Queuing up now at Brighton, about to issue out the tickets

Good Luck. The front runners have been allocated. I'll maybe see you there.

Have a day off as I had my BT Infinity installed this morning (perfect timing!) and had a snoop around Reading Town Centre - probably the largest town without an Apple store (coming in June or so), but has every other store under the sun.

Live across the road from Argos Extra and Comet - Argos said they weren't getting any stock for the next few weeks, although sounded like a "can't be bothered" bloke. Waltzed into Comet next door (which has an "Apple Shop" I never knew about), iPad 2 signs up, spoke to the guy at the counter who took my name down for a 64 GB black Wifi. Apparently, some American bloke had tried to reserve four 16 GB 3Gs half an hour earlier. He said that they had been allocated "quite a few" of the 64 GB Wifis in the delivery this afternoon.

Wandered over to John Lewis and was told that they are going to give out "raffle" tickets from 4pm, but you can pick which one you want and then get it after 5pm. Asking about stock levels I was told they have "limited stock", "less than 100". Limited stock?

At the little PC World in the Oracle they just sell from bang on 5pm and have 35 units across the range. Limited stock??

Asked at HMV, and they won't get any. Noticed iPad signs up at the Vodafone and Orage stores, so they will have some too.

I then got a burger and refrained from driving out to the retail parks, where there's probably another 200 spread across Comet, Dixons and PC World.

All in all limited stock sounds boll*cks to me. Glad I didn't camp in front of an Apple store - I'd feel a bit stupid after hearing these numbers. Unsure whether I should buy two or three and flog some on EBay or do the honorable thing and give up my reservation after I have bagged the one at JL - probably less hassle.

Seems to me that the chains have allocated stock to where they are sure they will fly out of the window - with all the IT companies here I'm sure they'll still all sell out, but probably more over the weekend than the evening.

If anyone wants my second or third spare iPad, let me know :)

Thanks for the detailed Reading iPad 2 update. I too live in Reading and was wondering about the stock levels in the local shops, you've done a great job in scouting about and looking to see who has what.

I will see if I can get one in John Lewis, will be there by about 4ish and so feeling confident, if I dont I will buy one of your spares :)

Just looked at my online order again:

Not yet shipped
Ships: 15 Apr, 2011
Delivers: 25 Apr, 2011

Now I don't know what ships they're using, but it takes a lot longer than 10 days to get from China to the UK on a ship. These cannot be in China if shipping is only 10 days...

not mine, it still says estimated delivery 25th April. At least i know its there, so at some point i will definitely have an ipad!

only problem is, my wife's birthday is a week earlier, and i was getting her a 16gb wifi ipad which is also stuck in the same order!

thats 31 days.

Any idea if they have any 32Gb white or black 3G? I'm up in Chesterfield, but sounding like I'd be better heading there when I escape than Meadowhall in Sheffield!

as far as i know, they have about 6/7 of every model...
there's probably about 10-12 people here now, scattered all over the macs/laptops keeping busy :)

They're sent in a traditional Chinese junk (as opposed to modern chinese junk). Most of them arrive within a month or two, the others.. well, it's a small ship in a big sea, who knows?

Ah ok, you were playing with/looking at an iMac I think?

Yes, I'm going to come along at 4:30 when I finish work and see what the queue's like then, and then decide whether to queue or not!

Do you know how many 16Gb WiFis they've had in?

i reckon they'll have between 10-15 of them if that..

yes.. i'm still on the imac... gotta pass the time some way :)

Yep, best way!

Not confident I'll get one in that case! I have ordered off the Apple Store online but with the 2-3 week wait I thought I'd see if I could pick one up today and then cancel the online order.

How is the queue looking now?

glad to hear theres a good stock.. i'm just down the road from the retail park stores...

I'd like one.. just not sure i have the pennies at the moment.. but there are SO many customer electronic stores in Reading.. theres gotta be a large supply in the town... and when the apple store does arrive in June.. ;)

Regent Street Apple I'm stood at the front of the queue at the side of the block wearing aviators. There's at least 500 people in line. I will buy an iPad for someone.

At cost? Or are you being friendly and offering your secnod purchase? If so, can I have dibs? I could join you in 30 mins time...

Just called bestbuy in Hedge End (Southampton) - apparently they've got 100 in in mixed stock, and are giving tickets out that apparently will let you queue elsewhere (go play on their laptops, go shopping in the retail park etc..)

I've ordered one online, but gonna pop down there later on and see if I can get super-lucky :p

Damm!! Can't get out of work, so will have to see if my mate could grab a ticket for me.

How many are there waiting?

Brighton - Queue how long? / How much stock?

Anyone in the forum have the answer(s) to this. I am stuck in the office nearby but want to know if there is any point in coming down.
