Even if it goes unused, I think the 3G is a nice option to have, if anything for future proofing in case of travel or other needs.

I agree but it is a 'big' chunk of money for something that might not even be used. (lookng at $130 if I want to just to the 32G wifi = 3G model)

We used maybe 2 month on a pre-paid data plan when we bought the ipad but after that, never used it. It is just this 'stupid little part of me' that tells me I should get it for future proof.

Uhm, does it make sense to include the pricing of the iPhone 4 in this discussion? I mean, if you think about it, the iPhone 4 in the US is 199 and 299, whereas in Canada it is 159 and 269. Maybe you guys are right.

$159 happened bcuz Rogers, Bell and Telus got into a price war...

FYI, from what I understand - Clients (like you and I) with the 6gb rogers plan will have to pay an additional 30$ per month to use Personal hotspot.

PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong. I don't have an iPhone 4 to try... Only a BB for now. I was thinking about getting the iPhone 5 for this specific reason.. So please keep me posted.

Like other said, it is free if you have data plan that has more than 1G. It is the same rule as tethering.

I know.. You can put the $ towards going up one step in storage. Unless you really don't see yourself using it a lot while travelling it is pretty safe to just get wifi and tether once in a while.

For now...

Do you know something that we don't?

This is the first time I've been tempted to line up for an Apple product on launch day. I have an iPhone, but that was shipped by my cell phone provider, so I don't have any experience with launch day antics. On that day will only Apple stores have the iPads, or will places like Future Shop also have them in stock? Do they sell out quickly on launch day, in everyone's experience? I know if I don't get one early I may have to wait weeks for one, so just trying to figure out the best place to get one.

Last year the iPad was available at other stores like Best Buy and Future shop (i think?) For the first gen I think a lot of people stood back or waited as they really didn't know what type of device the iPad was going to be.

The only launch line I experienced was for the iPhone 4 at an Apple store. It was a massive amount of people and the line moved extremely slowly (mostly because most people were getting a subsidized iPhone and it required Apple employees to register or do upgrades using rogers/bell/telus systems which were slow or crashing all day).

To think in this economy there will be lines to purchase a $600 luxury item is kinda ridiculous when you think about it.

That's what they thought for the US launch as well and now there is a mass shortage of supply in the States. I lined up in Buffalo and the lines were looong. I'm here vacationing for a week and there have been no iPads to be found ANYWHERE.

I bet the same will be said in Canada for the launch - get it on launch day line up or, I expect, they will be backordered for a while.

Crap.. you lined up last friday in Buffalo and didn't get an iPad?

Future Shop via Twitter says 5pm launch on the 25th.
Take it with a grain of salt as Apple hasn't officially announced anything yet.

The iPad 2 isn't worth it. It's a great device, but not worth an upgrade. Even if you're a new buyer, the iPad 1 is a better deal. Don't succumb to iPad 2 hysteria. Get the original and then buy the iPad 3, which will no doubt represent a REVOLUTION on the iPad hardware/software, rather than just an evolution. iPad 1 to 2 is like going from a 3G to a 3GS. You want the 'iPhone 4' revolution, which will be 3.

I see your point, but I still prefer the iPad 2 for a few reason:

- Cameras: I want to use FaceTime to contact my parents back home in Switzerland, and the iPad 2 would be just perfect for that.

- Performances: except for the display, there was a really good bump in performances, and I think they are worth the extra $100 or so that I will be paying.

- Resell value: when the iPad 3 will be announced, it'll be easier to sell the iPad 2 at a higher price and partially absorb the cost of the upgrade.

- Colour: ok, I know this is not the determinant factor, but I always liked the Apple products in white (I'd have bought the white iPhone 4 if it had been available).

I want to pick up a "smart case" on the 25th. I hope that Apple wont make me line up just for a case.

No, you'll just have to wait until regular regular store hours. But who knows, by that time they could be sold out. I doubt it though.

No...I was lucky to get one at the lineup. But a hundred or so people behind me didn't!

I should have bought a few and brought them home for family...thought I could get some later in the week...boy was I wrong!

If the 3DS weren't launching just 2 days later I would line up but I don't really feel like standing in line for hours twice in the same week so I'm probably going to just order it. Man next week is going to be exciting for me XD (2 big product launches + a Japanese oral exam which I'm gonna fail)

I don't think you'll be waiting in line for a 3DS.
