just reserved a 64gb wifi for london tomorrow on the reserve website, wanted a 32 but doesnt matter now its better to have more than less.

Me too for site frozen. Exact time showing in a window...seconds count down.. F5..F5..F5 then goes live... brief glimpse of 64GB white wifi available only, then CRASH !

Exactly how many people are trying to do this. What a carry on.

I managed to select a 16GB Wifi Black, it then asked for my apple id, the screen then froze and eventually it said my session had ended.. thought I had one there :(

I managed to get an order in (Apple store), but only after a few tries.. for anyone who understands how webservers work it would appear the KeepAlive for each connection is about 10 seconds.. if you click the right thing within that time you get an almost instant response to the next page, if you dither, you'll get a timeout and have to start over again.

All reservations gone tonight by the looks of things. Site just keeps freezing so if you got in you are lucky. Just got in now and nothing available but would assume everything went by 9:01pm anyway.

**** me this is frustrating

Got choice of times for grand arcade (whole day to choose from) so must have been several left and then the try again message!!! Grrrrrrrrrr . Never got that far again.
At least my apple order for dispatch on 15th now has changed to fast and not merge. Maybe Apple are getting the message.
Wish I hadn't been sucked into this PR game, but I just can't help it!

Wooooo Hooooo finally managed to reserve a Black 32GB WiFi to pick up tomorrow from Brighton 12.00-12.30!

Sooo pleased! Don't think my nerves could've taken much more of this :D

Still won't quite believe it till it's in my hands though!

waiting at the store

Does any1 know if i can get an ipad if i wait outside a store in the morning (say from 7am?). If so, I'm willing to do that...but dont want to get there and realise that i have to reserve one to get one from the stock...Thinking of going to the regent street store

Nightmare trying to do the reserve thing.

Got a 64 Black Wifi on reserve for late tomorrow.

Was thinking of 3G, but on a knife-edge about it. The fact they seem so hard to get hold of made me go 'sod it'.

I've done fine with my wifi iPad 1 so far. I thought hey, 3G gives you GPS and is just that little bit more convenient - at the cost of not getting wifi to the iPod Touch etc. And an extra £100. And that ugly black band.

Amirite? I've got a 3G on order for 4 weeks' time. Pick up the wifi and forget the 3G, or is 3G worth it? Persuade me whichever way you will.

I have got a reservation for a white 16gb wifi for tomorrow, but would really like a 32 white wifi, so if anybody would like to trade please let me know, I'll obviously pay the extra on the 32!

I am in London (Covent Garden / Holborn)

Quoting from Appadvice:

deciding whether you should go for the 3G version or just the Wi-Fi one. This might look like a tough choice, but there are a couple of things to consider that will make your decision simpler.

First of all, Apple is introducing with iOS 4.3 Personal Hotspot, a feature that allows you to share your iPhone’s data connection over Wi-Fi, with your iPad for example. That is, if you have an iPhone 4, you’ll still be able to simply access the web from your Wi-Fi iPad inside your country anytime. It comes with a cost in certain countries ($20/month in the US), but knowing that most operators allow you to activate the extra tethering on and off, and that the plan carries more data than an iPad monthly plan, it’s a really good deal.

So what if you don’t have an iPhone? Or can’t have the Hotspot feature? In my experience, it’s still really hard to justify the 3G iPad. As most iPad owners will tell you, you only use the 3G option a couple times over the lifespan of the device, as activating a month of data for that 2 hour train ride is often not worth it. I myself have used it only 3 times over a year, and I could have well lived without it. There are tons of apps, from the NYTimes to Instapaper that allow you to store text for offline reading, and video streaming is a no-go on 3G anyway. Email you say? If you’re a heavy e-mailer, you probably have an iPhone already, or you’ll actually be better off offline for a couple hours so you can catch up on old emails.

The only two drawbacks are that the iPad has a larger battery, and if you use it on 3G, it will last longer than your iPhone over Wi-Fi tethering. There is also the GPS, but you will not need it unless you mount your iPad into your car to use it as a navigation device. Also, one interesting aspect of the iPad 3G is that you can somewhat obtain pre-paid data plans for it around the world if you pick the GSM model. Imagine you’re going to Spain for two weeks, you could get yourself a pre-paid data plan there and have cheap internet in your beachhouse during that time. You could actually even jailbreak your iPad and share that Internet over Wi-Fi to your entire beach house. This is however complex, and you most likely can live without it.

To put it simply, you should get yourself a Wi-Fi iPad. If you happen to have an iPhone with Personal Hotspot on the side, then don’t give this another thought.

The only reason to justify the 3G is if you don’t have an iPhone or any other device that can share its data, and you’re often out of Wi-Fi coverage and absolutely need to be connected. If you’re this kind of person however, you’ll know it, otherwise go for the Wi-Fi.

Couldn't express it myself better than this!!

I wanted to write back I haven't received the ipad2 cos you still haven't shipped it you incompetant .......

Another thought, as well as just annoying those who hadn't recieved their orders (and still no tracking Grrr) is it not illlegal if like me you have not given permission for marketing emails?

Cpiro, you are right. This is exactly the thinking that made me get a wifi the first time around.

I commute every day, so I would use the 3G... but I already have a MiFi. Battery life a bit low, a bit slow to start up... but MiFis could get better.

I have wanted GPS once or twice when out of wifi range and wanting to know where I am... but all things considered, you're right, and so's AppAdvice; it's not quite worth it.

Sorry I don't agree with this and I have had both. I tethered the wifi to my jail broken iPhone with an app called mywi and it worked but drains the battery really fast and if you have O2 like myself which I am tied into the data is so slow so even using this with hotspot would be terrible.

I use 3 and there network is very fast 3mb plus most of the time and in most places I have visited
Having the 3G is just so handy as its all there working and you don't have to switch anything else on or have to worry about charging your phone etc.

I accept if you are on other networks with iPhone it may be a solution but O2 speeds are very poor up here and I think for the extra £100 the 3G is worth it if you can afford it. Remember if you go wifi and regret it, it will be costly to change but having 3G from the off even if you don't use it much always gives you the option there

Anyway just my take I'm sure most will disagree

iPad + iPhone (3-UK Tethering) = mobile internet dream.
