Any idea if they have any 32Gb white or black 3G? I'm up in Chesterfield, but sounding like I'd be better heading there when I escape than Meadowhall in Sheffield!
Have a day off as I had my BT Infinity installed this morning (perfect timing!) and had a snoop around Reading Town Centre - probably the largest town without an Apple store (coming in June or so), but has every other store under the sun.
Live across the road from Argos Extra and Comet - Argos said they weren't getting any stock for the next few weeks, although sounded like a "can't be bothered" bloke. Waltzed into Comet next door (which has an "Apple Shop" I never knew about), iPad 2 signs up, spoke to the guy at the counter who took my name down for a 64 GB black Wifi. Apparently, some American bloke had tried to reserve four 16 GB 3Gs half an hour earlier. He said that they had been allocated "quite a few" of the 64 GB Wifis in the delivery this afternoon.
Wandered over to John Lewis and was told that they are going to give out "raffle" tickets from 4pm, but you can pick which one you want and then get it after 5pm. Asking about stock levels I was told they have "limited stock", "less than 100". Limited stock?
At the little PC World in the Oracle they just sell from bang on 5pm and have 35 units across the range. Limited stock??
Asked at HMV, and they won't get any. Noticed iPad signs up at the Vodafone and Orage stores, so they will have some too.
I then got a burger and refrained from driving out to the retail parks, where there's probably another 200 spread across Comet, Dixons and PC World.
All in all limited stock sounds boll*cks to me. Glad I didn't camp in front of an Apple store - I'd feel a bit stupid after hearing these numbers. Unsure whether I should buy two or three and flog some on EBay or do the honorable thing and give up my reservation after I have bagged the one at JL - probably less hassle.
Seems to me that the chains have allocated stock to where they are sure they will fly out of the window - with all the IT companies here I'm sure they'll still all sell out, but probably more over the weekend than the evening.
If anyone wants my second or third spare iPad, let me know

Ok for any Londoner's out there... I am stuck in the office in central London (Chancery Lane) and can't leave until 4pm. Where shall I go? Could cycle on a Boris Bike over to Covent Garden but I suspect they will be rammed?? What about PCW and insight into availability? Went to Argos Chancery Lane at lunchtime and the guy in there looked at me as if I was mad - iPad's on launch day - no chance.... HELP!

Try going through the American store, http://store.apple.com/us That seems to be working fine and the info on my account, including the iPad order, looks like it's accurate.
well 35 is like 2 of each model, so id say that was limited. Reading was my backup plan as I'm in Newbury and our currys is meant to be getting stock but I can only get there at 6!

Yes, I'm going to come along at 4:30 when I finish work and see what the queue's like then, and then decide whether to queue or not!

Keep us updated at what's going on there! I'm gonna stick it out around city centre and hope I'll get lucky at one of the stores later on.

I seriously doubt that the "normal" retailers have many 3G models in stock, and I bet they went to the phone shops next door, so 35 units is a lot in my book - especially considering the size of that hole, they essentially only sell travel adapters at 300% markup...
