Every iPhone and the original iPad launch has been hugely anticipated and always follows hundreds of posts from people disappointed because they didn't queue early enough.

Regarding the London stores, the above is wrong. Exactly the opposite has been true at every launch.

If you were at a flagship London store within an hour of launch, you had no problem getting what you want.

I know because, other than the launch for the 3GS, I was there.

I am in the same boat my order went through at 1.10
Got web order no with 1 click No email this morning.

Should we be worried

+1
I'm pinning my hopes on the screen that came up as my order went through
"Thank you for your 1-Click order. You don't need to do anything else - it was that easy."

So, I'm assuming I really don't need to do anything else. I have an order number, just no email. I thought about ringing up to check about my email confirmation but I suspect they're a bit busy at the moment ;-) and as the screen says, I don't have to do anything else (apart from wait!)

But what I want to know is how many who were queuing for the iPhone 4 on launch day walked away empty handed - I haven't heard too many stories of this.

For iPhone 4 with the Belfast store (only Apple store in Ireland) I arrived around 10am and queued for 4 hours. In fact they still had stock the next morning when I went back to buy a case- albeit with people queuing once again.

Queuing early definitely gives you peace of mind but I'll be interested to hear tonight how many people joined the queues mid-afternoon and were turned away for lack of stock - I'm not saying it won't happen but I want to be a bit more knowledgeable for the next launch.
An obviously every store is different in terms of supply and demand - but would be good to get a general idea of how people have missed out.

The difference is that Apple Stores get constant deliveries of their stock.. so if they sell out on monday the likelyhood that they will have more stock on tuesday is quite high... an apple store employee told me about this when i was buying a macbook a few years back, its their way of keeping stock ticking over.

There is enough evidence from previous device launches for you to make an educated decision here too, i would say if you want to get one today start queueing early... afterall, the ipad isnt assigned to a contract as the iphones were/are, so there must be more interest in buying them... i know that contracts for the iphone are a major stopping point when considering a purchase on launch day because one needs to be in the correct position to buy the phone and sign up to a contract.

The ipad does have a contract but also sells the wifi version thus increasing interest by those who simply cannot afford and iphone and its contract.

Going to try at the local branch over the weekend, if there's no stock at least it'll be a nice shopping trip and meal with my girlfriend. I'm hopeful there will still be stock, same store had no queues and plenty of iPhone 4s later in the day on that launch day.

Currently No.2 in the que @the trafford centre apple store, Sorry I cant save a spot in the que for anyone

but my friend who's next to me (No. 3) is willing to sell his place to the highest bidder at 4:30pm (cash only) if your interested tweet him on twitter twitter.com/andyhall89

haha - how about i give you £10 to purchase one for me? i think people are allowed two?

Not everyone is going to a flaagship applestore though are they...

This forum is getting ridiculous, simply stating opinion about ones surprise that people assume they can queue so close to release and expect to be lucky gets you picked apart by the vultures... the good old macrumors forum days are dead!

Spent an hour trying to order one this morning at 1am. Couldn't order it cause the website was overloaded. Just ordered one about 10 mins ago but trying to access my orders in my account and it seems to be very slow in responding. think I'll see if i can get one the weekend if not I'll just wait

I orderd last night using one click.

Had a phone call from the bank this morning, to verify I made the order.

I also phoned Apple to see if it had processed at their end, and it had.

I asked about shipping dates, and as far as she knew they were pretty accurate.

Although she was really suprised to see my smart case is down to arrive today! :)

Thinking your implied seniority allows you to call people naive for not standing outside a shop to buy an item at 4am....is a little off.... in my opinion.

The nice thing about these forums is learning you are not the only one!

I too am awaiting the confirmation e-mail after 1-click ordering. It doesn't sound like anyone has had one, even though the order status pages have updated.

I hope I'm worrying for nothing. Ho hum. Off to work. Guess I'll have to check when I get there.

Did you get a confirmation email?

the non 1 clickers have had emails. I got mine 0059 and i placed my order at 0029. - no update on the shipping status though.. got a feeling things might change after 5pm or even from monday as people vanish for the weekend.

on the brighter side, smart cover is out for delivery so should be turning up soon... most expensive fridge magnet

Agree it makes me worry a little less :) I just keep running to my laptop
when mail comes hoping and praying :)

will you guys STOP talking about 1click??? not interested in that!
we want to know what is going on today!!!!!!!!!! :D

Where on Earth do i imply seniority??

I would be queueing with the masses if i wasn't working tonight... i ordered online as in my experience once these devices have run out of stock they tend to take a couple of weeks to get back to the stock levels where you can just walk in and buy one then and there.

Because i have gone through the very things i have posted about, like queuing late, or assuming no need to queue at all i have in the past been left empty handed for a few weeks, so offering some advice to the general thread reader who may have not gone through one of the product launches before deserves such feedback in you opinion does it?

Yes i express surprise at peoples' approach to this launch, but thats fair as i obviously was under the false impression that this forum was frequented by apple fans who had watched and taken part in apple events for years gone by.... silly me!

Agreed, I hope the same too for the shipping dates. Seems they have blank canvassed everything for dispatch being 15th. checked on the Canada forum they are the same but quicker delivery (closer).

Sadly missed my opportunity on getting fridge magnet early as, the RED ones sold out quick yesterday day time (or perhaps it was cos I used the 1 click for that). So that states 14th for ships :(

Guess I couldn't do anything with it except of course use it as fridge magnet! :)

Once I get my email of confirmation I will be happy :D

Just got off the phone to Apple. Due to the volume of orders (!) email confirmations might take up to 24hrs to come through but as long as you have an order number (W********) you're good to go. You can stop worrying as long as you've got a W-code :)

Rep was able to call up my order and confirmed it was all approved etc.

So, off to Bristol this arvo. Can't decide to go and see what the deal is at Cripps ;-)

or be really jammy and go there tomorrow on the off chance. I must say I feel better now the pressure is off (I can wait til late April if that's what it takes)

I'm 3rd in the queue at Nottingham PC World! Only 6.45 hours to go now. Good thing is we're queuing indoors but bad thing is it's HOT in here!

Wish we luck and good luck to you too

Try the US site. I did and it works find to view your order :)

Just phoned up and spoke to Apple's funny robot woman who said my order (for which I am still awaiting an confirmation email) was "in process". I was amused that they even had some fake typing noises whilst she 'looked up' my order.

Checked the store help pages, and 'in process' is defined as:

Order confirmation: Once your payment has been received and your order has been accepted by Apple, you will receive an order confirmation email with the details of your order and estimated availability and delivery dates. If you have not received this email 5 business days after making your payment or after 24 hours in case of a credit/debit card order, please contact the Apple Store Customer Service team Please note for credit/debit card orders, we may ask you to provide additional documentation before confirming your order or your order may be declined by your bank. If this is the case, we will contact you by email.

Hmmm.... might need to ring a human...
