Just to note that any retailer must have a demo unit set up in each store which will then be activated by a Apple Representative with the correct software. Once this is done, the Representative will email Head Office or some division of Apple saying it was done OK and the store will then be given the go ahead to launch at 5:00 PM. If the Representative does not turn up, the iPad 2's will not be able to go on sale until this task has been completed even if the store has stock.

Can anyone tell me? If i ordered the iPad 2 online at 1 am on Friday morning, will I be able to walk in and pick it from an Apple store or can it only be delivered to a home address?

@will123
look on saynoto0870, google it :)

ALSO GUYS, just got my orange email

Bottom of it says
"If you’re feeling lucky, and fancy a chance of winning one, why not visit the Orange shop at 32 Great Marlborough Street, London W1F 7JB this Friday the 25 March? To be in with a chance of winning you need to queue outside the shop dressed as your favourite iPad app between 4pm and 4.30pm. So switch your dress down Friday for a dress up Friday and make like an Angry Bird or Fruit Ninja down to the shop – the 10 judged to be wearing the best costumes will win an iPad 2. See full terms and conditions below. " :O

Anybody going to the Solihull Apple Store? I am going to try there but cant get there till 5:30 earliest. :(

It's a small store (the genius bar has about 3 people  , so I'm not optimistic I'll get one.

I will place an order online and also head over to Touchwood centre around 12ish. Although it is small for an Apple store I am hoping that they will have a healthy amount of stock arrive.
If they do sell out I will try HMV, Argos and the PC world which is about five mins drive away.

Ha ha that's a almost a mirror of my plan :)

Order at 1AM
Attempt to get to sleep again :D
Finish at 4:45 and race to the Touchwood centre for about 5:30
Pray for a rogue bit of stock left
If not, frantically run around local stores, as you listed

Can't wait.

Thats more or less my plan with the exception im finishing at 3:30pm. Will be running to the glasgow apple store. If I dont get it there Ill walk around to the other stores (depressed). I might try reserving one on the argos website in the morning too.

What are the chances of my getting a white 16 or 32gb wifi only iPad 2 from Covent Garden if I turn up and start queueing at 4pm on Friday?!

Anyone got any thoughts on stock? I mean, if PC world are getting 200 per store, surely Apple store will have loads? What happened with the iPhone 4? Did everyone get one?

I assume covent garden will still be closing at 9pm - which means that they have 4 hours to sell as many as possible...

Not all PC Worlds will be getting 200 / store. I think that would be the maximum. Certainly small retailers like Vodafone / CPW etc will only be getting 3-5 if they have small stores (that's their expectation anyway from talking to them).

I expect JL and big dept stores may have 2-3 of each type available, and I would suggest that would replicate across most bigger stores. If you really want choice - and can't find any local retailers that have them - GO TO AN APPLE STORE! They will have the majority!

So things are heating up, I was hoping to be able to get a favour from one of the stores I work in, but it now seems as if we're not getting any stock of iPads.

My plan is now to queue outside the Apple store in the Metro Centre, and I really do not want to have to be there before 1400, but everything seems to be falling apart.:(

edit: I do not work for Apple, it's another big electrical store.

Plan for Friday:

Finish work at 3pm, then either -

Check at PC World/Currys (<2mins from work) to see if they are stocking them? (they sell iPad 1s)
Drive to Best Buy (15 mins) get in line or start line off ;)
Drive to Bullring Apple Store (25 miles) and get in line?

Reason for Bullring option is I'm guessing they will have alot more to stock than BestBuy?

Still undecided on getting a 3g version or a wifi only (then buying a 3mifi?)

Won't be taking any of that stuff with me as will be providing my PAYG sim, and thats link is just for peeps wanting to take out a contract at the time of purchase :)

Ah that's cool, it confused me a little. I was under the impression you could just buy a 3G model, and get a free SIM for your chosen network and hand over the dosh and go, and later activate a data plan at home by contacting the carrier direct. Is this correct then? Don't want to mess around doing that in store, gonna grab one and run away back home like an excited schoolboy :):) haha

Pretty sure that's only if you want them to activate it for you. I don't really know why you would though.

I'm getting pretty nervously excited now. The wait is nearly over but then it could get even longer!

Also speeds the line up for the rest of us :)

If you end up heading to bullring PM me if you want queue buddy!
Also think about the compass and gps functions aswel as not having to carry around the mifi also. I can justify it, some people wont ever use it for navigation though.

God I love my iPad 2 on it's smart cover sitting in starbucks now...

Assume that everywhere other than apple will get between 5 - 10 iPad 2 - just like in America. They may be exactly what you want or they may not be.

Be smart - get in queue by 2pm on Friday outside apple and wait.

Only consider other options if you can't get to an Apple store.

Finally I really want a red leather smart cover but there is no way I'm auditing just for a smart cover. I'm gonna pop into apple tomo and see if I can queue jump for Friday. Yes I know you all hate me but I already have a new iPad...

You fulfill the sterotype apple fan perfectly, +1 on that :p White ipad, red cover is a nice look.

Anyone planning on getting a smart cover aswell? I might be tempted to get a PU one if they're £35. Can't justify the price for the leather version...crazy.

32GB 3g or 64 GB 3G... that is the question though. I definitely want 3G, but I'm undecided about space. Im starting to think storage space on mobile devices is becoming less important now that streaming technology is becoming more advanced, what with apple's home sharing feature, there isn't that much need to have loads of space, but I always hesitate to not buy 'the most.' haha. What does everyone think? I guess if I was going away somewhere i could just load it up with films and take them off again after so perhaps 32GB is the best deal!

32GB is more than enough for everyone if you ask me. Some people may want 64GB but I doubt they would fill it up. However due to the change in price the 64GB is now only £40 more than the equivalent 32GB 3G last year so some people may end up getting those if 32GB run out as it isn't much more.

Best bet for everyone is order online at midnight Friday then go queue.

Do not underestimate the demand and lack of stock for one second.

I'm the laziest guy ever but if I didn't already have an iPad 2 I would be in the queue by 1pm at the latest...

You know I may just join the queue at 3/4pm anyway to get accessories if I can't get into apple without joining the main queue.

Were accessories limited to only those buying new iPhones/iPads last year or could anyone wonder into apple and get them?

+1

When I'm at home, I just stream everything to my iphone now. Only time i load it up with any movies/tv shows is when i'm travelling or expecting hours of bordom.
32gb seems perfect.

Well I went into my local PC world on the way home tonight, and they told me they were getting in "under 20" of each model, so I should show up about 3 to make sure I get the model I want. Said they would be dishing out tickets to people at 5, and then selling them in ticket order. He didn't seem to think the launch was going to be a huge deal and even said "I doubt we will sell out of every model" and that "only about 10 people turned up for the iPad 1".
