Interesting story!
So I got to Highcross Leicester yesterday at about 5:30. The queue still had probably 50-70 people in. I didn't care and walked to the back of the queue, when the manager turns around and tells me the queue is shut and they had sold out!
DISASTER! (Exaggeration, I don't want the Japan lecture

)
I ring up PC World, Currys, Argos, HMV, you name it. At this point I was desperate, so much I even went to the Orange store.
I asked the question 'Do you have any iPad 2s left?' I expected sarcastic laughs in return judging by the manic queue across the precinct.
In fact they said 'Here we have 2 16gb in Black.' (Obv. 3G since it's a phone network)
I wanted either 32 or 64 3G in White.
But he continued
'And in the other store which closed 10 mins ago we've got a 64 in White. We can go and get that if you'd like.'
My face must have lit up or my jaw drop or something, because he just laughed and asked one of the staff to go and fetch it.
About 45 mins later I walked out with a new iPad 2, albeit on Contract.
The iPad was £350 initially and £25 / month for for 2 years for 2gb Internet and unlimited BT Openzone. So overall that will cost £930, which is probably a crap deal, but I was desperate for the iPad
The Sim is transferrable.
By this time the queue in the Apple store had gone so I walked in and picked myself up some accessories.
Which brings me to typing this post.
From my new iPad 2.
