They actually check for those most of the time?

I got a external battery confiscated because there wasn't a approval label and product information for that country. Counter terrorism measures apparently, although why a competent terrorist would use a suspicious unmarked casing is beyond me.

That depends on your companies firewall settings.
When I was with T-Mobile, the ports required for wifi calling were not open on our network firewall.
T-Mobile uses the following tcp/udp ports for wifi calling:
tcp/udp/5060, tcp/udp/5061, udp/40000-59999, udp/4500 and udp/500

So I had zero service at my office. So I pretty much had no choice but to switch back to AT&T.
I wonder if Wi-Fi calling can be tunneled through a VPN. Probably not honestly, but it would allow you to bypass some firewall restrictions if possible.

A competent terrorist surely wouldn't, but doing such things just may stop the incompetent ones. ;) Truthfully, stopping crime depends on mistakes. The best criminals are never caught.

Guys, I've just discovered a new feature by accident whilst in bed:

If you plug your headphones into your device while the device is locked, the screen will now automatically power on (displaying the clock screen with the Music icon).

That's been there since beta 1 it's just been buggy. Good to see it just working.

Sorry if this has been asked, but does wifi calling work in an area where there's no actual AT&T service? When I go to my in-law's house, it's Verizon land; no AT&T, but they obviously have internet and wifi.

Something real that beta five seem to have fixed is-- if you guys have had Apple music turned on---I do not know if you've been noticing but even if you haven't saved the songs to your phone or iPad to make available off-line your iPhone or ipad was adding and deleting songs right and left on previous betas; every time I went into the about section my phone/iPad memory was different and the amount of songs I had was different every time but after installing beta five it's what it should be two songs and they gave me all my memory back I now have 1.4 GB free instead of like 353 MB (16gb ipad air 2 and iPhone 6)

Not sure sprint calls itself "sprint wifi" and being that it's a service your phone company adds; I wouldn't think so if AT&T isn't offered anywhere in the area but I truly can't say I know for sure.

Cellular Engineers love Wi-Fi calling for all of the reasons that you stated. Some carrier bean counters and CEO's not so much. They would not like to get you in the habit of switching to Wi-Fi so they can keep the meter running at $10 per gig for everything you do. Bet you can guess who they are.
Seems like more misplaced cynicism; that doesn't seem to make any sense. Most ATT plans (that I know of) have unlimited minutes and local and long distance calling built in. They only charge/meter for >data< going across their tower, not VOX. This won't impact that. You'll still be making "phone call" using your ATT number, but the wifi provider will have to eat the back haul.

In re to ATT and other carriers, would still like to see more universally available HD voice calling. The existing requirements are still too restrictive for my tastes (e.g. To use AT&T HD Voice, both caller and receiver need an AT&T HD Voice-capable phone and must be located in an AT&T HD Voice coverage area.) Maybe Wifi calls is a step towards that.

I tried the original iOS 9 public beta and went back to 8.4 because the keycaps weren't zooming in when pressed. Has this been restored in the new beta? Thanks.

I would only enable Wi-Fi assist feature if the symbol for LTE (or 4G) would show up when the phone is not using a Wi-Fi connection. I would want to be able to know what kind of signal my phone is using to access data, since I don't have unlimited data.

More importantly, if the Wi-Fi symbol stays there and I don't realize that data is being used up, it would create a problem when my phone runs into the infamous Wi-Fi bug (that's yet to be fixed) in which you have to turn Wi-Fi on and off to fix the connection. Since the phone would assume that my Wi-Fi connection is "weak", it would defeat the purpose of the new feature as I would not know which connection (LTE or Wi-Fi) I would be using.

I just tested Wi-Fi assist and it doesn't seem to work.

I null-routed my iPad's Wifi IP at the router so it couldn't reach the internet, then tried to use a few apps. Nothing worked.

I'm not sure what the failure mode has to be for cellular to take over, but apparently "no packets getting through" isn't one of them. :(

So it seems to be only for "weak" Wi-Fi, not for "no" Wi-Fi. That is disappointing :(

Thanks for letting me know :)

you are still connected to your local area network just fine, it's just that it has no outside connection. It seems that this isn't to detect whether or not the network you connect to has an outside connection but how weak of a connection signal you have to the network you are connected to.

I don't know what you're referring to when you say keycaps. Can you expand on this?

Do people really care any more about Wallpapers? I have never used an apple wallpaper. This use to be a cool feature years ago but people just use photos of what they want not some generic wallpaper. I don't get the fascination every time Apple announces a new wallpaper. Seems resources could have been applied elsewhere.
Same to me. I use some favourite anime character photo/picture as my wallpaper. Never bother using default ones.

That was my background picture before the update from DP4 to DP5. After I changed it, it was gone.

In previous versions (at least for me), when typing on an iPhone keyboard, the letters are magnified so you can see what letter you're actually pressing. That wasn't happening in the first 9 public beta so I ended up making a lot more mistakes. Just wondering if this has been restored or not.

This is a real battery killer, my 5s is at 2% and it's only lunch. Updated this morning (about 5 hours ago).

That is an option that can be enabled or disabled based on your own preference in the settings for the keyboard.

Has anyone gotten the new transit directions feature to work on an iPhone 4S? I don't see the option in the maps application. Only options I see are: Drive, Walk, & Apps.

So, who thinks AT&T will once again try to force customers to give up their unlimited data plans by limiting Wi-Fi calling to those on their tiered data plans?

Why would AT&T make it harder for people to use wi-fi calling? Wi-fi calling means less pressure on AT&T to maintain a strong cellular tower network. It saves them money since they get to charge you for phone calls they aren't really carrying anymore.

Thanks for that - I can't see that option back in 8.4 under Settings -> Keyboard, but is it there in the 9 public beta?
