As a follow up and as an answer to the "pre-orders" stores are making Mr X also said this;

Also let people know that Apple have told everyone stocking iPad 2 that they are not to hold any iPads for anyone/reserve any.

I don't think, in the UK, Apple can legally enforce this on resellers...

Don't adhere to Apple's launch rules, and you don't get stock / or future launches.

Simple really.

You're not even allowed to undercut Apple's RRP price by £1. . . hence stores discounting iPods etc by other means (i.e throwing in a free 3rd party case, or iTunes voucher).

But they can say "Do as we say, or never sell any of our stuff again".

I'm sure resellers make a lot of money from Apple, and it's not like Apple needs the money.

Edit: Looks like Soundburst beat me my less than a minute! :D

Could it not be a term within the sale contract between Apple and the re-seller. I know basically anything within-reason goes when it comes to B2B contracts.

Apple could enforce it that way I guess. I'm no lawyer.

It's not a legality issue, in the contracts between Apple and the vendor it will have T&Cs and if that vendor fails to adhere to those T&Cs then it could become a legal issue if Apple chooses to take it further for breach of contract, same as a monthly mobile phone contract and users, if you don't pay (say for 5 months+) they will cut you off and can take you to court to be sued as you are in breach of contract and would have agreed to this in the T&Cs.

Most of the time it would not get this extreme but even if it meant the vendor loosing Apple as a product line, would any of the high street stores really risk that?

i will get the full list for the pcworld/currys stores on thursday, these are going to be all the stores that will be stocking them, i cant tell you how many they are going to be stocking because i dont no.

i asked a friend at HMV in central london ( trocadero one) and he said that they won't have them in THAT store on friday.

I think Apple are more likely to stop selling to the re-seller than sue them over this kind of contract breach. It's much quicker for Apple, deters others from doing the same and hits the re-seller where it hurts.

That really is saying something about stock levels assigned as that store is quite often heaving!

Roll on tomorrow when JL@Home tell me they will have stock of 64GB White iPad 2 WiFi & 3G and will allow 12% partner discount to be used against it like last year (fingers crossed!)

also i forgot to say that if any of you lucky people are flying from manchester airport anytime soon the dixons travel in manchester airport will be stocking it also :)

Maaaaaan, I work at Manchester Airport but don't have an airside pass! I'm working on the day of release too so that's properly devastating - so close and yet so far! Should be able to get my hands on one of the limited numbers of John Lewis' stock though, thank god!

Oh dear...my plan is starting to fall down around my ears.

HMV was going to be my port of call. Not looking so good now :(

I wonder when HMV might know what (if any) stock each of their stores is going to be allocated.

apparantly no small HMV's are getting the iPad as i know the one in Newbury isn't as they told me outright today and neither is the one in chelmsford. Rumour has it the Reading one isn't either, so nearest one for me would be oxford or london.

What you reckon is an acceptable time to start queing? I mean should i get one if i start queing at say 12:30pm/1pm in Birmingham Apple Store?

Hey dude let me know what time you're getting there if you want a queue buddy cus I think I'll be heading there! PM me?

Seconded :D

I'm hoping that I won't have to do a final run around on Friday morning to find out for sure, it'll be nice to have a proper plan in mind before then.

Have you tried AT Computers on Broad St. I phoned them earlier in the week and they didn't have any info. Will try them again in the morning.

Also tried Hereford Comet - I was doing quite well until the manager stopped the lady I was speaking too!!!

At the moment I have my name down at KRCS Merry Hill....

Yeah I've put my name down on AT Comps notify list.

Also on the notification list at KRCS Merry Hill, although I'm not at all confident that a) they'll bother to call when they know stock levels, and b)They'll have enough stock anyway.

For those reasons I think I'm in the boat of ordering first thing once online sales open and going down to an Apple store within max 60 miles to queue, starting at around mid-day... if I can bring myself to go that early.

Is there some sort of list available detailing the largest down to smallest HMV stores?

I'm getting more and more convinced that my HMV is too small to be allocated any on Friday.

If only the Flagship PC World stores are getting any (and I read that was only 3 stores in Scotland ), then I am now becoming less and less hopeful that anything more than a couple of HMV stores in Scotland will be getting any.

When we get them home on friday evening can we activate thru iTunes using the same apple ID that we use for the iPhone 4 ?
