not be able to release a single iOS update to the public without the update causing problems. They need to improve their testing methods because this is ridiculous. The late Steve Jobs if he was still with Apple would have never let this sub-par level of QA go unnoticed.

I'm sure it's because there is no way to remove the latest Software Update and Apple has no fix available so it's easier to just replace the iPad Pro than to do anything else at the moment.

I spent $1000 on a new iPad Pro 9.7 for my daughter who needs something for school. I convinced her to stay away from the macbook retina and go with the iPad Pro and keyboard. I told her today to update her new iPad for security reasons. IT WAS BRICKED. She is crying! She has a big test this week and her new laptop 'replacement' is BRICKED! She said, 'I told you dad never update!' from a 13 year old. Apple...WTF?!

Too bad nasty situation. You would have gone better with an ipad air 2 for her free time, and for school a surface pro 3 which is not expensive and does not have these f** issues...and it is also a full desktop machine.

Well they sell a $40 slow, low res tablet that people buy for their kids or reading books. If you break it, no big deal, of course they sell a lot of those.
