Yep, I have been told that was the guy we were in touch with. Oh well - guess its a queue for me.

Oh, well we do put a lot of business there way and get on with Darren quite well but he had 9 64GB 3Gs left when I spoke earlier and they were getting other models so can only assume all of that has been allocated too. :( sorry dude.

I'm actually worrying that I won't get an iPad come friday :(

Dont worry, you will get one on Friday and if not then on Saturday and if not Sund... you get my point.. We all know all the 'fun' is in the anticipation of getting the iPad

Do what I'm going to and order it online.. then you can sit and keep updating your order status and see if it has shipped yet!.. keep that ol excitement going on a few more days!

Once people get their iPads this thread will be verrry quiet..

I've written off my chances of getting one of these on Friday. I work in Covent Garden until 5 at the earliest. Even if i do leave at 5pm, joining the queue at 5pm means I won't get one. not a chance. :(

u can't leave an hour earlier?

I ususually finish at 6pm, this is an hour earlier.

And you actually think if i turn up at 4pm i'm going to be successful?!? If so, I might do that lolz.

I think the only people that are going to get one on launch day are students or those who can justify taking a day of holiday to stand outside all day! I can't - my holidays are precious!

spoke with my chum at Argos, and he said had further information..

all stores stock levels are being cut somewhat to cope with the shortfall in the US..

this branch is getting 4 models (of the 12) at launch, of which, he doesnt know which..

same situation with the smart covers too..

stock won't arrive till midday on friday!

so they might not even have the model with the smart cover i'm after...

FRUSTRATING :-(

4 of 16 models? You mean 4 of 12 surely?

I'm starting to think that this 'launch' is going to a more a dribble of iPad's. If Apple cant manufacture them fast enough to launch properly why not delay for a few weeks?

This situation is starting to sound like a complete mess to me. I used to think Apple didnt like to push products out the door as fast as they could to build hype and media coverage. But the more I read from people who work in stores, just sounds like they've Royally messed this one up.

Anybody have any idea what the stock levels would be like at the Bullring Apple Store, i mean its a fairly big central place! 500/1000?

Well I think it's just a case of demand being much higher than expectations and predictions.

Having a launch with limited stock would give them some bad PR, but delaying launch by a month in a load of countries only 3 weeks after the announcement is probably worse, especially when you've already done it (last year).

Apple cant win either way.. they could have kept quiet about an iPad 2 whilst building up stock but everyone would moan and ask where it was whilst xoom and the like hit the market.. with an 26 odd countries within 3 weeks of announcing the product and knowing how popular it was going to be, you cant expect every single high st store to have shelves stacked with every flavour of iPad.

those guys working in the factories in China must be busier then santa and his elves in the lead up to christmas :D

I'm happy knowing the iPad is out and I will get one either this week, or next or maybe a few after that.. better then not knowing at all.

I would guess that stock will not be in as short supply as we all fear for launch day and that most Apple stores will have more than enough for Day 1 and into Day 2. Third party retailers will obviously receive a much smaller allocation.

Rumours of incredibly restricted stock only benefit Apple ahead of launch as it will create the queues and rush that they need for media attention. Every Apple launch I have attended in Glasgow has had the same panic over short supply of goods and on every occasion I could walk in after the crowds had vanished and buy whatever it was.

Thing is in the US the crowds still hadn't vanished a week later...

I just rang them ;)
They FREAKED OUT LOL

Haha, I rang them and they didn't seem to care at all.

Well as I was going to go into comet anyway tonight, think I'll just take a printout with me to show the manager and create a fuss.

Well, you aren't allowed to preorder anymore, all Comet employees got an emailing saying that they could break the T&C's with Apple if they continued so this wouldn't achieve much at all.
