iPad 2 UK Thread

i am thinking order online (provided my pay has gotten to my account in time) and try my luck with argos, if i get one in argos, cancel online order :)

does anyone know if the product numbers for argos will be live on friday before 5pm?

Even though it's going to mean a long wait, at least I know they'll have a decent stock and the staff know what they're talking about. Understand that not everyone has the time or a store near them but I'm making that decision.

I think I am going to order online when I wake up on Friday morning, get into work early, leave early, and go to the Bullring Apple Store for about 4pm.

Worth trying my luck, although I think that may be too late. At least one will be on its way in about a week.

Anybody think i'll have some joy with the Apple Store? Or is it the consensus that that will be too late?
 
Tell you what, how about everyone just stay at home, and don't allow Apple to manipulate the public like this, just so they can get large queues building up during all of Friday outside Apple stores in the UK solely for the intention of the media.

Must admit, yes, I'd like the new iPAd, a good one with no faults, but I don't want to be suckered in to play their silly games. :mad:
 
Well, my Comet experience was a lot better. When I went into store, the guy seemed to know what he was on about. He found the SKU and then went ahead allowed me to completely purchase the product, yes I paid £399. My friend was behind me 2 minutes later and also made the purchase. They said that these iPads would be in on Thursday evening although I couldn't have them until Friday at 5PM.

I don't have enough cash on my card to make another purchase online with Apple so I guess I'll just take my chance. I mean, I did pay my money, have an order number and a collection date.

Do you reckon I'll be safe with that? I too have done all my homework and have watched/called/talked to everyone but I'm at college all day, live in a relatively small town, and yes I would have been happy to order online at 1AM but this seemed like a better idea.
 
Thats a shame. The sku numbers are very easy to find on the system.

You should be able to order by Thursday for collection at your local store.

I asked him to call head office to see if they had a list of SKU's... so he did, and was informed that there would be no pre-orders.

Apparently, the Call Centre staff had been mis informed and also the website was incorrect (??)... and all those people who had paid a tenner deposit would not be guaranteed iPad 2's at all.

Even if I had paid the full amount, it's still not guaranteed as they didn't have a clue as to the stock levels.

So, I walked away slightly disappointed, but now I'm kind of glad... I hate shopping at places where I know more than the staff do. It's their job to know these things.. (don't want to offend any staff if you are on this thread)..

Personally, i don't think the comms is very good, and obviously there's more educated people out there who know whats what, and others who don't... it's just a farce! Comet ain't getting my money, I can tell you that. There's a PC World, 2x Currys, and Comet all within 5 min walking distance of each other!

So that was my experience... and the saga continues tomorrow ... trying to source down an iPad 2... :rolleyes:

Finally decided on my choice well kinda..

Going for a 32gb, Reason for that is £80 for 16gb over the 16gb ipad seems like a good deal to me.

Now just gotta decide on white or black, not gonna get a 3G as i cant see myself using it.

Planning to get down to Cribbs apple store about 1pm on Friday and start queuing =D

Can't wait any longer lol, Gonna be like a kid at Christmas on Thursday night, i know it's only an iPad but still!

Yea me too for the same reasons!! Hopefully if I start queuing at 1-ish I should be able to get the model I want and be out fairly soon after 5pm to go home and play with it :)

I'm off to Apple Store -Lakeside Thurrock Friday Morning and i'll see what happens. Fingers crossed white iPad 2 16GB.

All else fails Argos.

Went into a few stores in Worcester between 5:45pm and 6:30pm and here are their updates;

Comet- fairly helpful bloke didn't know anything about pre-ordering, but was able to find the above mentioned SKU on the system, as well as 3G ipad2s (no wifi versions). He said it looked like I could pre-order a 3G one... for next week! He tells me they have deliveries Mondays and Wednesdays only. As I wanted a wi-fi only, I left it at that (thinking about it, I may call in tomorrow to see if any were on the Weds delivery, but he seemed to think they wouldn't be).

Currys- nice chap told me this store (Blackpole, Worcs) would definitely not be receiving any at launch.

PC World- knew very little, and was only hopeful that the store MAY receive stock on Friday morning.

Looks like I'll be queuing at an Apple store starting around midday. Thinking of Touchwood Centre in Solihull or Cribbs Causeway in Bristol if any other forum goers want to pair up.

Have you tried AT Computers on Broad St. I phoned them earlier in the week and they didn't have any info. Will try them again in the morning.

Also tried Hereford Comet - I was doing quite well until the manager stopped the lady I was speaking too!!!

At the moment I have my name down at KRCS Merry Hill....

Good decision GOOD decision, I don't think I could trust any resellers as they never no for sure what there store will get till last minute to risky, are you going to order online as backup

The catalogue numbers exist already, I think they will put them online the night before, maybe the same time iPads go on sale in the Apple Store (01:00)

Thats what I am doing. Finish nightshift. Pick my mate up head to the apple store and bed down for a long wait.
 
Not that it matters but why have apple not sent out there notifications yet when resellers have

I think Apple normally send out their Marketing emails overnight. We should have gotten something in the morning. Thats why the iTunes always seem to be there first thing in the morning.

Bizarrely I get emails from both Apple US and Apple UK, those from Apple US come through early morning (1am-5am), whereas those from Apple UK seem to come through early afternoon (midday-3pm)!

Press 1 for reservation

Enter Store ID (0408 is my local one - doesnt matter if you dont want to reserve)

Enter catalogue ID

It will read back the details for you. It doesn't say the color though, so make 2 reservations.
 
My local John Lewis told me today that they hadn't received orders that they were expecting. Combine that with rumours of stores having pathetically low stocks, I think I may order one at 1am from Apple as well. Worse case scenario I can send it back, or even make a profit from it on ebay.

I have a feeling this thread may turn into a rabid hunt for iPads...
