@bobby my needs for a smart phone is one that works with my life. I need a phone I can download documents from emails and I need to be able to send emails with files attached. And I need flash for blackboard vista. And my android runs really smooth.

Not as smooth as my iPhone ;)

And I'm pretty sure a JB does all that.

um, don't feel threatened sir. my Droid X with a custom kernel can do 24+ hours of battery life no problems. If i want more, I can easily switch to an extended battery. Swappable batteries. Gotta love Android for that.

I find it odd that some Apple enthusiasts do not believe that Android OS can get 24+ hours of battery life with moderate-heavy usage.

Droid X with light usage.

Droid X with heavy usage I easily get about 30 hours on extended battery.

I don't understand these qualitative claims on "battery life". Are people actually getting 24+ hours 3G voice, wifi, screen-on, useage?

The iPhone can go for about a week on standby, no recharging (bout 10% drain per 24 hrs). But in-use battery life is 6-8 hours of 3G voice, something like 14 hrs of video playback, etc.

What's the quantitative usage life of a modified Android device with extended battery.

Android phones are very complicated to use, my mum took hers back after 1 day. She has no problem using her iPad. Just one example. And iOS rules !! There's another. :D:D android can **** off. :apple::apple:

My iPhone is well polished and supported. Your droids are pooped out every week and half of them have older Android OS's that won't be updated for months and when the company's loose interest in the device 6 months later so does their support....just sayin' I like android but I can't have any of that blasphemy.

@bobby. Why should I have to jail break my phone for it to work for me. Your iphone is faster then my night phone, t-mobile optimus T however I do not think its smoother then my Nexus S

I havent posted in a while, so sorry for my take on this and similar postes.

There are a total of 4 iPhones (minus the memory and carrier variants). I seem to see a new Droid intro weekly, and many versions of the software (Gingerbread, Froyo, etc), that each carrier decided if and when each device will get the update.....at least Apple new product intro's are somewhat predictable.

Apple doesnt bloat the OS with the crud the carriers do, and I'll take that all day long.

A friend asked me the other day what phone to get...and specifically with the Android OS. My response was the very latest one, then wait a week, and pick from the 2 new ones released the next week.

I guess its a matter of taste. Im not trendy, I need a phone that works, and have access to the apps I need. iPhone does that for me.

To each his own.

Andy

Not at all but you do have to spend more than a day using it. Once you get used to it NOT being an iPhone and what the bottons do, it is easy. When i use my iPod, i tend to want to hit other buttons and have to remember where they are for iPhone too....like how to get back as it is at the top instead of the bottom on my Vibrant.
I find Windows 7 to be difficult but ive never took one home to spend time on it.

iOS will never catch up to Android.

Keep in mind Andoid is free and open source, while iOS is closed and proprietary.

I agree, Android being open source will have thousands of developers putting a lot of time into apps/features. There are so many good ideas that come from open source software and Android has helped that a lot. I personally like Apples take on things and attempting to make a stable product that is easy to use. In my Linux days I used PCLinuxOS for the same reason, they took more time with their releases but the user experience was better in my opinion. I have nothing against Android and open source software. It's just a matter of preference.

Android: An open Source Mobile OS developed by Google and the open Source Alliance.

Droid: A series of smart phones based on the android OS sold by Verizon.

In a nut shell Stop referring to android as Droids. Not every android phone is a droid.

Not as smooth as my iPhone ;)

And I'm pretty sure a JB does all that.

i got the the samsung galaxy s2 a week ago, and this thing is as smooth and even faster than my iphone 4.

the android platform is improving all the time, they have learned from it's mistakes pretty quickly and each update is 9/10 times a vast improvement, adding feature after feature.

i think in the past you could say android was slow, not smooth, not reliable, at least compared to IOS, however google each year has been improving it to the point that right now, it is as smooth and as quick as IOS.

i went to the android platform because my screen on the iphone 4 cracked, and for no real reason, then i decided i needed a little change. i got bored of the IOS ui and the lack of customisation you can do on ios.

i personally think IOS is lacking slighly, reason beings with android, if you get bored you can completely change the UI the way you want it to be, and continue changing it.

that said IOS and iphone is better than android in some ways as well, especially for the mass market and it has a WOW factor in terms of appearance.

this competition can only be WIN for us consumers which is fantastic. that said, i find it sad the "fanboy'sm" blinds people from making their choice.

its like a herd mentality which is pretty sad considering we are meant to be a superior, logical race.

you don't always have to buy apple, and if their is a superior phone, you should be able to take your fanboy glasses off and look at another product or platform with a open mind.

Very complicated?

you want to make a call? go into the book like icon, you want to go on the internet? the globe looking thingy.

you want to add music? stick in the wire thingy and simply add the music onto the music folder.

put the volume up? press the volume button etc.

in what way is it complicated? sure ios is more user friendly and simple, but android isnt complicated at all, only took me an hour to get used to it.

I highly highly doubt that. Its not programmed to be.

(unless yours is smoother than the videos I've seen)

As for your other comments, I cant explain why but this summarizes the whole Android scene better than any sentence I can write:

Yeah, cos there are no bad games for iOS right?

bro all I'm saying is that Android OS is sloppy trash and all the apps (the whole point of the device is to run apps) are crappy too. The OS is poorly designed. It has the same aesthetics as an old Palm Treo when you push the screen. Despite the screen quality or the processing power, it just plain feels like an old dull system. Period.

The Samsung Galaxy S Two does NOT change that.

The OS itself is not designed to be as smooth. It feels the way it feels because of design, not lack of power.

For example look at this video of the behavior starting at 45seconds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDNgD_yxBFY&feature=related

It just gets all retarded for no reason and doesnt respond and when it clicks it feels like a Treo.

You should at least pretend to know something about tech. Do you really blame a bad game on android. When I get a bad game on my PS3 I don't turn around and say sony can't make a game system to save their life. I blame the dev. Also Why are you judging android based on one 3rd party program.

Did you really watch the video? I saw nothing wrong with that phone. OOOH where you referring to the part where the gentleman attempted to place the widget but it did not respond, Until he pressed down on it for several seconds (pretty sure thats the way the phone works.)

Watched about 5 seconds of the video before realizing that it's a pre-release version of the phone.

Also, how does it feel bad due to lack of design? Specify what you mean by design? It's a vague term.

all the apps are crappy too.
Have you tried all the apps? Have you used an Android phone for longer than a minute? If so, you would know that there are some great app out there. They aren't all as pretty as iOS apps, but that doesn't mean they function badly.

I mean touch sensitivity.

I watched that video too and touch sensitivity was the same. Whether its Galaxy 1 or 2, pre or post release, stock or carrier, it's the same "low resolution" touch sensitivity.

Sorry.

The OS is not designed to be hyper-sensitive like that. It's as if iOS reacts at 60 FPS and Android comparatively is at like 20 FPS or something like that.

ITT: Heavy trolling on all sides, sprinkled with some reasonable posts.

Yep, this pretty much sums up this thread.

IMO I personally like iOS and Apple. I know it's stupid to be attached to a brand, but I am. I have never used an Android device, so I can't say whether they are good or bad.
But I don't like Android users telling me Apple products are crap. Because in 10ish years using them they have never failed me. I also don't like Apple users saying Android is crap because I really like having good competition in the market so that Apple constantly have to up their game. All my friends who use Android phones seem happy enough using them.
Sure Apple may copy Android and Android may copy Apple, but in the end it is the consumer who wins with more choices and better products.

/im too bored to study rant

You watched a 20 minute video and replied, all within 10 minutes? Or you watched the video before and are basing you're post off memory? I chose a comparison video to show you how they are exactly the same in terms of smoothness, and in the apps he showed, the SGS2 outperformed the iPhone in some areas. You're argument is based purely on a feeling you can't quite describe, which isn't really good enough.

@boss.king There is no way to convince him that android is not a complete peace of crap. He will always blindly say iOS is better and any other thing is less then it.
