^I guess it all depends on whats available.. I remember same story with the iPhone 4 last year.. whether to line up or order online. And when it went on sale online the day of the launch it started with 3 week shipping. Lining up would probably be safest bet.

I'm not sure it worth something but I registered for 2 contests to win an iPad 2 16Gb Wifi and they say "A $549 value" ...

I would guess that's because they have absolutely no idea what the "value" of the iPad 2 will be, so they just quote the current price. Not malicious, but I doubt they have any information that you or I don't.

In October? Damn, you should have lined up on launch day and you would have been able to get one. It has been one of the most difficult Apple products to find after launch for several months.

I had to wait for my contract with Fido to enter its "eligibility period' for the upgrade.

And I think I will end up lining up on Saturday morning, because I doubt I will be able to take a day off at work on Friday 🙁

I'm beginning to think that my patience can handle waiting for an online order.

The whole driving to US waiting in line, not getting a unit, does not appeal to me.

I'm starting to feel the same way. I'm going to give it one last try on Thursday and then exchange all my money back to Canadian to wait for release here. From today's updates, though, it seems like the stores that are getting shipments are receiving primarily Wi-Fi and Verizon models. This gives me some hope that the GSM models are being largely diverted for the international releases.

are you guys planning to order online or line up in stores?

I think it depends on whether or not my local Mac store says they'll be getting any on launch day. It's not an official Apple store, but an independently-owned Apple-only authorized retailer and repair centre. It's actually a great little place, much more convenient than the hour-long drive to Toronto.

My girlfriend suggested that I line up there and she line up at BestBuy and we call each other to coordinate a purchase of the proper model.

She says she doesn't want one, but I give her a month until that changes...or maybe just a few hours in line, haha.

I had the original iPad but sold it before Christmas in anticipation of the new one. Now that it's almost here, I'm not sure if I should spend the 700 or so after taxes for a wifi 32gb, or just buy one off of kijiji or used ottawa for about 400. I'm planning on using it mainly for movies/pdfs/browsing, so I'm not sure if the extra speed is worth the money, and I'll never use the cameras. Decisions decisions....

I hope Apple gives us an update soon about what time they go on sale on the 25th. I know I might be in the minority, but I really hope it's a 5pm launch.
My guess is that Apple won't announce anything until next week.

march 25th

Does anyone know if futureshop will have something like best buy had on the states? the tickets thing... or like a list where you can write your name... like rogers had with the iphone 4...

No one knows right now. We won't get that sort of information until more launch details are announced, and maybe not until the day of launch.

Got mine yesterday. Very happy. But it does have one stuck pixel. I will live with it. I am still waiting for the 25th to pick up a smart case.

Will the canadian release be at 5pm as well??

Don't know if this means anything, but the most important Italian blog got a lead from somebody who prepares the Apple Store for the launch of products, and apparently he's going in on Thursday night to get the launch ready for Friday morning. I wouldn't mind, so I might actually be able to line up before work.

Edit: I mean for the Italian launch, which is also on the 25th.

Interesting to hear. I'd prefer a morning launch myself. Much rather line up very early and the sales start in the morning then being lined up all day.

So with Rogers, Bell and Telus supporting personal hotspot on iphone 4 for folks with 1G data plan and +, which model will you be buying? (assuming that you have an iphone)

Wifi or wifi + 3G?

Not interested to know about the storage or color.

I most likely will be getting the wifi version as I have the rogers 6G data plan. However I still debating to get the 3G for future proof when I travel..

Even if it goes unused, I think the 3G is a nice option to have, if anything for future proofing in case of travel or other needs.

FYI, from what I understand - Clients (like you and I) with the 6gb rogers plan will have to pay an additional 30$ per month to use Personal hotspot.

PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong. I don't have an iPhone 4 to try... Only a BB for now. I was thinking about getting the iPhone 5 for this specific reason.. So please keep me posted.

I think the question was regarding the Wifi personal hotspot functionality that iPhone users gained with iOS4.3. As far as I know, there is no additional charge to use this function.

iPad 1st Gen 16GB Wifi = $419.99 or $474.59 with HST (Ontario)
iPad 2 16GB Wifi = $549.99 or $621.49 with HST (Ontario)

Difference of $146.90 for essentially the same device.

Are less than stellar cameras and a slight speed bump really worth it?

$150 = a lot of apps + a case + walking around money.

Just sayin'.

The $30 fee is to share data from your 6GB allowance using a second sim card which you can place in an iPad 3G.

Otherwise tethering (USB, bluetooth, wifi) is possible without any additional charges if you have 1GB or more in your data plan.

This is really a personal preference, but to me the difference is worth it for thinner form factor, newer cpu/gpu, cameras. Also, new models may come at $100+tax more than first gen.
