The smart cover seems really nice, probably best for 'local' or around the house use. being able to prop it up for typing on a table or something looks cool. Some sort of clear skin for the back plus smart cover would be nice. I'd say for a lot of mobile use or travelling around having it in some sort of case (like the original apple one) would be good. Everyone has their own preference though.

I think I'd get a smart cover (seems like almost everyone would, just from the marketing of the damn thing lol).

yeah i know... i may just get one and see for myself ... i'm thinking of getting a gel skin as well ... check this out http://www.gelaskins.com they're totally cool :D

Smart covers $79.00 ... LOL.

Apple charges high prices, yes I know that but everything needs to have a limit.

The cost of manufacturing, leather, magnets, labor and ocean shipping would cost out to under $3.00 per smart cover, with Apple's volume I'd guess their cost at under $2.00 each.

$80 a bit of joke for what it is.

It's not big news though ... Apple rape's it customers with high prices on all accessories. I don't mind paying a premium price for Apple stuff but like I said everything has it's limits.

But of course people are and will continue buying it all ... need to keep consumer debt high so the rest of the rich can rape us too I guess ;)

My Future Shop already has them in stock. I'm going to order tonight online and then go to the Future Shop around 3:00pm tomorrow to see if there are any lines or not. I've been first in line for the last 3 iPhones at my Rogers Store and I only had to show up around 2 hours prior. However, I'm not sure how things will go with a 5:00pm release compared to the usual morning release.

Either way ... no big deal .... I'll get one within the next few weeks.
:D :apple:

EDIT: I called my local Future Shop and talked to the Apple Genius. He said that there will be no reservations but I am welcome to come line up first thing in the morning and spend all day there. LOL!!

This answers part of my question... Anyone knows how FS will deal with people wanting to get in line in advance ? I don't see us wandering around the store with no order in which we arrived...

Will there be any line ??

Accessories

What I'm wondering is whether or not we'll be able to go into the Apple Store to get iPad 2 accessories after launch.

Let's say I get my iPad at Best Buy, but they don't have the Smart Cover - do you think I can go to my local Apple Store and tell them I don't want to buy an iPad, but just an accessory?

Maybe someone who was at the US launch would know...

I think that shouldn't be a problem... But YMMV

I called the local authorized independent Apple dealer this morning to ask about stock availability for Friday. He asked if I was on the customer pre-order list, which surprised me. I said no, and he asked what model I was looking for. I wanted a black 64gb 3G iPad and he said that they had 2 of that model left available on their list. If everything works out, I'm hoping I'll get the call to pickup the iPad at 5pm tomorrow.

Crazy, they're doing pre-orders at their store? It's not an actual Apple retail store in London though right?

We don't have a real Apple store in London, the store is an authorized Apple reseller. They sent out an e-mail last night saying that the iPad would be for sale on Friday, but no mention of being able to reserve ahead.

most probably those that are listed are families, relatives, and friends of the employees at the store :D ...

Clearing the air.

I'm Iain from Mac Outpost London on Wharncliffe Road South.

I just created this profile to post here to clear the air.

We can now CONFIRM that we will have the iPad 2 and selected related Apple accessories onhand for sale tomorrow at 5:00pm! We'll have no idea which models and how many units until then. We expect limited quantities...

We will be closing the store at 4:30PM to set up for the release of the iPad 2 at 5:00 PM SHARP!!

Our staff has received an overwhelming amount of calls (especially today) regarding the iPad 2 to the point that it overwhelmed our phone system today!

JUST TO BE CLEAR: There are NO pre-orders available available, there are NO waiting lists.

We have even had to tell our long time clients who have spent thousands of dollars with us that we could not hold anything for them!

We invite you to line up (all day if you like)!

Just following the rules...

Oh, and to add to my earlier post, the reason we (or any other Apple Reseller) are not taking pre-orders from anyone is simply because Apple Canada gave all of the independent Apple resellers very specific instructions not to take any lists of any kind before 5PM on March 25.
In fact, to do so would be a direct violation of our contract with Apple.

We have been selling Apple for over 17 years in this town, why would we want to mess that up?:)

how long will it take apple to ship the ipad?

Currently your guess would be as good as mine. Hopefully we'll know more by early next week.

If the US Apple online store is any hint, it currently sits at a 3-4 week wait before it ships. I don't see why the canadian online store will be any different. I guess we'll all have to just wait and see!

We're just happy to have even a small quantity to offer the locals who line up tomorrow.

Just a heads up for anyone ordering online. If you use an employee store, you can save $10 to $17 on and iPad 2 or $4 to $6 on a Smart Cover.

Is this legal?

Does the fine print mean that if you are a family member of an employee at the company you are eligible?
