How sharpish?

Options for me if no pre-order are Apple Store (Bullring), Best Buy, Currys, PC World.

They had the new MBPs and MacBook Airs the same day as the Bullring store got them.

Just a heads up that there's a Nintendo 3DS tour in Covent Garden on the 3DS launch-day (that happens to coincide with the UK iPad launch) so that could swing both ways (people lining up to try / buy a 3DS might not have time, or might get an iPad 2 since they're there anyway). xD

The Apple store in my town is quite small. Was thinking about heading over to Covent Garden store for launch day. Anyone got any experiences from launch days there? How busy does it get?

No idea about any other stores but when i walked past bullring store on ipad 1 launch there was a line into the afternoon. Lucky me though, I already had mine delivered the previous day. Just hope pre-orders start, its more exciting tracking than standing in a line....like sheep.

Second that, but I've never been to an Apple launch event. I've always lived too far away from a store. Now though I think it might be fun.

Its not as exciting in the UK as it is in the US, from past experience, only stores which are close are the London stores but then again the lines there are guaranteed to be insanely long and CRAZY:eek:

Yeah, as I thought. If I get the option to pre-order for delivery on March 25th think I'll do that. If not then I'll head to the streets and try to find one somewhere. I have a wealth of Apple stores around me now :)

Thats what i plan to do, if no preorder i'll have to get someone to stand in line for me ;) If only amazon had the iPad on pre-order.

If pre-orders happen, my plan is to reserve for collection if that option is available. I would have it delivered but I don't want to risk being out at school and missing it. Or have it comes sometime the week after launch like with my Snow Leopard disc.

Well KRCS does have a coventry store and are doing in-store collection pre-orders only, so worth a shot going into the shop and asking to see if they have any pre-order slots left. :)

Preorder SL with apple? Amazon delivered on launch, gotta love amazon!

Anyone wondering if we're really going to see these things on the 25th? Sounds like they can't even keep up with US demand, and then they're dropping them in the rest of the world on the same day next week. Do wonder how this'll pan out.

I'm hopeful but lets be realistic. US store says 3-4 week delivery time. Unless Apple have a nice big warehouse full of iPads marked 'rest of the world' I'm starting to doubt it.

US availability has now slipped back to 4-5 weeks on the Apple site.

Thinking rationally, the huge (and expected) stock shortfalls stateside make it look like it may be possible for a delay over here, but then thinking logically, Apple knew demand like this would happen, therefore why would they announce iPad 2 launches across that many countries on 25th March if they knew they wouldn't be able to honour that date?

For that alone, I'm clinging on to the possibility that we'll see the launch date of 25th March still, albeit with a stock shortage (as per normal).

hmm.. the KRCS option is interesting... will call my local one at 09:30..

i wonder if the 20% deposit is refundable... just in case John Lewis start pre-orders... (as i'd rather order from them or direct from apple).. i'd want to cancel my krcs pre-order...

edt: looks like it's a 20% non-refundable deposit!! bah...

I know it's cruel to say it, but...

...I suspect the Japan launch will now be 'postponed'. That being the case I wonder if Apple will use this as an excuse/reason for backing out the launches of all other countries (claiming that the Japan launch is too linked-in to the Global launch to cancel it on it's own) - then using the extra supplies for homeland shortages.

That's business... I guess.

I am not sure Apple realised how many they'd sell. Some analysts are predicting well over the numbers of iPad 1s sold in the first month! Don't think they figured so Manu iPad 1 owners would upgrade.

still, if I have to queue I'll queue, I want one for my holiday on the 27th!

I really hope stock has been allotted for the UK/EU. The way things have gone in the US, it seems as though they are fully sold out.

Holibobs mid April, hope I can get one before that !

It makes sense they have stock allocated for the rest of the world, even if it's in small amounts.

A lot of sites have started putting that availible 25th graphic on their site after the launch in the US. I'm sure most sites needed confirmation/permission so the fact they did this is reassuring.

Exactly.

The main reason the US is probably seeing a shortage is due to stock being allocated to the EU and beyond.
