iPad 2 First Impressions and Unboxing Photos

It's a good step, and it is a fairly big revision.

It is rumored/believe/almost-proved that Apple had the cameras ready to roll last year but held back for reasons of price. However, the processor and memory are a great leap with the OS.

I'm waiting for the iPad to get about twice this computing power, a load more software, some more function in hardware, iron out some kinks, and higher resolution. Then it will probably become my computer for 90% of daily use. iPad is a great computer so far. Hopefully they will make it autonomous in future.

The resolution bump is something that people were eagerly awaiting. Hope that comes in Fall '11, or next year.
 
I'm going to the Apple store at 10 today... I was planning on getting an iPad, but I'm wondering if I should wait a few more days or weeks for more user reviews to come out... Or should I just get it? I know this question is asked all the time, but I am wondering...
 
Not sounding off, I am responding to many of the pre-release comments about this being a minor upgrade to the ipad. Also - if you read the post you would see a few questions in there...so if you did not think it was worthy of it's own thread why did you respond and bump me? No need to be snide. Sometimes people like a fresh take on an old discussion so they don't have to fish through 5 pages of pre-release "guesses".

Seriously tempted by the white ipad with the red cover (previous pics look stunning) - but it will be interesting to hear from you guys who got the white model as to how you feel about it after a week or two's use... Will the look grow on you more... Or will you start to secretly wish you had stuck to the familiar black?

It will help discern new pictures from re-posted and keep the thread clean, and it only takes a second to do - if your already going to the effort of responding, please for everyones sake use the TIMG (it's there for that reason after all).

I decided I wanted the whole Apple Launch experience and being from Minneapolis, I decided to go to the Mall of America (instead of the many other Apple Store options) right after my flight landed from Orlando at about 3:30. I got in line at about 3:45. I was #173 when I got in line, and the line grew exponentially after I got in line- I think I heard there were some 400 people in line by the time the doors opened. I got the White 32 WiFi model (with t-mobile I get to use my free hotspot =) ) and a blue smart cover (didn't know the red was only in leather, kind of bummed).

My only point of reference is owning every model of iPhone this is my first iPad. Only every touched one once before to help a clueless lady find the Southwest wifi at 30,000'. I got the 64 Black wifi which is what I wanted with a red leather cover. Sync took forever but there was a lot of stuff to move. Then went on a seek and replace app mission. Replacing iPhone apps with iPad apps. Facebook does not have a native or universal iPad app??? Oh well the iPhone app is garbage. I'll try the friendly iPad app. Surprised they did not have the Nighwaks wallpaper from Mac OS. I resized it in aperture to 1024 and all is well. Whole lot heavier than my Kindle but it's backlit and the interface is superior. I'm happy and only waited from 3pm to 6pm at my apple store.
 
Just picked up a 32GB white one. So far, I love it. GarageBand is taking a while to load, must be a huge app. But safari is so speedy now! And the white looks amazing.

Does anyone know of any Facebook app that has chat built in?

Perhaps because it is nearly impossible for one to tell if someone is joking or really that challenged. The original poster I responded to was serious. Yeah, hard to believe, I know.
 
Got one for my wife.

Disappointments:
- Camera video quality for video conferencing looks highly pixelated
- Front Camera location only good enough for holding it in portrait mode and the smart covers only allows you to hold it in landscape mode
- The iPhone apps look terrible when trying to fill the full screen area
- Display resolution sucks ( I am spoiled with the iPhone 4 retina display), even my wife who normally doesn't care about this type of things notices that the fonts are not rendered nicely.
- Facetime cannot do 3 way video conferencing

Successes:
- All video apps
- GarageBand
- iPad HD apps
 
so glad to see the unboxing!!! :) i just ordered the white 32gb with pink smart cover last night. looks like i wont be seeing it for a few weeks though. cant wait!

All the ipad 1's on the planet are black... Black ipad 2 won't be that different. White will be though.
 
Does the glass "feel" a little different than iPad 1?

Not sure if it is in my head or not, but the glass on the iPad 2 feels just a bit different than the iPad 1. It feels a little more plastic-y as weird as that may sound. It is especially noticeable to me when I swipe. Trying to choose my words carefully, the glide does not seem as effortless as on the iPad 1. A little more friction, maybe.

Not really a complaint, but something I think I am noticing.

Anyone else notice this? I have a White iPad 2, fwiw.

If you're basing your decision on what will make you and your iPad stand out from the pack to other people, you're a poser. Just go by what looks best and is most pleasing to you.

So when we put an image in it is wrapped with



You can create a smaller version by changing it to

url of image[ /TIMG]

(no space after end [ , i needed to add one to demonstrate the code)
 
Ahh so many new iPads!
Have to wait two weeks for it to come out in the UK. (scratch that, it'll be April or May by we get them as the supply in the US looks limited - lets face it.)

Anyway, here's hoping that the iPad 3 has a retina display!
 
Got my iPad 2, yesterday evening, at the local Apple store. This is my first and the experience, thus far, is excellent. I have not used my iPhone or MBP since I got the iPad 2. It's going to be a stellar traveling companion. Gotta love it. :D
