From here on, the only reason I'd upgrade to a new iPad is software updates. iPad 2 is plenty fast already. As for Retina, I experienced the retina improvement from iPod to iPhone 4, so I know what it's like, but the iPad 2 gets the job done.

Hence, I need to see vast updates to iOS in a way that helps me get my work done, rather than being mired in the paradigm of just being for content consumption. Very soon, Windows 8 tablets are promising to be offer a different paradigm in tablets - i.e. designing a mobile OS designed to help people create content.

So I'm going to wait till later in the year to see what direction Windows 8 takes.

Nowadays, with Dropbox, using a Windows tablet to sync to the OSX file structure might seem a better solution, for people that need to get work done, particularly if Microsoft debuts an Office suite for their Win8 tablets.

Assuming this screen resolution is true, along with the quad core processor, the iPad could now very well be a power users tool without the need for a laptop. Photography/Aperture is the first thing that comes to mind and would be reason enough for me to buy one, but I'm also thinking about graphics modeling softwares/house modeling and other interesting things like that. The app possibilities are very exciting I think.

They can put the LTE chip inside. If no LTE signal is detected it will just fall back to 3G. The Galaxy Nexus does this. I've seen it first hand. Not a big deal, but sounds like it can do it. The real question is will it have LTE. I sure hope so. :D

you guys with iPad 2's acting like you can't sell your iPad and put it towards the new one.

if you love the iPad so much I don't see why you wouldn't wanna upgrade to the new model to make your experience THAT much better especially if you have to spend little to no money upgrading...

Everyone has sources within apple. It's a matter of whether they are giving information that's true and correct.

Sometimes plans change. iBooks Author was supposed to be September.
Apple geared up support staff months before iPhone was released and had them sitting on their hands, awaiting the actual release.

And sometimes info is plain wrong, just to see where the leaks are.

Gruber seemed to have the inside track for a while, lately it's Dalrymple, even the beloved All Things D has had a few clunkers. Nobody's completely accurate, simply because Apple won't allow it. Can't play favourites, can't afford to be dependent either. And journalists can't afford to become a mouthpiece.

I wasn't thinking of upgrading but.....LTE would be a sweet reason to change my mind.

According to various reports the difference in speed between 4G/LTE and 3G is supposed to be significant - though I'd like to see some actual metrics on that. Or user experience. Or both.

I have a MiFi 4510L on Verizon. The *slowest* routine speed I get - about 4 mbps - is about the same as the *highest* record speed I ever got with AT&T's HSPA network.

Granted, that's an Apples (see what I did there?) to Oranges comparison, but in actual fact, I've had better overall connectivity even with EvDO than I ever did on AT&T. Their network has far too many holes and dead spots - and I'm talking about the very heart of Silicon Valley - the geographic center of the Internet, if there is such a thing.

If the next iPad has LTE *AND* if it does tethering, then I will trade out my MiFi for one. But LTE on any mobile device without tethering, IMHO at least, is a complete waste of potential.

I sold my iPad 2 wifi 64gb black for $625 last week. Preparing for the upgrade. :)

Yes; me.....GPS chip for satnav (Navigon) on an almost 10" screen? :D
Trust me; if your eyes are as old / bad as mine, you'd appreciate it too.....

I just bought a plug in GPS that is supposedly better and I can use it on any iPad.
I do like having the big screen as a GPS unit too. :)

I'm worried that if I get this device I might start neglecting my MBP. Given that Lion has basically halved the battery life in my MBP it's likely that a device with 10 to 15 hours of battery life would slowly crowd out the more powerful device for mundane tasks.

Still, this is the iPad I've been waiting for, it's going to be a fantastic device with a screen that vibrant and a quad core processor.

While this is cool stuff, no way will I upgrade from my iPad2.

To me, the screen is fantastic as is, at least for my purposes. Quad core IS very nice, and I'm sure lots of apps will utilize this, but I don't use my iPad expecting the fastest of speeds. Again, for what I've done, the iPad2 is amazing as is.

If you have an iPad 1, I can see upgrading since you gain A LOT. But from an iPad 2, I'm just not seeing it.

Then again, I'm not rich. And I engraved mine so resale isn't there, but I knew that when I chose to do it.

Whoever gets it will love it, I'm sure.

PS: Funny though, the 7th is the day I can upgrade my phone, which I am. Bye bye LG Xenon, hello iPhone 4S!

The 'buy one skip one' pattern seems to work really well with the iPhone and iPad. I've just literally (today) sold my iPad 1 to get the iPad 3. I skipped the 2 as I didnt need the camera, and the speed difference was negligible till iOS 5 came out.

It's a good upgrade for iPad 1 owners, probably not so much for iPad 2 owners. Having said that, it would only cost around $80 to upgrade given how well the iPad's hold their value. My iPad 1 (32gb wifi) sold for £300 ( $473 US ). Given the iPad is £399, paying £99 to go up to the newest model is pretty decent :)

Lte

Great! Looking forward to new quad core A-chip, retina res screen and maybe LTE, as long as LTE means 4Mb/s speeds or higher. Carriers have a way of pushing meaningless technology names without guarantees. Will they increase backhaul bandwidth so we will see a real bandwidth increase?

If so, maybe we will see Siri on the iPad 3 and see Siri work when there is no wi-fi. (it seems to need a lot of bandwidth to the brain in the cloud.)

I know what you mean. I downgraded from a mbp to a mba as I was using the ipad a lot, but didnt want to go completely without a keyboard on the go. Perfect combo!

I'm ready

roll on iPad 4

So...now that that's pretty much confirmed, when do the rumours start for the iPad4 :D:p

Cannot wait!! I'm all set to go because one of my friends are buying my iPad 2 off me the day after the 3 launches. This iPad sure looks to be awesome! iPad 3 128GB+LTE here I come :)

Now what we want to know is when can we get one? Last year it was the end of the following week (would be March 16 ) but I hope it will be the 9th.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A334 Safari/7534.48.3)

...it shure sounds nice and all, but I still can't figure out what I would need an iPad for... of course, mags, books and various music apps... but still... no, I hope they keep the mba 11" around for a while still, now there's a machine I could see some real use for!

ya right... they are comming out with a quad core tablet before a quadcore macbook air and 13" macbook pro???!!!! I find it hard to believe.

I've never even considered getting an iPad with 3G because the iPhone creates a personal hotspot. I already have an excellent data plan on my iPhone. If I had a 3G iPad, I'd have to get yet another separate plan. I never use up my iPhone's data plan so it's better to share data with both iPad and iPhone.

Has anybody with an iPhone (or another personal hotspot enabled phone) purchased a 3G iPad? Why? What are the advantages?

Nope. My iPad 2 is wifi only and I did the same as you. I really don't see the need for a 3g iPad. And I hardly have to use my hotspot at that as most places I'm at have wifi...

Most people feel that way...then when they get one...they realize that it's something they've been missing.

Now mind you, I even after getting the iPad1, was like...hmm...did I really need it...but after a while you realize you start doing everything other then really time consuming tasks on it like word processing or your main work on a desktop. It really is the living room/coffee shop device.

Keyboard dock for the iPad rocks. Cannot tell you how many people really need to get that. Once you get that you realize you don't need a MBA.

I'm ready for the iPad 3 since I already sold my iPad 16GB Wi-Fi
Will get the white iPad 3 this time instead of black since I never owed a white product yet from Apple it will be my first time picking white :)
