Call be a negative nancy if you like, but I can't help but feeling, for people who have owned the iPad1 for the past year, with this giant build up, there is going to be a "is that it?" moment for some,

After the initial unboxing, syncing, and a quick look around, a few swipes on the screen, noting it's a bit snappier. When people realise it's exactly the same as the old model.

It's not as if it's anything new or different.

Heh. Yes, I feel this. It won't be some big revelation; this is why I'm reluctant to queue or jump through hoops to get one, though I'd like just to be able to pick one up this weekend, since I use my iPad all the time.

I think what you will get is a lot of quiet, satisfied smiles that things are just a little neater, cleaner, slicker, easier, etc.

Anyone here planning on going to Nottingham or Leicester?

I might drop by the Leicester store one on Sat or Sun on the off chance they have any in, can't be doing with all this queuing and waiting to 5pm. If they've run out I'll just wait until they are more readily available.

For me the is going to be my first iPad so I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised. I held off getting the first generation iPad since November so it's a pain to think I could have to wait another 4-5 weeks after launch because of demand. Im going to be ordering online a 1am and then wander around town when I finish work at 3:30pm to see if I can be lucky and nab one on launch day.

Same for me, first iPad and deliberately held off with v1 - admittedly I was hoping for more with v2 but it will be enough to make it worthwhile.

Yeah I've put my name down on AT Comps notify list.

Also on the notification list at KRCS Merry Hill, although I'm not at all confident that a) they'll bother to call when they know stock levels, and b)They'll have enough stock anyway.

For those reasons I think I'm in the boat of ordering first thing once online sales open and going down to an Apple store within max 60 miles to queue, starting at around mid-day... if I can bring myself to go that early.

Now the launch isn't until 5pm I've got no chance of queuing! So think I will have order online too :(

Although when I spoke to KRCS they did seem confident that they would have quite a bit of stock?!?!?

Does anyone think we'll be able to order online from some where like Amazon and have it the next day? - like you can with other products.....

Stormfront

So I went into stormfront in Wimbledon and they had pre-orders for their entire stock on the 25th and there would be none for people without reservations for 3-4 weeks! Apple store it is for me then!

What are we all doing about queuing on Friday?

I'm going to PC World J9 (Birmingham), as I have £530 in vouchers (I got a 10% partner discount) but am lost on what time to arrive.

Last year I arrived at 6am for an 8am opening.

I don't really get where you're coming from; the hardware has had a dramatic overhaul, the software is exactly the same.

However, there's no denying that iPad 2 owners will be in a better position to get maximum benefit from iOS 5.

I'm already faster than my iPad on iOS 4.3. It's always playing catch-up. That makes iPad 2 a worthy upgrade IMHO.

AND iOS5 will make the iPad 2 even better :)

I sold my ipad 2 weeks ago, and i've had serious withdrawal symptoms... if someone put an ipad 1 in my hands right now i'd probably be happy as larry

Have to go to Mammas and Pappas at J9 in the morning with the Mrs so will check out the queue situation at PC World then and decide what time to join. Will also ask in store how much stock they have. No way am I queueing any earlier than lunch time.

i might be happier than larry :p

All this assumes Larry isn't a manic depressive as he broke his orginal iPad and can't afford an iPad 2! :D

I can see where your coming from, however I felt the first gen was underpowered from the start and I can see it running even slower after iOS 5 update comes out due to the ram and processor. The new iPad might just feel a bit snappier now but once the software is updated for the dual core processor everything should feel quite a bit slower with much less system slow downs. They didn't just put a slightly higher clocked cpu in there but using the same architecture as the previous generation, they are using different architecture that is 25% faster at the same clock speed plus adding another core :) and thats not even talking about the faster ram or much faster gpu. personally I could see myself being content with it for a few years where with the first gen I couldn't see that as i felt they played it a lil safe with the specs, nothing wrong with that as it was the first gen tho...

I'm gonna roll up to the Bull Ring about 12:30pm/1.00pm. Surely that will be early enough to get a iPad 2. I was going to order online at 1am but i want to go to a launch at some point and i have University in the morning, 9-12. Then i'm going straight into Birmingham to queue.

Do you think that queueing up at 2pm would still give me a good chance of getting a 32GB WiFi iPad? I'll be going to the Brighton Apple Store.

Hi - does anyone know if non Apple stores (PCWorld, Currys, Comet etc.) will be stocking Smartcovers?

I agree... a bit... I'll feel the same until I'm rocking facetime on it :D
