I can see where your coming from, however I felt the first gen was underpowered from the start and I can see it running even slower after iOS 5 update comes out due to the ram and processor. The new iPad might just feel a bit snappier now but once the software is updated for the dual core processor everything should feel quite a bit slower with much less system slow downs. They didn't just put a slightly higher clocked cpu in there but using the same architecture as the previous generation, they are using different architecture that is 25% faster at the same clock speed plus adding another core :) and thats not even talking about the faster ram or much faster gpu. personally I could see myself being content with it for a few years where with the first gen I couldn't see that as i felt they played it a lil safe with the specs, nothing wrong with that as it was the first gen tho...

A few years !
Righto !
Don't kid yourself it'll be the v6 or 7 by then ,lol.

For what it's worth, I went to Westfield yesterday and individually spoke with a few members of staff. They all told me basically the same thing:

-- 5pm Launch
-- They expect limited supplies, with most of the stock going to Covent garden and Regent Street.
-- They said the larger stores would be a better bet to be sure to get one.
-- The said they expect a line anyway, obviously.

Hope this helps!

Absolutely ... the inclusion of only 256Mb ram in iPad for a browsing device has always been painful .... constant reloading of pages plus app's not sticking in multi-tasking very long .... i'm seriously looking forward to the speed boost

I too sold my iPad1 last monday and i now realise how much i used it - i always thought i did but not having it has been a real pain

Just gotta decide on whether to switch to 32G 3G model or 64G Wifi one ..... i'm thinking i'll go for capacity as i do like to include lots of movies and HD video podcasts and always ran close to capacity

On a lighter note. Just found this ad on eBay's homepage. LOL

I'm off to Apple Store -Lakeside Thurrock Friday Morning and i'll see what happens. Fingers crossed white iPad 2 16GB.

All else fails Argos.

Let me know how you get on, I was thinking of getting one there myself but then I thought about the queuing. Might just order online after all.

Hi - does anyone know if non Apple stores (PCWorld, Currys, Comet etc.) will be stocking Smartcovers?

Hey Rossy good to see you on here. I'm afraid no one knows really, I think its just a "case" of wait and see. Unless the infamous Mr X knows something?!

I'm sure you will be ordering one online anyway....if you're desperate for accessories as you know the Apple store is going to be the best place on launch day.

BTW - this thread is proper sick. 76 pages anybody...

North East user here, Metro or Eldon, but I'm at work on Fri till 7:30pm (and Thurs same), so looks like queueing (which I'm not keen on anyway) is out.

I'm thinking of just online ordering if poss on Fri 1am, and be tired all day on Fri :(

I was hoping to have a look in the flesh at a white and black to chose, but now looks like I cant if I want one earlyish.

So users who have seen both in flesh what are the white like? too cheesy? nice?

I was thinking of a standard black 32Gb WiFi, with a orange smart cover, this will be my 1st iPad, I held off (reluctantly) on the 1st Gen

cheers

Guys - help! I was really up for queuing for a couple of hours (maybe from 2.30-3), but the notion of starting to queue at noon for a 5pm launch is starting to seem really excessive/unnecessary, especially for Newcastle (I'd have thought things would be a lot quieter than London)

I took the day off work for the iPad2, but that was when I thought it was a morning launch and I'd still have a day afterwards to play with it + get on with stuff. I do want one, but I'm starting to think I have better things I could be doing than standing around for ~5 hours.

Do you usually get freebies/swag for being towards the front of the queue? Other than of course, a prime choice of the configs. Is the experience of being in an Apple store product queue worth it? (last one I did was the iPhone 3G queue outside of an O2 store - which was crap aside for a surprise, unplanned appearance of Peter Beardsley... )

Has anyone contacted Three, Orange or vodafone to see if stores will have some models in stock on Friday?

Looking to get a 3G model so it's worth going with 3 to get a cheaper iPad. Just wondering if they'll have any on launch or I'll have to wait a couple of weeks.

I know have a fully typed up schedule for Friday.

Includes things like diet (dont want to be caught short in the line do we? ;)).

Planning on getting to the Cardiff strore around 10 - 10:30.

I know I've asked this before, but maybe somebody now reads this who can give me a better answer.. is there any way to use simcards (like those 12gb/12month simcards) for the ipad abroad? I would just be so much easier than having to buy a new simcard wherever I go... maybe, by chance anybody got an idea?:)

You can keep asking, but until the economics of international telecommunications change radically, you're not going to get a better answer.

The iPhone 4 UK thread was much much longer.... and the iPad 1 UK thread for that matter....

The Apple Store Trafford Center iPhone 4 queue in summer was dishing out hot drinks and Krispy Kreme donuts to the whole queue.... the entire length of it.

Hey man. Have you managed to get anyone to wait with you yet? I'll be getting there just after 12. Unfortunately, nobody I know is .. ahem.. dedicated enough to the cause to wait with me... May have to nip to subway first for sustenance.. No drinks though lol

Not yet.
Most people I know dont seem to have enougth "dedication" either :D

Just rang John Lewis where the guy confidently told me I could walk in and buy an ipad 2 at 9am on Friday.
I asked if he was sure and he said thats what all the phone operators were telling people.
I pointed out that he might want to check this - he came back to the phone massively apologising and confirmed it was 5pm with no pre-orders LOL
Someone a few pages back said that this forum probably knows more than the retailers do.
Methinks that was indeed correct

I finish work at 1pm so will be heading to the Metrocentre staight afterwards - wife offered to check out Eldon Square at midday and queue up if there are plenty of people already waiting. When I get to the Metrocentre, if I'm close enough to the start of the queue (in the first 40) I'll call her, she can go home.

that was probably me :)

and the main reason for that is that we are fanboys and girls :p

but companies SHOULD get the correct information out to their staff, otherwise there will be carnage!

They dont appear to. When ever I've been in the costa coffee opposite you can pick up a Wifi channel but its locked.

I've always assumed that its the Apple stores wifi as its called (St Davids 2) which the Apple web site calls the store that, but the centre calls itself just St Davids.

called in at HMV in leeds this morning, was told they are not going to have them for friday and that only 10 stores will be selling them.

Can only speak for the middle of those networks (colleague, works there) and they are definitely getting stock, though numbers is anyones guess until Thursday.
