u know i had issue because it's not light enough to be hold in one hand while on bed, besides it the curved back of the original iPad makes it harder to grip.

is the new iPad 2 makes it easier to grab with on hand because of the flat back? but i read somewhere, someone said the iPad 2 is slippery like an oiled eel.

It IS easier to grip, and I like that.

I guess I'm just trying to say that if holding 1.3lbs with one hand is hard for you when reading, it is REALLY easy to fix that problem. Just work out your hands and arms a little with some weights. There will come a time when we can't just make products "lighter", we may just need to spend three weeks working our muscles. It's not hard.

Congrats to the new owners. I was tempted to go down the local Apple store during lunch, but I figured best to stay away. I still plan to buy the next iPad, regardless of when it comes out.

Where's the fun in that?

I bought the new one and as v3 starts to loom on the horizon...I'll sell my current one. I bought the cheapest version, knowing that v3 is where I'll splurge. As they say, "that's what ebay is for"

I figure I'm "renting" this model for 10-12 months at a price of $240 ($499-future sales price)

Got my 64 gig wifi black in Lehigh Valley Pa tonight. My dad and I got there a tad after 2 and we were 47 and 48 in a line that grew very large after we got there. I also got the navy smart cover. I love the design but like most I'm worried about the back. I may just put a skin from best skins ever over it, unless a third party comes out with some other type of compatible back protection.

The iPad is more refined this time around and just overall very responsive.

I will say regarding the speaker I am sitting in my living room with the tv on and I have pandora going on the iPad and its at half volume which seems perfectly fine. If I crank it I will wake my sleeping wife.

The screen seems to resist finger prints better as well.

i know it's not heavy, i'm lugging 17" mbp in my incase bag from home to office everyday and i have no complaint about that.

what makes the iPad heavy is when u hold it reading while laying on bed, i mean all your back all the way on the bed just like when you are sleeping. i almost got iPad hit my head the other night when i was reading something and got sleepy.

Interesting the majority of posts relate to Colorado and weight. Don't see too many drooling over ipad2 being much better than ipad1. I thought as much. Mightn't be a worthwhile upgrade after all. I have my original on eBay with 4 days left on an auction. Will watch the treads carefully for next three days and may then pull my ipad1 from the auction

howdy for a first post! surprised i never joined any sooner...

in addition to a little headache and eye strain from trying to get used to a display not as crisp as the iphone4, i think that the ipad 2 feels flimsy... i honestly feel like i can pick it up and snap it into pieces. i'll probably pick up a folder/portfolio type of deal later on down the line just so it feels sturdier in my hands.

now that i think about it, i think the headache and eye strain is because i've been looking at this damn screen since 530PM =/

cool toy though... definitely didn't expect this.

the smart cover is pure genius. was going to settle w/ the grey poly urethane until i felt that, and then the leather... leather won hands down. i picked up a zagg invisibleshield, but was looking into what others have recommended for a screen protector. i see lots of people recommending the matte finish screen protectors for $2 on ebay. i ordered one for my iphone4 to test it out and it was horrid. i went back to invisibleshield + otterbox combo. i'm assuming invisibleshield + folder/portfolio... for the ipad... thoughts?

i've yet to try the digital AV adapter.

stylus + penultimate is awesome.

i bought garageband and realracing2HD. couldn't figure out garageband. i suck at music and can only "read* guitar tabs. realracing2HD is pretty good, and i'm not that much into games. RR2HD might have changed that though.

facetime was normal. haven't tried skype + video. they should make the front facing camera 5mp and just eliminate the rear camera. it's pointless.

also, this thing is blazing fast.

i grade it an A and would highly recommend it for "toy" usage, business, music, videos, books, ipad 1 upgrade, etc etc... this thing is funnnn

Popped me iPad cherry!

I picked up a 16gb wifi-only white unit this evening and enjoyed my first "launch day" line experience at the Palo Alto Applestore. It took about 4 hours, but I made friends with the 5 people immediately around me and it was pretty much a positive vibe throughout.

First impression is it has a snappier feel than my iPhone 4, haven't noticed any hesitations/stutters and it seems like the orientation transitions are smoother/quicker.

This is my first iPad so can't compare it to the original, but from playing with both I'd say it's a modest improvement, worth an update if it isn't a sacrifice, but not at all a game changer.

Speaking of games, I've been playing Infinity Blade, which is being hyped up a lot, and all I can say is that it looks as good as the game play is not. Very trite and uninspired. It would be nice to see controls that do something unique with the interface instead of just managing to make it function well enough to showcase the graphics. Very little story line, unimaginative gameplay, trite use of a trite thematic. Looks great though and has run flawlessly. Have to give credit for a quick production. Not going to keep your attention for very long, however.

The new speaker is about as good as the ones on my eee pc netbook, give or take, definitely sounds better than the speaker in my iPhone, but can't put up much of a fight against any small external speakers you might have lying about. Does it's job well enough.

The smart cover seems sort of gimmicky and ackward. I'm left handed and I don't like that it can only be placed on the left side with the home button at the bottom. When holding it "magazine style" with your right hand (leaving your left hand free to type/scroll) it has a loose and untidy feel to it. You notice the difference if you switch hands and this issue is not a real problem for right handed people, although even for them it has a tendency to flap about a bit. It does seem that it will cause light scratching to the case surface, but since the whole back is unprotected that will be the least of your problems; I think a full case option would suit a lot more people than this partial design.

All things considered though I'm enjoying it and I have to say apple doing a launch on Friday was very convenient. Now I never have to go to bed! (unlike those tragic Tuesday nights where work is immediately getting in the way of all your fun) ^_^

Got the Black 16gb Wifi! So excited! I was like 20th in a line of probably 150-200 in front of a best buy. They had plenty ofthe black but only 2 white shipped to them. I was going for the black but the guy in front of me wanted white and was the first to *not* get it (he settled for black).

Anyways, loving it so far. Haven't been able to play with it too much before work but I've been impressed so far. It does seem lighter, but that might be cuz it really is much easier to hold than iPad 1 (sold my 1 a week ago).

I really like the smart cover. I was debating between the black leather and gray poly, but $70 was a bit much for me so I went with gray. It feels really durable, the magnets are strong and the material is strong enough to be supportive but is flexible enough that it doesn't seem like it will wear out too quick. Now I just need an invisible shield for the back.
The screen seems to resist finger prints better as well.
Glad I wasn't the only one who noticed. I thought it might have just been my imagination. On my previous iPad the fingerprints got so annoying that I installed the powersupport anti glare so fingerprints weren't an issue anymore. So far this one seems to be doing a much better job at resisting them. Also the smart cover helps, if only a little, to clean them off.

This is my first iPad and I only played with the first iPad in the store. I have to say that I liked the first iPad and almost bought back in November but waited. I am so glad that I did. I am way more impressed with the new iPad. Now. I'm not sure I'd tell a current owner to upgrade but I am in love.

Oh man, the white iPad 2 is simply gorgeous! What do you have it propped up on?

Re: Image re-posting / quoting

Peeps,

PLEASE!!!!

When quoting a post with pictures have the courtesy of changing the [/SIZE][/B] tag to [B][SIZE="5"][img][/SIZE][/B] !!! We do not need to see the same massive pictures re-posted 3 or four times consecutively. We got to see them the first time as you did...;)

It will help discern new pictures from re-posted and keep the thread clean, and it only takes a second to do - if your already going to the effort of responding, please for everyones sake use the TIMG (it's there for that reason after all).

Thank you.:)

Get a Kindle. I read like that in bed too and love my Kindle for this reason.

I hope you are not serious. No, it will not. It has glass over it and he will not be touching it. It's sad that we have to explain something so self-evident to people.
Why do so many people on the Internet have absolutely no sense of humour?

I am not sure if its the pics posted or what but the white is awful looking.
And I have always been partial to apple white products.

2 week wait in the UK..... :(

Very jealous here - I have 2 weeks to wait 'til they are released in the UK... hopefully the huge USA demand won't dry up our supply too much!

Seriously tempted by the white ipad with the red cover (previous pics look stunning) - but it will be interesting to hear from you guys who got the white model as to how you feel about it after a week or two's use... will the look grow on you more... or will you start to secretly wish you had stuck to the familiar black?

Let me know!

[Video] NEW Apple iPad 2 first look in HD

Hey guys just wanted to share the video I made last night of the new iPad 2. From the description:

Here's a first look at the Apple iPad 2, with side by side comparison of the first iPad released in 2010. I talk about the design and features of the new model, then we see how it stacks up agains last year's model!

Standard def. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koDDWFsp9fM
HD http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koDDWFsp9fM&hd=1

Nice side by side comparison...I am that much more excited for mine to come now.

At least I can get some cadbury eggs now though.

I disagree - This is a major revision. A good one too.

New design - thinner and lighter.

New Cameras - 2 of them.

New color option

New case design - puts iPad to sleep and wakes it up - yay - no more pushing the sleep button.

New A5 chip - faster

More Ram - Faster

I think the screen looks better even thought the resolution is the same - maybe it is due to the glass being thinner - I'm sure someone here can explain.

In general apple has overhauled, refined or added to every aspect of the iPad without adding to the price. To me that is major. If they had just doubled the ram - I would consider that a minor upgrade.

Seriously - what were you hoping for? Does Apple need to have an iPad PRO version. What do you wan to do with your iPad that it cannot do with the current specs?

This is my opinion after actually using it all yesterday evening and this morning. Even if I did not know every upgrade the actual user experience is better. Just use safari for 20 minutes using multiple tabs...you will see.

This wouldve been more appropriate to just reply to an existing thread than start a new one.

Put a much better screen on it and re-design the ugly back and I'm sold.

I'll still buy one, but a screen upgrade was imminent to the time.

Great video :) I subscribed.

We have Mini eggs here in the UK too. Wonderful little things.
