Just found this whilst on my daily search of the apple site!
Lets you know where you can find apple products, dont know if its related but the product on the page is an iPad 2 which suggest to me that the places it comes up with are the places you'll be able to find one!?

Put in that you want to buy an iPad, then all specialities then your location etc and see what it comes up with!

I went in to the Apple store in Exeter today and got some sarcastic annoying response when I asked about the iPad 2 and whether it could be reserved , time of opening etc. I was told they knew nothing and would only know at the same time as when Apple posted news on their website. What kind of crap answer is that. You can go into any non Apple store and get better info.

I thought buying from an Apple store was meant to be a pleasurable experience. I live miles from the store and needed a bit more info.

Add me to the list of people who want it to be released in the morning.

Can you imagine all the school kids and teens dradggng their parents to queue up in the afternoon? It's gonna be nightmare, especially if stock is very constrained.

I have it on good authority that Apple will be open at 7am in the shopping centre local to me. So would imagine other stores would be similar.

When the iphone 4 was released over here at what point was the pricing info announced? When did people find out when it was delayed?

I'm worried the the lack of release of any information means an unanticipated lack of stock. I've never really followed a product launch so closely before though.

Perhaps they honestly dont know?

Hmmm 7am
I can do that ;)
Get there at 6 to beat the traffic
Easy parking
Ipad by 7.30
Home in time for breakfast
Get greasy bacon stains on the screen by 8.30
simples :D

I've visited London and was led to believe that sarcastic and annoying responses from clerks was a cultural thing??

i'm torn between meadowhall and highcross in leicester... both are about 45 min drive away..

whats parking like at meadowhall? is it straight off the M1?

Yeah its right next to the M1 !
If it's an early morning launch it'll be fine but traffic can be pretty busy at about 5-7pm.

Can't wait now !!!!
This'll be my first iPad but I have a plethora of apple devices.

Maybe.

But I went into an Apple reseller who took a £100 deposit, told me to call on Wednesday or thursday to confirm my choice had arrived. So much more helpful.

Well they might be more helpful but that's probably just because they want your money.

They CERTAINLY don't know more than the Apple Store guys and indicating that they do would make them liars.

To be fair (even though I've met plenty of jerks working there) to the Apple Store staff, they really often have NO insider knowledge.

I called into my local store immediately after the last iPod nano was announced and they didn't even know it had been announced. I used one of their Macs to show them!

Although by now, as the stores are usually over-staffed on release days, you'd think that they'd be aware if they'd been asked to work next Friday or not.

The reseller is a major one, Stormfront, Plymouth. Yes they want my money but just spoke honestly saying that normally on launches they get the stock at least 24 hours before. They appreciate how far people have to travel. Also the deposit is totally refundable if you changed your mind etc

And I would have thought they would know too about their work rotas.

Well, this will be interesting :) I wonder if they will actually deliver to each store. They're right next to each other.

That'll be odd if it's true. Can't ever recall Apple Stores actually opening that early for a launch.

I was surprised, but a colleague of mine works for a retailer in the same shopping centre and any opening outside of normal hours has to go through centre management, which is where he found out from. We'll see.

Dude, they will not answer the question. Not even a reseller will tell you any more than whether they expect to have it or not. Buying from an Apple store is a great experience. Except you didn't buy anything, and you asked a question to which it's obvious NOBODY KNOWS.

The reseller may have been happy to let you reserve but they do not know if they will get stock, and how much of it. Apple stores stick to the rules.

I can't believe im still hoping for a pre-order even after being told otherwise, I do realise they're not the most clued up but still, I'd rather be optimistic :)

I'm in a position to comment on this one. No one at any Apple reseller or store knows much more than us right now. No stock numbers, no delivery dates. Anyone that says anything more is just making stuff up. Resellers are not allowed to take queries (if someone inquires, they have to point them to the Apple website) or reservations AT ALL and can lose their reseller license for doing so.

Would make more sense if the shopping centre was open at that time.

I think the Bullring opened at 7ish for the first iPad launch (and/or the iPhone 4 launch) but the Apple Store didn't open until 10.

Well if that's the case again, I'll be pretty happy.

Won't have to get up much earlier than I usually would for work!

Does Apple actually enjoy this?

Unless they are total morons, they know exactly the numbers that are coming into the country, how many each area gets and what shops are going to get what amounts of stock.

Given that they are not idiots, that means this is done deliberately.

The question is why?

So they actually want more people to be standing in line than iPads are in the store and they actively want people to walk away disappointed?

They could tell the store they will be getting say 50 iPad's next Friday and here is the combinations of models they will get.

But they don't, so they actually want customers to have to stand in line and perhaps run around different stores in the hope of finding stock?

Is this is nice way to behave to customers?

Would you accept this type of behaviour from other companies?
