Every iPhone and the original iPad launch has been hugely anticipated and always follows hundreds of posts from people disappointed because they didn't queue early enough.

I preordered the original iPad to avoid queueing. On release day, I went into the Sheffield Apple store to pick up a case and walked away with an iPad for my wife as well. There was no problem getting original iPads from many places on release date without queueing.

I'm not saying that will happen this time (I don't care as I am still happy with my model), but there are lots of myths around about the original release, at least in the UK.

lovely little package arrived this morning, now just need an iPad to go with the case :D

Popped into local PC world, guy assured me he had 50 in stock, issuing ticket system at 4pm, I was there at 11 to enquire and I was the first. Hopefully walk in around 3.30 (as long as the online order is still able to cancel!)

I ordered at 12.30am. My delivery has always been for 3-4 weeks time (27th April). Has anyone else got anything earlier from the online apple store (earlier than 25th April?)

Your delivery is 3-4 weeks but your actual shipping is likely to be 2-3 (April 15th)

If anyone in Plymouth was after a white iPad 2 64gb 3G, send me a pm and you can take my reservation at a certain store.

I have my one reserved already somewhere else so don't need a back up.

I know the hedge end best buy is about a 10 minute drive from botley train station and just off the m27, but no idea on stock, and the charming woman i spoke to said they had quite a few, so could be a few of each model or a load, or anything really.

Have a mate who works opposite BB and he's keeping an eye on the queueing situation for me.

When i finish work, going to try comet, BB, argos west quay and then apple southampton, so should be able to luck out on all of them, in that order :D

thanks for the info! give us the heads up if you get the time later. :apple:

Joined Meadowhall queue 12.20 must be just over 100 in front of me! Lots of Japanese tourists too. Actually out in the car park! Thank god for a nice day, I didn't bring a coat!!!

Hype comparison...

What is the hype for iPad 2 compared to iPad 1?

I wasn't a member of this forum last year so I didn't read anything about queues or stock levels etc. I just walked into my local PC World on launch day at about 3pm and picked up an iPad.

Do people seem more hyped about this one?

hmmm, difficult to gauge really, I would say about the same as an uneducated guess. Maybe different types of people this time around, but then again lots of early adopters of ipad 1 will go for it today too, I know I will. I really like your (nick)name btw.

I know. I'm definitely going to try today. I get out of work at 5:30pm so hopefully PC World or Currys will have some left. Fingers crossed

Heh, on that one at least I know I'm safe thanks to the Barclay's fraud prevention call I got an hour ago listing my last five purchases (£479 declined to Apple, £1 approved which tallies with what happened). But yeah, definately worth checking once the system stops falling over and gibbering. Strange that Apple seem to have got their load balancing so wrong though, the store is running fine, it's when you try and connect to the back end services it all goes *splat*. Which reminds me, if anyone does want to check, try going through the US site, that all seems to be working fine and (as far as I can tell) gives pretty much the same info.

On a side note (okay, rant) I really need to go yell at Barclays. Their fraud prevention scheme is just terrible, assumes that if it sees four small transactions then a big one on-line it's dodgy and refuses the transaction. Considering I use the same card for both Apple and Steam this has a tendency to cause problems (as does my lack of an alternative card). Honestly though, who thought that was a sensible pattern to use, especially considering it was being dispatched to my home address?

Same here, I think I must have been one of the first through as I was refreshing from 12:20, and when I got the option to select, the engraving page was not available (page not found) and then I tried again and the accessories page was not available (page not found), quickly tried again, got all the way through only for my Barclaycard to be declined. I should have been prepared as this always happens with Apple to be honest for me (except low value orders). I tried a few more times with the same issue (just in case I mis-typed). By the time I went and found my other card I got the dreaded Oops messages all over the place. Gave up at 1:20.

Got an automated call from Barclays this morning, went through the motion of resetting, left it 20 minutes and tried to order again, only to be declined once more!!! Got a phone call from Barclays (human this time) and because I had recent fraudulent activity my account requires additional actions to be reset it seems! Time to start using a different card I think!

Anyhow, have held off ordering for now given the delivery dates touted on here.

To be fair to the banks though, Apple could help, they really should implement the 3D Secure payment system on their site (where Visa / Mastercard) pop up a box for you to enter your password as this would give an additional level of authentication which leads to lower decline responses from potential fraud.
