i think we are the only geeks who are stressing about availability... i reckon the apple stores may sell out quicker than the resellers.. come next monday, i reckon there will still be availability from resellers..

Nice combination. I call it the Jean Paul Gaultier and it's going to be very popular in Brighton apparently.

Excellent, it's a good scent. I just like the look of the two together from pics I have seen from US. I might change my mind when I see them in hand but prob not.

snap. Surprisingly, she doesn't fancy the idea of queuing up for 5 hours :)

now if the roles were reversed and it was the latest designer handbag of shoes, I'm sure she wouldnt complain!

im still not 100% sure if I want a smart cover.. This will be my first iPad.. do the backs get scratched up easily? if so I tihnk i might hold out a month or so for some decent cases to come along!

the apple logo probably will get scratched up... not sure about the aluminium

With a combo like that, I'd be worried about what you'll be seeing in your hands...

Wouldn't count on that. Apple wants you to get it from them so they don't have to pay a middle man - plus, every person they turn away without an iPad is somebody who potentially may think twice about shopping there in future. This is a huge deal for Apple's retail division.

Red leather if I get one.. just a lot to splash out on for something that won't protect the whole iPad.

also wondering how durable over the long term the leather ones will be, all that folding over might wear it out a tad..

I'm the same. I don't really want to spend so much on a leather smart cover, but the only combo I like in the polyurethane is the white ipad/blue cover combo.

Any info on if it will be maximum of two iPads per person as per usual or if it will be restricted to 1 because of the short supply?

Need to pick one up for a mate on the day. Might ring the Apple store, now that the launch is official.

I really hope they limit it to one per person. If there is going to be a struggle to get one I want it to be as difficult for the scalpers as possible.

Don't suppose anyone knows if HMV (stores) will be stocking the smart covers from Friday? Full range?

black leather smart cover or red leather smart cover.. that's my dilemna.. this is with a black ipad 2...

what's your flava and why?

Black leather! I try to avoid buying leather but the polyurethane one's look kinda cheap because of the colour selection. The black leather will match the black iPad itself and also my iPhone and MBP. Still, the red is also tempting...

I'm a little worried about it getting the screen dirty though, if you look at the interactive demonstration the panel that rests on the surface when you use it as a stand is an inside panel so it touches the screen. Would have to be really careful not to put it on a dirty surface!

This is my feeling. Reckon the Arndale's going to be getting a few thousand at least.

I'm not sure why you guys think that

There weren't a few thousand at any of the NYC apple stores, why would we be getting a higher number of launch units than in the US?

My point of view is, if you are going to try and get one, queuing from lunch time and definitely getting one, is a much better than trying to walk up at 6, and then finding they are all gone / still a massive queue, before rushing around trying to get to every other store in the vicinity when tonnes of other people will have had the same idea.

Going on the US launches, apart from bestbuy, all the other resellers got very few units indeed, like 20 units per store maybe.

I am sticking with the 2 per person rule, it was for iPhone 4 (certainly at Voda) and the 3G/S (from O2) and most of all the original iPad was 2 per person (actually I think it was household - not sure how that was controlled at stores for cash purchases)

Likely to be a 2 per person limit as with most things...

I'm thinking of getting the grey smart cover .... bought the old apple case for iPad1 but generally hated it really .... i'm sure it was on last weeks MacBreak Weekly about folding the smart over up like a concertina and gripping that was super comfy for reading with ... sounds good enough to me.

Also thinking of getting the HDMI lead ... but also considering going :apple:TV too ... might not need both but the cable would help in boring hotels i live my life in

The UK stock levels are different to the US. Plus it's available in loads of different retailers. I have it on good authority there is no need to panic whatsoever.

I did read somewhere that PAYG data sims do work abroad but I am not 100% sure.

I am assuming that if they did work that 3 would deduct more data than in the UK as it is roaming - so although its worth 12GB here maybe when roaming it would be worth half that... just a guess that makes sense to me - I don't know that for a fact.

As I already have my white iPad 2 all I want is a leather red cover - I will order one online as soon as I can on Friday morning assuming it doesn't have the 4-5 week delay that US orders for it do!

Otherwise I am going to try and bribe my way to the front of the queue JUST to get a red cover. In return they people at the front can play with my iPad 2 and I won't even be taking their iPad by queue jumping.

Win-Win :p

Oh please don't start off the queue jumping rule crew again, as fun as that was I can't take another 3 pages of it again! ;)

Even if it is only for a cover there might be others that all want a red cover etc. etc.

first I've heard about any delays i shipping the smart covers? I tihnk your mistaken and the delay is only on the iPad itself.

plenty of comments in other threads of people having their covers shipped before the iPad.

First of all, there's no way the 5th Ave Apple Store didn't have a thousand units. It's the 5th Ave store.

Second of all, I'd rather rock up at six and be disappointed than be there at lunchtime and be one of those people on the news.
