Wait a sec normally a ipad/iphone can't use FaceTime in 3g but your saying if you use your iphone hotspot to give wifi to your ipad it thinks its on wifi and FaceTime works?

should do if the signal is strong enough, the hospot pumps out a wifi signal. Likewise you should be able to download large apps that are restricted to wifi only....these are assumptions.

I tested this with an iPhone 3GS tethered over wifi to my iPhone 4. The 3GS was downloading a 60mb video podcast without any issues.

i dont know about ipad. but
i gave my 3g connection to my wife's iphone through personal hotspot and i tried to ft someone and it did not display any warning about "please connect to wifi bla bla". my sister didn't answer my ft at that time though, i guess it will work just fine.

That's cool to know. I guess it just assumes it as any other wifi connection and facetime doesn't notice.

I got mine on Friday. Just took a snapshot while I'm at lunch.

This threat has gone quiet...

... I'm really surprised how few people are posting about how wonderful their new iPad is...

Very jealous here - I have 2 weeks to wait 'til they are released in the UK... hopefully the huge USA demand won't dry up our supply too much!

Seriously tempted by the white ipad with the red cover (previous pics look stunning) - but it will be interesting to hear from you guys who got the white model as to how you feel about it after a week or two's use... will the look grow on you more... or will you start to secretly wish you had stuck to the familiar black?

Let me know!

i just bought a 64gb on ebay for the same price as it will be in the UK when launched - might remove the wait and the nervousness around stock levels?...

ya all lucky bastards whining babies! :D Indonesia just got the original iPad 3 months ago. even there are a lot of people still don't have a clue about the new iPad 2 and still buying up the original iPad at the Apple reseller stores here.

i had to pay $800 for the base iPad 2 with 16GB, and it's still not even arriving until the next 2 weeks.

it sucks to live in the 3rd world country.

What? Black cars are impossible to keep clean! White does not show as much as a black car. Very funny comments here.

All cars get dirty no matter what color they are. Black just tends to show the dirt more than some other colors. A dirty car is just that, a dirty car.
Have a black vehicle that stays clean all of the time, same effort expended when I had other colors :)
I just like keeping my vehicles clean, inside and out ;)

I ordered the 32gb black wifi. Already have the same configuration with current iPad, personal preference.

Of course it works. It doesn't "think" it's on Wifi. It actually is on Wifi. So the iPhone hotspot to the iPad allows you to do Facetime anywhere as well as other apps that allow Wifi only.

Just got mine. Pretty impressed with the way it feels compared to the original. I can also definitely feel the difference in speed. Web browsing is just so much smoother on this. Nt just because of the faster CPU, but also because of the ram.

Mine had just arrived this morning. Deeply impressed, since it still has Apple's SIM Card in it...! Hahaha... and I had to pay US$1050 for it.

Put a much better screen on it and re-design the ugly back and I'm sold.

I'll still buy one, but a screen upgrade was imminent to the time.
Looking at the iPad 2 from the back, does look kind of ugly I must say. Also, Apple seems to stick with screens for years. Must be a big deal to upgrade them. You would have thought a complete redesign of the iPad would have included a better screen. They must be satisfied with it I suppose.

First Impressions of an iPad 2

I received my 32Gb, white, wifi iPad 2 yesterday in the mail from Apple.com. Here are my initial impressions after 24 hours of ownership:

1. Beautiful design
2. The white color looks great just sitting there or playing a movie. Not sure what all the complaints are about. Silly, actually.
3. the weight is surprising to me: with the cover I bought from Apple it is, at least, as heavy as an iPad 1. Holding it for prolong periods of time requires some getting used to.
4. Wifi: I have had no thru-put issues either connected to my home wifi or tethered to my jailbroken iPhone 4 via MyWi.
5. Light leaks: none.
6. Dead pixels: none that I can see.
7. Yellow spots on glass due to uncured glue: none.
8. Speed: Faster that the iPad 1's I played with but overall speed is linked to the wifi connection. I have had streaming video come through with no issues.
9. Sound: much improved over the iPad 1 but why no stereo speakers on a device like this?
10. The Apple folding cover: nice and works as advertised. It adds back that weight loss that Apple bragged about at the launch announcement.

Overall, a very very nice device. I will use it daily when I am away from my laptop and when I travel.
