Nope. You don't get it.

Apple wouldn't be increasing their release cycle. They'd be moving their release date over, but they wouldn't do it the next year, where we'd go 1 and a half years waiting for it.

That's the point. And it makes sense.

In that respect I can see it happening. Just like the iPods, announcing it in September/October would be perfect for the holiday season.
If that's the case then the iPad 2 upgrade should be a marginal one (unfortunately). :(

Bs unless....

This can't be true unless they delay the iPad 2 tell this fall. It makes much more sense then to release a 2nd gen with very little change (RAM, CPU...) then release a third gen 6 months later with a retina display.

One of the great strengths of the Android Model is availability more up-to-date hardware, so this may be the only way Apple can respond to the impending slaughter.

not really - the nexus s, which is supposed to be the reference platform for android has effectively the same specs as the iphone. marginal differences here and there.

besides specs don't tell the whole story (see all those android phones with 7MP cameras that can't come close to the iphone's 5MP) and beyond that apple doesn't compete on specs, they compete on experience and that's an area that android simply can't compete outside of the geeks who love tron themes.

Looking at the iPhone and iPod touch, that will happen this year. Web iOS 3.0 came out, the original iPhone couldn't support MMS because the hardware couldn't support it.... Yes it could. Also when iOS 3.0 came out, the 3G didn't get voice control, or video capturing yet the iPhone 3GS could. Jailbreakers have had video capturing and voice control on the 3G and ORIINAL iPhone.

I once jail broke my old 3G, and one of my on-screen displays was the CPU and memory monitor, even having something mundane as a custom wallpaper on the 3G ate up precious RAM, leaving little to spare. It's after things like this I can know with confidence that Apple does these this for good reason.

I would love that. Lol!! All of the iPad 1 owners would then upgrade to 3. Bam...iPad 2 release is nothing big within three to four months. Times fifty if it included Retina Display.

this is a ridiculous rumor.

it means that ipad 3 will be released in usa while ipad 2 will be just released in some countries.

totally bs.

People thought the verizon iphone was possibly the iphone 5. Apple may vhoose to treat the ipad like its computer lines giving it faster refreshes. You have to also realize the refresh rate has more to do with competition. The ipod has no real competion it doesnt require alot of attention to maintain it. The iphone has increasing competion if apple sees sales start to slip the will react, why do you think the released the verizon iphone now instead of in june. Its a sales boost. Ipad is a new product abd its just as much if not more so a computer than any of the ios devices so far. And it created a brand new catagory. Apple has immense competition in the tablet market. Theres both computer makers and mobile phone makers eager to fill the new catagory with possibly viable products. Thus apple needs to put the ipad far enough out of there reach in order to maintain a healthy lead.

Perhaps the iPad 3 release is being confused with the very similar TouchPad. :D

Apple should have purchased Palm (only for the patents).

My income plus my fiancees = a good life.

How many Fiances do you have? I bet that is a good life! ;) I can think of at least one advantage...

logical conclusions????

ok at first i was a little "wtf" about all of this. it really makes little sense to introduce something if you are going to abandon it less than a year later . tech moves fast but not that fast amigo .

but alas my logic started seeping thought the rage and confusion.

logical conclusion #1
iPad1 is selling balls on fire crazy right now. hold something like 75% of the tablet market. so they have the clout to ride them coat tails for a while
which means no update this spring. but a more loaded update in the fall to better compete with the new kids on the block

(this would piss me off cuz i just got my tax money back and i was hoping to be irresponsible and blow it on a new ipad like...in a few weeks.)

Logical conclusion #2
we see the birth of the 7' iPad. think about it. September is their media event. ipods/itunes/ yadda yadda. so we get (what some people would assume by hear-say) the ipad3 when in fact its nothing more then that weird bastard child of the ipod touch and the ipad (the iPoad?) which of course would fit Mr.Jobs comment on 7' tablets being useless.
cuz this aint no tablet! its a 7' PMP its like a more robust ipod touch. cheaper then the ipad less junk in the trunk but deff a kick butt little diddy that will entertain get you games and movies and prob have a front facing camera for that lovely facetime that only works when you have friends....(where can i get my iFreinds STEVE!!!)

so yeah those two conclusions ive come to...

delayed ipad or new product altogether.

and now for an apple ....:apple:

It would be nuts to release a third version 6 months after the second version - these things aren't cheap.

But perhaps they'll have two types simultaneously? Kind of like Amazon did when they released the Kindle 2 and the Kindle DX.

Apple quite regularly updates their computer line, worth much more than the iPad, twice per year. What's to stop them doing that with the iPad? The opinion of a few forum posters that they'll "be nuts"?

I think I'll side with Gruber on this one

Relax. iOS 5 in September is a given.

iPod Touch to use it along with the iPad 2 and iPhone 5 are a given.

iPad 3 is Mr. Gruber showing he has no connections to Apple or just wants more exposure be turning predictable outcomes into pure rumor.

Oh come on this is getting ridiculous already. I like Apple, but I will never buy another Apple product again if this is true.

There should be some kind of consumer law banning companies from making new versions of their products sooner than a year and a half. Their just ripping people off and creating huge amounts of toxic waste. Very unappealing

I screwed up. I have a sleeping disorder that royally makes me stupid when I don't get enough sleep.

Never gonna happen - Spring is the ideal time of year for a device like the iPad - you get sales all year long, a bump from "back to school", a BIG bump in the Holidays, once again a small one with tax returns, then you get to immediately repeat it. Best bang for buck.
