Crap.. you lined up last friday in Buffalo and didn't get an iPad?

I lined up today––a week later––in Buffalo and there were at least 200 people behind me. They didn't have any AT&T, though, so I left. I was about 20th.

I work until 10:30PM on Thursday the 24th, but I've ditched my shift for the next day, so as soon as I'm off work the night before I'm going to go camp out. There isn't an official Apple store in my town, but we have a BestBuy, FutureShop, a university bookstore that stocks Apple products, and an independent Apple retailer. I'll have to figure out which one will be my best shot...

Today I went to Futureshop, Best Buy and Apple Store at Eaton Centre (Toronto), and they don't have any information about the iPad 2 launch. Or if they have any, they are not saying anything, yet. Still waiting then...

Hey guys, so I went to futureshop yesterday, and they told me they would have the ipads at the time they open in the morning. It has been confirmed. :D only 5 days to go!

Sweet! Which Future Shop did you go to? So, anyone camping outside then? I have an Apple Store gift card that I want to use, but I think Future Shop might be a better bet in terms of lineups. (I live in Toronto)

I'll be lining up for sure but I'm really hoping for an evening launch as opposed to a morning launch. It's much easier to leave work a couple hours early rather then come in who knows how late.

Part of me is still thinking that were going to see the release date pushed back like the iPhone 4 was. I can't remember how close to launch we were when that happened last year. I hope I'm wrong though, the anticipation is killing me.

I'm pretty sure last year the iPhone 4 launch wasn't delayed, as the first official date we were told was July 30. Though that was a later launch than iPhones in previous years.

Seems like now we're getting too close to the 25th for them to push it back. I think they would have made an announcement earlier.

Who are you kidding, we'll all be lined up on friday lol. I think Apple stores will have much bigger lines but also much safer for quantities they receive.

Are so so sure about this?
Over in the UK thread they've confirmed (as much as you can confirm without Apple saying it) a 5pm launch, with some Apple resellers already receiving signage of the 5pm launch.
So until Apple comes out and announces it differently, I tend to believe the 5pm launch now.

I'm having a hard time believing that there will be huge lines for the iPad 2 in Canada. I mean out of all my friends, I'm the only one who owns an ipad. Only one other person I know has expressed interest in getting an iPad 2. I think I'll stop by the :apple: store downtown on the 25th and see how many are there. Wonder if there will be resellers there too?

I must have had a brain fart I do remember now that they never pushed it back it was just a later launch to start with.

The iPad 1 was pushed back though wasn't it?

Honestly I don't even remember the original iPad launch dates clearly. I think they were more general at first by saying US April 3 and 5 more countries following a month later? I think the 3G iPad launch was delayed as well from the original Apr 24 date?

Well there was line in front of the Eaton Centre Apple Store almost two months after the release of the iPhone 4. Depening on supply (which already looks constrained) I wouldn't be surprised to see long lines.

Apple only announced a July release date for the iPhone 4 in Canada but gave no specifics early on. They finally settled on July 30th which means they delivered within the time frame they stated. The iPad was give a late April international launch window but no specific date. Apple then pushed it back to late May.

I'm going to drive five hours and line up at the nearest Apple store in Winnipeg. With no pre-orders and a big question mark on future production, I think the only way to be certain of getting an iPad 2 in Canada within the next couple of months is to go stand in line on release day. I also predict we will have organized resellers in lines here too. At the very least, it will be a pleasant way to spend a day off, and I will have a story to tell. Now I just have to figure out how to toughen up my bladder :D!

:| I hadn't even considered the bladder predicament.

I work at a Chapters and we share our back wall with a Futureshop. I was planning on going straight from work Thursday night at 10:30 to sit in a chair out front of Futureshop overnight.

I guess I can bring a blanket and an empty 2L bottle, haha...

heh...

But seriously, that would probably work.

well, the guy at the apple counter at futureshop confirmed that they would be having them at the time they opened and he confirmed this with his "apple people" as well as the futureshop...
hey, i'm just telling you all the info I got :D :D 5 days!

Honestly everyone, just save yourself the trouble and order it online. Trust me, you can survive a couple weeks without the device. This isn't a first gen product, it's a minor revision of one.

Wouldn't you rather have the device hand delivered to you at your home rather than have to schedule your plans around it? Look at all the hassle NYers are going through. Learn from their situation.

Trying to convince everyone to stay at home so you can pick up yours from the Apple Store without a line up? Very clever. :D

;)

But seriously, it just makes sense to me, to try and avoid the craziness. I actually don't plan on upgrading to 2. But if I was, I'd just order it from Apple and wait. Usually comes sooner than expected and it's no hassle. I guess some people just love the lines though. Hopefully resellers won't be too big of a problem.

Hiya Canadians,

This American will be hoping Apple lets you order online, so I can order a 3g iPad and have it shipped to my friend in Canada.

Sorry if I take one :(

Once you get your spot in line, you can pretty much leave for a while while, ehm, nature calls, and come back. People are usually pretty friendly, especially the ones that get there early. Last time I did that for the iPhone 4, they were fairly organized, and I was able to leave to grab a snack every once in a while.

Apple people don't even know the time yet. The guys at Future Shop and Best Buy that have the Apple shirts know as much as the people at the Apple Store. Apple has not announced the time yet - so this person saying "his Apple people" is as reliable as me guessing.

Now yes, you and him could eventually be right. But until it is officially posted by Apple.ca or in a news release from Apple, we can not confirm it.

I was just pointing out another thread that had a picture saying March 25 @ 5pm. That to me is a little better proof than some Apple guy.

Again, not trying to say he or you are wrong. I'm just going from past experience, and until it comes from Apple, we just do not know.

We will be able to order online on the 25th, the day it goes on sale. Just like in the US. However, I expect the shipping to be like when the iPhone 4 was released. It was 3-4 weeks on the day it was released. So it may be faster to order online in the US.
