Oh come on this is getting ridiculous already. I like Apple, but I will never buy another Apple product again if this is true.

There should be some kind of consumer law banning companies from making new versions of their products sooner than a year and a half. Their just ripping people off and creating huge amounts of toxic waste. Very unappealing

What? Seriously?

How about:

iPad 2 in March with iOS 4.3

WWDC in June - iOS 5 demoed and released to developers

iPhone 5 in July with iOS 5

iPod Touch with iOS 5 in September. iOS 5 for iPad also released. "One more thing" - 7" iPad with Retina Display and iOS 5.

Stretch - Apple TV 3 with iOS 5 supporting apps, broader AirPlay support.

It's not a rumor it's a guess....that Gruber stated was a guess with no inside info. It's just a guess....nothing more.

I don't agree with Gruber. If his assertion is true, then why not release all new products in September. That way, it is just a few months away from Christmas season. iPad is not like mac computers where they refresh them anywhere from 9 to 20 months. iPhone and iPod products are refreshed annually to use latest technology, because mobile space is moving faster. Trucks are moving slower recent times. iPad is a new category and it is moving a rapid pace in technology. So, it makes sense to renew annually. During the birth stage, it is annoying to get it for Christmas and come April a new one is out. However, next Christmas is 8 months away. Plus, iPad can be a great gift for birthdays and for school. So, it being release early Spring makes sense to me. We can break it in and enjoy summer playing games and getting used to the device. Come fall, we will use it for school. It is not cheap like subsidized phone or an iPod. So, some of us cannot afford it So, receiving it for birthday or Christmas makes sense. Gruber's logic is wrong. Now Apple can release an iPad in Spring, iPhone in Summer, iPod touch/ipod music players in Fall. Plus, they refresh major computers as necessary when new processors come available. Processor chips for mobile moving faster. We are already dealing with dual core and later quad core in NGP.

Seriously doubt the iPad 3 will come out in the fall. Most likely software only. Apple doesn't need to increase its release cycle. Not to mention its holiday quarters continuously break records as is. It doesn't need a new iPad. I call ********. iPad 3 in April 2012.

Why would they not do it, apple likes the spotlight and having two ipad releases in one year would blow the pants off the competition first with a top notch ipad for those who waited and then with a retina display that is as good as the iphone just for fun. :D

Oh the inhumanity of it all

Ooohhhhhh, this is awesome.

I have the iPad 1.

I give that to my wife (or I keep it).

I had always planned to get the iPad 2. Keep it (or give it to my wife).

Repeat with iPad 3, but for my younger daughter.

Repeat with iPad 4, but for my older daughter.

In that order, because I just got my older daughter the new MacBook Pro -- actually now almost the "old" MacBook Pro.

LOL this will hurt the sales of iPad2...

Yes I agree. Apple seems to becoming a bit fragmented. A bit uncertain. Unlike the Apple we know from a scant year ago. It's as thought they are unravelling a bit yet managing well. Despite the inner uncertainties my stock still climbs, the "Cool Toys" factor is still in the publics mind. So all in all, Apple is managing to keep it together. Time will tell what the future of the Cupertino juggernaut will be.

One of the great strengths of the Android Model is availability more up-to-date hardware, so this may be the only way Apple can respond to the impending slaughter.

Don't know if it will work though.

Apple has it in the bag, Android has nothing but hot air. Spec sounds great till you actually use it and find nothing really functional there.

I like to see apple pull this out of the hat and just blow everyone out of the water, oh the crazy chicken run the rest of the industry would be doing makes me just :D

I'm getting the ipad2, then I'll get the ipad3, the ipad4...

...then I'll get the next apple big obvious thing which some at apple are busy inventing now...

Think about this, while every one was busy creating cheap netbooks, apple was finalizing the iPad.

Now every one is busy copying apple, while apple is inventing the future today... Never gets old.

gruber is a goober.

this is indeed ridiculous. if they are releasing an ipad 2 in march/april, then an ipad HD or ipad pro in the fall? that would be so stupid, and i'd be pretty pissed about that, having purchased an ipad 2 by that time. i hope it's not true.

Whatever Mr. Gruber is smoking it must have been a really good batch. iPad 3 in Sept. Ha. Ha. Ha. I wonder if he saw it flying and dancing in day-glo colors with unicorns and faeries.

It's not gonna happen for the same reason Apple didn't launch the first iPad at a fall iPod event -- money. As in people can only spend so much at one time and also as in constant Apple cash flow source. Apple relies on the constant upgrade schedule to keep profits growing year round.

For those of you who are putting off even buying the second rev. iPad simply because another one MAY be released five months later, then you simply don't need an iPad to begin with.

I agree completely. Until one starts using the iPad on a daily basis, one has no idea now phenomenal it is.

Two days in a row, while substituting teaching, I pulled out my iPad to help students with "Hamlet" which I already had on the iPad (for free), and then in the next class, downloaded "Romeo and Juliet" in 30 seconds (again, for free) to help a more junior class.

It was truly incredible, and that's just 2 minutes out of 24 hours/day with the iPad. Yes, it's next to my bed.

People shouldn't blog while drunk, high or sleep deprived. Gruber included.

Apple isn't going to release a new Model iPad, 6 months after the previous new model. That defies logic/sanity.

Not at all likely unless Apple has "blown" the iPad 2 design. The only way I can see this happening is if Apple only planned minor updates for the iPad 2 and therefore was completely surprised by the competition's adaption of dual-core ARM9 CPUs with much improved graphics.

So, if the iPad 2 just gets front and rear cameras and keeps using a single-core A4-like CPU design then Apple WILL need to rush to introduce a much improved iPad 3.

How about Apple start focusing on OSX Lion :p. Honestly I've used an iPad, and its a great experience no doubt. But does it really replace a desktop? Not for me, and I think its the same for the vast majority of people. I'm a bit worried as to what will happen to OSX Lion, I don't know how Apple is managing creating iPad 2, 3 & iPhone 4, 5, along with OSX.. I have really high expectations of OSX Lion, I would be really disappointed if there isn't a new interface, so far the preview we've seen for OSX Lion wasn't a game changer, Infact it's a lot like Snow Leopard, with features that we could probably go without..

Anyway thats just my thoughts :p, I use Mac OSX as my primary OS, I've got an iPod Touch that hardly ever use.. I would really like Apple to start focusing on Macs..

A competitor just recommended you wait to buy because there could be a new one just around the corner if you, well wait?... Clever.

If the iPad 3 DOES come out in 2011, I am gonna be SOOOO pissed. I held off on buying the first iPad so I could go for the iPad 2 for the better technology. I don't want to buy something just to have it obsolete in just a few months.

Even if this story is false, it's gonna hurt iPad 2 sales.
