I went to Bull Ring, Birmingham for the launch. Got there about 12:30pm. Was probably about 70th in the queue. The apple staff were handing out Krispy Kreme doughnuts and water. Some good guys standing around us, all having a chat. The staff said they'd come round to do pre orders before we all got into the store. Then a couple in front of me said that in ' Black' ( new initiative store run by DSGi group) on the high street in Birmingham they were handing out numbered tickets to people wanting to buy an iPad 2. They had like ticket number 6.
So I went over, left my bag with the guys in the queue at Bull Ring and they gave me ticket number 20 but had been told by head office to keep everyone on the premises until launch at 5pm. So I filled out a form with what I wanted to buy and how I'd pay and I went to get my bag. And in this store there were sofas to sit on, iMac's to use the Internet and a free drinks dispensing section, as many drinks as you'd like.
They handed out like 45 tickets and stopped. Then got another delivery so handed out about another 30. So by 5pm there was about 75 of us waited for iPad. They did some talks about iPad 2 on the microphone and put the keynote on a big screen so people could watch again whilst waiting. They then put some iPad 2's and smart covers out so people could have a look. Then at 5pm they proceeded to call out numbers 1-75 in two's. Moved very quickly and I was out of the store with my White iPad 16gb wifi by 5:25pm. They handled the launch very very well indeed and I'd strongly recommend them for any launch in the future.
