Totally agree anyone who takes out an ipad contract on Orange or T-mobile in the UK is mad. 1gb a month is a joke.

I appreciate all the input, but can someone answer the question - is the only way to get an iPad 2 on Orange contract through the Orange Shop?

FWIW, where I live, Orange is the only network with 3G coverage. So, yes, 3 might offer much better deals. But If I get no coverage, what's the point?

I know I've asked this before, but maybe somebody now reads this who can give me a better answer.. is there any way to use simcards (like those 12gb/12month simcards) for the ipad abroad? I would just be so much easier than having to buy a new simcard wherever I go... maybe, by chance anybody got an idea?:)

cheers,

Fabien

Your reservation will have been canceled by KRCS as no one is allowed to reserve instore, especially at an authorised reseller like KRCS - why publish this on an open forum?

I ordered mine from the US and it arrives tomorrow - can't wait.:)

I didn't say I had a 'reservation' - I said I had my name down. They are going to call me when they know what stock they are getting!

that currys and pc world list is wrong, they are the only apple retail stores within currys/pcworld, i work at currys/pcworld and today we got an note on our system saying all about the ipad release, it will be released in the stores at 5pm and wont be sold any earlier, due to apple being apple and also on the note was the full list of all the currys and pc world stores which are getting the ipad 2 on release day, i dont have the full list here but if anyone wants to no which stores in the yorkshire area will be getting some just ask me because they are the only ones i can tell you lol, very long list you see lol. :)

That list would be great as I live in Leeds. Thanks in advance.

Whoops... just seen you've already replied.

I sort of presumed that, but I'll try anyway. I just wish Tesco stocked iPads. I remember when HALO 2 came out, wasn't supposed to be released until midnight, Tesco sold me one at half seven :) they just had HALO 2 on the shelf. Apparently by about 8 they were completely sold out!

ha nice and im pretty sure tesco sell the ipad, first gen one like, sure ive seen it in a advert somewhere...

the ones in leeds are the one at birstall, the main high street one, pcworld leeds, not sure where that one is and also the one in the white rose will be selling it from 5pm on friday.

I believe initially stock is only being allocated to stores, but online will get the offer later down the line. Orange store local to me is certainly getting stock.

the only ones i can remember that are being sold on release are ;
leeds white rose
leeds high street
pcworld leeds
leeds birstall
meadowhall
trafford centre
and i think they might have been one in hull but im not 100% sure, also i think dewsbury was on that list, if you want full confirmation just pop into your local store and they should be able to tell you if anywhere close will be stocking it, my store isnt and yet we stock the current ipad :S

thanks, could you maybe check tomorrow cause i wont be able to get to a store until friday? :)
:apple:

also i forgot to say that if any of you lucky people are flying from manchester airport anytime soon the dixons travel in manchester airport will be stocking it also :)

Sorry I didn't know that. It says you can buy an ipad online on the orange website.

Bad news fellow forum'ers

Just had another update from Mr X which I have posted as a follow up on my iPad 2 UK info blog post here but this is basically the jist of it;

Hey,
How you doing? Heard something pretty shocking today.

So, those people saying their stores are getting hundreds of units? That's what they've ordered, not what they will get.

Let people know that some stores are getting less than 10% of what they actually ordered and to queue up early to avoid disappointment.

So those stores that say they're getting 400 units? I wouldn't be surprised if they got less than 30.

Mr. X

Scary stuff, I am really going to make sure I am just in line as early as I can be, also tempted to ignore any stores offering a "pre-order" as they obviously won't be able to guarantee it in anyway

That is indeed worrying.

Thanks.

I think my question was badly worded. What I want to know is *on the high street*, is the Orange Shop the only place I can get a subsidised iPad 2 on a 2 year contract? Or can I go to, say, the Apple Store or PC World and sign up for an Orange contract one there?

im just going to do the sensible thing and order online lol, im working all day friday and saturday and busy on sunday so the only real chance i would be able to go out and get one would be wednesday, so it would be quicker to order online from apples website :)

Do you have any idea if the store in Glasgow Airport will have them?
Cheers

I presumed if they are running low on units in the US, it's unlikely that UK stores will be stocked to the ceilings. All I want is a white one, above 16g so all my stuff fits on. But where's best to go??

Part of me still says: "it's hardly changed, it's a waste of money" but I'm ignoring that feeling.

It doesn't get better

As a follow up and as an answer to the "pre-orders" stores are making Mr X also said this;

Also let people know that Apple have told everyone stocking iPad 2 that they are not to hold any iPads for anyone/reserve any.

Those who have paid a deposit/full amount essentially have themselves a gift card for when they are personally in store and they have an item they can sell them. Stores do this so they can make sure they get that persons business.

The underlying rule of the whole launch is: First come, first serve

I had to push that feeling down hard when I was boxing up my iPad to go off to it's new home!

If you have an Apple Retail store within a reasonable distance I would head there as early as possible, then any Auth Apple Reseller (like KRCS) would be my 2nd choice or if you have a PC World with an Apple "in-store booth" then that would be my 3rd option.

I would strongly recommend trying to pre-order one online at 1am too though as even if it takes a week you could spend a week travelling miles trying to get one and failing.
