gruber is a goober.

this is indeed ridiculous. if they are releasing an ipad 2 in march/april, then an ipad HD or ipad pro in the fall? that would be so stupid, and i'd be pretty pissed about that, having purchased an ipad 2 by that time. i hope it's not true.

Why don't you read this article a little better and understand WHY this might happen.

It would help you out to not have such ignorant of an opinion.

So, apple wants to move iPad production cycle to September... Okay.
So, they will release iPad 2 in March/April and update iPad 3 in September?

I certainly would not mind. But, this is not going to happen.

!!!

OMG !!! The reaction in the forums is unbelievable !! It's amazing! Can't people diffrentiate facts from rumors ?!!!:confused:

Could be the $399 iPad in September. Or remain the entry model and more expensive ones gain the retina display.

ipad2 on schedule

ios 5 september

Surprise: one more thing:

What if the iphone, the ipad and an ipod touch would hook up:

Magical 7 inch itouchpad with Retina display

etc. etc.

This is something we are very excited about:)

Honestly I've used an iPad said:
For heaven's sake: the iPad does NOT replace a desktop. I know when I'm walking around the room monitoring students, holding a desktop would be a bit cumbersome -- and dragging that extension cord.

The iPad does NOT replace the iPhone.

The iPad has its own niche. It's part of the system -- desktop, laptop, iPad, iPhone. When flying, take both the laptop and the iPad (and, of course, the iPhone). But when in those cramped seats, and don't want to get out the big laptop just to surf the net while waiting to take off, pull out the iPad.

This is not rocket science.

I don't see why everyone is mad.
Your product will be outdated someday. It will just happen few months sooner. Is there a problem with that? Sell yours before then.

I kind of agree why apple wants to move the product cycle.

Glad I still have my iPad. iPad 2 owners... be prepare for disappointment. Your iPad will have no retina display, 1 megapixel camera and 512 ram.

iPad 3 will be released in only 5 months after you bought yours and guess what. Retina display.

Apple seems to has a cost advantage on the iPad, so I would guess that they will play off of that.

So my guess is that it will be an updated iPad 2 in September that will have NFC ability and will have an option to upgrade the screen to retina specs. Think of it as the iPad 2 - PRO. The iPad 2 will undercut the competition in price, while the iPad 2-PRO will be available for about 10% more than the competition.

Did you notice that the HP pad is 1.6 lbs. iPad 2 will be at round 1lb....maybe less. HP will seem like a brick in price and weight.

Ooohhhhhh, this is awesome.

I have the iPad 1.

I give that to my wife (or I keep it).

I had always planned to get the iPad 2. Keep it (or give it to my wife).

Repeat with iPad 3, but for my younger daughter.

Repeat with iPad 4, but for my older daughter.

Planning the same thing. :p

Seriously... this rumor is a non-rumor. The guy that said the rumor said he didn't know. Makes no sense. Apple tries not to churn out crap to keep up with Jones's.

To comment about the "Android Slaughter".... we will see, but I doubt it.

Personally, Apple's already miles ahead with the general consumer. Apple is viewed as the leader. The one to beat. The product that' s part of a total family of products and those products have a reputation of being reliable, clean, well designed and fun. Sorry... but some of the other tab makers don't have the same reputation and are known for churning product out so fast they outdate themselves most times within a month or two. You can have'm!

One of the biggest failings I see is the part above that I bolded. I find that people don't understand the family. Nobody outside of the fold seems to realize how well the products work together. People are surprised when I tell them things like:

The iPhone can control the AppleTV over WIFI.
iTunes can play audio over the Airport Express in another room.
Video can be streamed from the iPad or iPhone to the AppleTV.
The AppleTV can control my iTunes library.
Etc.

The integration between the products will only get better. Readers of this forum understand that but the people I speak to (tech and non-tech alike) don't have a clue as to what Apple has done.

Well that would be a clear indication they realize that competition is heating up. That's why competition is great...it forces faster innovation.

And I'm sure Apple is happy to have these rumors come out as it will just give people another reason (other than the lame 'upgrades') to skip the iPad 2.

Just a theory

This doesn't even rise to the level of a rumor. Gruber threw this out in a column and now people are going to postpone iPad 2 purchases???

My suggestion: buy your iPad 2 and if Gruber is correct, put it on eBay in Sept.

Though a long term AAPL investor I am an IP4 newbie, and it soon becomes obvious how Apple products have such great symbiosis, that simply keeps cintinually evolving. Very much part of what makes AAPL so enjoyable. People like exploring what is familiar, and the majority of cimpanies and products are simply noise to most consumer minds, with AAPL as the beacon that guides them back to easy understanding and enjoyment. Nobody will ever beat AAPL, and I'm not just saying that because AAPL has made me richer than I ever hoped.

How about Apple start focusing on OSX Lion :p. Honestly I've used an iPad, and its a great experience no doubt. But does it really replace a desktop? Not for me, and I think its the same for the vast majority of people. I'm a bit worried as to what will happen to OSX Lion, I don't know how Apple is managing creating iPad 2, 3 & iPhone 4, 5, along with OSX.. I have really high expectations of OSX Lion, I would be really disappointed if there isn't a new interface, so far the preview we've seen for OSX Lion wasn't a game changer, Infact it's a lot like Snow Leopard, with features that we could probably go without..

Anyway thats just my thoughts :p, I use Mac OSX as my primary OS, I've got an iPod Touch that hardly ever use.. I would really like Apple to start focusing on Macs..

Well, I was just concentrating on iOS and iPad to follow the thread topic, but I fully expect a lot of talk about Lion at WWDC, with new iMacs and Macbooks installed with Lion in the fall.

However, on the Mac side, I think the big story this coming year will be all hardware related, with Sandy Bridge (maybe Ivy Bridge) processors, and thinner/lighter Macbook Pros that follow the design cues of the Air.

This is just wishful thinking for the people that are holding off for the iPad 3
COME ON!! We don't even know what the iPad 2 is going to bring yet. Also It doesn't make sense for Apple to Update the iPod and iPad at the same event.
By releasing the iPad around the January-April time frame gives apple the advantage to make a slight change in hardware before the keynote just to make the next-gen iPad better then the tablets we see at CES. I have been waiting over a year for an iPad and I am going to get the iPad 2 the day it comes out. I'm sick of waiting.
I recall there was rumors about the iPad 2 coming out around fall also. Did it happen? No. This is the same case

"When you keep waiting for better technology you will never get the device you want, You will just keep waiting" (I made this up)

It actually does make sense. An iOS devices event?

To everyone that says Gruber is out of his mind. You must be new here because the guy has quite a reputation for these types of predictions (and often is pretty close or right on the money).

As crazy as it may sound let's not forget what happened with the original iPhone. Originally released in 4GB and 8GB flavors in June of 2007. Then a slightly upgraded 16GB model was released in Feb. 2008. Coincidentally this was timed right outside of the return window for anyone that purchased an iPhone after there was no announcement of a 16GB model at Macworld a month prior. I remember it clearly as I was one of those people.

I could very well see an iPad w/ retina display released in Sept., even if that's the only major change. (no storage, memory, or processor bump)

iPad 3 rumors already? I don't see Apple releasing it (presumably) 5-6 months after the 2. That would be what I'd call a douchebag move.

Oh please... this reminds me of that "arguing on the internet is like running in the special oylmpics".

Trying to predict what the iPad 3 will be like (and even the iPad 2) is almost the same analogy (you're still retarded at the end of the day).

Seriously, just let Apple do their thing. Enough with all these freakin "surfacing cases" and all this other crap lately. I know this site is focused around rumors, but iPad 3!!?? Too far.

Additional signs for a September/Fall iPad release

The iPad is quickly accounting for a larger percentage of Apple's revenues, so it makes sense for management to want to maximize the revenue-generating potential of this device.

A fall re-fresh thus makes sense due to its proximity to X'mas sales.

What else might point to Apple shifting the product updates to the fall timeframe?

If the forthcoming iPad 2 announcement is not a big affair, then that would, for such an important product as the iPad is in its lineup, suggest that a bigger announcement (i.e., iPad HD or whatever) would occur sooner (i.e., fall 2011) than later (i.e., spring 2012).
