Well i strongly believe that what works for one does not necessarily work for another. And in this case, if you really really want or "need" a 3g then thats what you'll get without going around asking for advice. If you even have the slightest doubt then that article is all you need to make up your mind.

I myself use 3g every singe day and it saved me more than once. However the Ipad in my opinion and the use I am going to be making to it does not need 3g. i would rather go online from my Iphone or any other mobile phone with 3g and use the ipad only when really needed with tethering which honestly im never going to. Again thats ME and while i was wondering "should i be getting the 3g one or the wifi only" that article did the trick!

I ordered a custom Gelaskin for the back of my iPad 2. Paid for the UPS postage so should be here next week sometime. Came to £25 including postage from Canada. Hoping i don't have to pay Customs charges, its supposed to be for products with a value of £18 or over, well the actual value of the gelaskin is £13 so that should mean it'll be okay, I hope so.

Just noticed the iPad 2 16gb I ordered from pc world has bad light bleeding and a dead pixel :(. Anybody else have this problem?

i have a couple of tan leather smart covers going if anyone wants them? £45 each. going to stick with my original ipad now

If iPad would share its 3G connection, that'd clinch it and I'd buy a 3G.

I'm aware that that's a software change that could happen in the future - even the near future with iOS 5. But maybe it won't, and my guess is Apple will feel 'it's not that kind of device' and not extend connection sharing beyond the iPhone.

I feel a bit stung by the promise of wifi printing 'to follow in software' which hasn't materialised properly.

For me, 3G in the iPad would be a pleasing and tempting convenience at the cost of a bunch of other conveniences. It's a close call and I'll probably want GPS and kick myself one day, but I feel buyer's remorse might lie with a 3G purchase as I miss other, more regular uses of MiFi.

I concur with the iPad wifi only camp as this is best for me and this is why. I have an iPhone 4 and am on '3'. I have also been on O2 and Orange and 3 is definitely better. The coverage is better and stronger. Also tethering is included. If you have a iPhone 4 on 3 then you can try this out on any device before you buy your ipad by turning on your hotspot through settings. My iMac runs safari very well tethered to my iPhone as do other devices. If you are on O2 then there is good news as O2 have just announced inclusive tethering plans, although their 1 gig limit might be restrictive but for most this is just fine.

Still waiting for either Vodafone or 3 to get stock in-store. You can order on the 3 website now for home delivery but the delivery time is "From Friday the 5th April". Don't want to risk waiting 2 weeks for delivery as every store has been expecting delivery every day for a week now. I'm hopeful that they'll receive stock in store at some point...

shame there is no reserved site for where i am

still waiting for my apple online order

just hope it is here before the 25th of april

Question re: Apple store reserve iPad...

These "reserve" iPads seem to be coming in to Apple stores on a daily basis. Where is Apple getting these units from? They aren't arriving in big numbers so I'm presuming it isn't a boat load from China (unless they are deliberately dripping them out a few at a time). If they have stock, how come my order from the 25th has to wait until the next slow boat from China on the 15th April?

I agree. Couldn't they have put a few aside for those of us who stayed up to 1am to place our online orders?

It's rather silly that the likes of Tesco have been able to get online orders into people's hands before Apple themselves.

Surely with jailbreak and MyWi that is sorted?

My throry is that Apple retail stores have plenty of stock but they are drip feeding the stock to keep up the hype.

I used to think WiFi only was the way to go in London, but now having bought a 3G utilizing O2's PAYG option, I am really pleased with it. Yesterday I was stuck in the car waiting on a friend, no WiFi available, and whereas in the past I would have had to use my iPhone, I was able to browse through loads of stuff for £2.

Has Tesco indicated when they are expecting a new shipment?

I'm not sure if I should place an order with Curry's and hope it beats the ship date of Apple, or if I should just hold out hope of Tesco showing some available for 'immediate' shipment.

stock in apple stores

I'm curious, the stores that get some stock in - available to reserve for pickup.
Do they hold any stock back for people walking in off the street ? or is 100% of their stock reserved by people overnight ?
Also, when seem to be the best times that stock is updated? 9pm seems to be a slot according to some but every other time I look, its all unavailable. Am I wasting my timne by checking every hour?

This from the Guardian Technology Blog website yesterday:

John Lewis, .... says it will have more of the Apple gadgets in time for the weekend. As does Tesco, which encourages customers to order online.

Where is this stock suddenly appearing from ?

I have just cancelled my Apple online order, I can't believe they didn't have stock for their online customers, whereas Tesco, PC World etc. seemed to have plenty.

I went into the Bath apple store yesterday and someone who worked there said they'd be receiving some of every model today and we'll be able to reserve at 9pm last night.

Only Black 64GB wifi models were available for reserve. Popping in there at lunch so will let you know what they got.

The thing that gets me is that they have no idea how much stock they will receive, yet you are available to reserve one the night before when the delivery isn't until morning...

At a guess, they put practically all the stock up for reservation, but maybe hold a couple for reservation 'misunderstandings' or DOA units.

I'm quite sure they only update it at 9pm, which is when the site crashes with all the people trying to bag one!

PCW. All is forgiven. Mine will arrive today! And that's within the 3 to 5 day promise made. Im astonished.
