Tell me!!, see my post further up, popped into PCworld near work about an hour ago to see if they will be stocking and he told me only 1 store in North East UK will be on launch:(

I'll pop in on my way home from work today and have a word.

Might be able to get some info about the South.

If I order online at 1am on Friday, and manage to buy one in store later in the day, will I be able to cancel my Apple order?

Yes as long as it hasn't been despatched but even if despatched you have a 14 day window to return it though you maybe subject to paying postage for the return.

Just for the record
I have just rang Solutions inc to see how many they are getting
they guy there said they won't know until they actually receive them on Friday
Which is a pain in the ass for them and annoying for us!

Looks like queuing at the Bullring store is the plan for me...

Finish early shift at 8.30am (presenting the Daybreak bulletins this week, 4am starts are evil :() - head home for a sleep, then queue up early afternoon.

Common sense says I should go down about 1pm, but wondering if I can leave it until at least 2pm... Argh! So much uncertainty!

At least it won't take as long to move the queue along as it did with the iPhone 4, with most taking out contracts that take ages to process.

Just a thought guys but I had a comment from a user on my blog asking about the distributer I have secured my iPad 2 with and I made a good point in my response:

Thanks Ashmanq, yes Computer 2000 is a distribution channel, we have a few suppliers where this is the case - it might be worth speaking to a small computer shop if you have one near you (an independant) as Computer 2000, Ingram Micro and some other distributers are getting stock so they may be able to buy it in for you if you are not successful or want to try this before launch day?

Just another idea as they have to take (essentially) pre-orders because they have no shop floor and wouldn't want everyone trying to phone at exactly 5pm on Friday - different rules to retail vendors too! And although the independant store would not be able to sell it to you until Saturday (because the distributer cannot get item shipped until 5pm Friday) he could order it in to arrive Sat morn like mine is!

Thats odd, our contact at C2K has said they wont even find out what they are getting until Friday and we couldn't get anything for Saturday....

I'd blocked that out from my memory - IT TOOK FOREVER. With iPads it's obviously just a case of banging cards through and away you go...

Yeh, totally. All i had in my head was the iPhone 4 launch at Trafford... took 3 hours to get to the front of the queue. This should be a LOT quicker!

Thats decided then, Trafford it is!

I really hope they get their act together on this; it should be painless no contracts to sign etc I don’t know why they don't take people's orders as the store is closed for the redress.

I know they want the queues for the press and headlines but still once the photo is taken it should move quickly; maybe have a different line for those that need help setting it up etc.

Still I hope to have my 3DS to make the wait more bearable though if its too long i will pass...it’s a Friday night after all and need to get the drinking started!

From what I remember of the iPad launch last year they went down the line and asked people what sort they wanted (as a stock check) then once you went in the accessories etc were all lined up ready for you - you paid and then off you went - 5mins max. Some people will faff and take longer, but generally it's quick and painless...

I used the link from the intouch homepage (might need to login then click the link) regarding the iPad 2 launch and it gives you the only guy that is dealing with it at C2000, I don't think your general account manager will have any info on it, mine didn't.

Yea but they're hawking the free Personal Setup service this time so if a lot of people go for that it may slow things down!

This uncertainty is killing me!

At this time, I'm torn between meadowhall, but don't really fancy the M1 southbound at rush hour afterwards!

I really want a JL, Argos or something to come through for friday, so i can collect and get the hell on with my weekend

OR, i will be in Brixton on saturday, so may have to reserver at Argos or something... but who knows the stock levels yet?

ARGHHHH

on the Iphone 4 launch i was behind a very nice but TOTALLY uninformed lady; seriously I think she saw the line and just joined; it was crazy and really annoying.

The idea of different storage sizes really threw her, just imagine if the white iphone was ready at that time as well it would have been hell...

Still sounds good for the Ipad2...i plan to hit the Regent St store about 7/7:30pm late I know but I am taking a 'what will be, will be' approach on the stock level...for now!

Might just head down to Regent street at 4 or something. Really not that keen on queuing for any more than an hour. Hopefully they'll have stock.

This 5pm launch is a disgrace though. They could have had the entire day to sell and spread it all out.

i'd tend to agree... especially as most shops close soon after!

John Lewis @ Home Response

Had a response from JL@Home, I will update again when I hear more.

Dear Mr Waddingham,

To the best of my understanding I can see no problems with you using your partner discount this Friday to purchase the new generation ipad as I do not foresee stock availability being an issue. But I will get some clarity from our buyers to see exactly what our allocation will be like and whether this will have a knock on effect on partners being able to claim discount. I will be away from the business from 2pm today until Saturday, but as soon as we get a definitive response one of my colleagues will relay the information to you.

Yours sincerely,

Isla Shivmangal

Reading this thread, it looks as if a 1am online buy might be the best thing, then head down to the Apple Store later on to queue. At least the online purchase will give you a good indication of the delivery time, though with Saturday in the way, it might not be until Monday at the earliest before the iPad 2 arrives at homes.

Stupid question I know but what's jl@home?
