That is like saying I am going to skip iPhone5 because iPhone6 is going to come out right after it. There is no way, let me repeat, NO WAY THAT APPLE IS GOING TO REFRESH THE iPAD FOUR MONTHS AFTER IT RELEASES A NEW VERSION. IT WILL NOT HAPPEN.

Other companies release slightly or in some cases, significantly improved versions of their products on a 6-month cycle, why not Apple? It would allow them to respond faster to the competition. Anyway, I think it's unlikely that Apple will do that, but like I said in an earlier post, it's been an usual year so far for Apple.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

Omg...this apple obsession is seriously out of control. iPad 2 with small tech buff...only to be followed by a new model? Seems like a way to piss off alot of iPad 2 owners. But who cares right? It's all about market share and profit.

That is the best way to describe what will happen when you have an OS that is on par with iOS for tablets, with cheaper, more varied hardware, and more current hardware.

I am just curious why you believe that will happen, when after a year no one else has been able to match the iPad in quality and price?

EDIT: Especially with the speculation that Apple has locked down screen suppliers with it looking like a retina display coming either in September or early next year. Sounds like something that Android tablets won't likely be able to match.

Also, Gruber commented that it would likely be an iPad 2.5 or an iPad HD rather then the third iPad.

I'm calling it, it's the "Kindle-killer".

7-incher with Retina display, advertise it towards kids and e-reader fans, and mark ipod touch prices down so that the low end model will be $350

Apparently the 'fall surprise' will be software related.
Agreed but I think that will be Lion. I think they will show Lion demos "full blown demos" not the sneak peak we got last time. This will be at WWDC in June. Apple will announce that Lion will ship in the fall. iPad 3 won't be for another year.

One of the great strengths of the Android Model is availability more up-to-date hardware, so this may be the only way Apple can respond to the impending slaughter.

Don't know if it will work though.

The impending slaughter ?? Why is it that Apple is the one that is going to be slaughtered. These other companies keep pushing specs because that is all they have. The majority of iPad/iPhone users are not geek types that need all of that customization. The majority of people want things to be simple and work. Apple fills that requirement better than anyone else ever has. The complete ecosystem is just that...complete. Its simple and it works very very well. This is why the others cant compete. They dont get it so they compare their specs to Apples stuff. How else did a 9 month old iPhone break Verizon's first day sales record in a matter of a couple of hours. Because people want what works and are willing to overlook specs to get it. So before you write off Apple, remember why they are so successful. Oh, and quit comparing the year old iPad to the new guys on the block. Wait until Apple releases new hardware with a new iOS and then compare.

Just my thought,
Jason

No Retina display = NO BUY.

This. At least, for any current iPad 1 owner.

iPad 2, whether this rumor is true or not, is not going to be worth upgrading to.

iPad 1 is more than capable. When Apple makes huge improvements to the resolution, then I'll care.

if you going 7-incher wouldn't it make more sense in the same proportions as the iPod Touch instead of the iPad.

iPad 2 targeting new customers who don't have an ipad.
iPad 3 targeting existing ipad 1 customers who want to upgrade (most likely all of them)

Resulting in a customer buying cycle!

iPad 4 upgrade for those ipad 2 customers
iPad 5 upgrade for those ipad 3 customers
...
cycle continues.

No..just no. Gruber said that he was guessing anyway.
It's stupid we're talking about the iPad 3 before we even have a launch date for the iPad 2 event..

iPad being replaced like the iPod line ups? Lol, that's a good laugh. Does anyone know how expensive that is? I know Apple is the biggest tech company, but that money would be better spent on Hologram technology.

Although, as Tekker said, in September Apple might release iPad Mini, which will be a 7" e-reader. That makes sense.

This. At least, for any current iPad 1 owner.

If you hope the iPad 2 would have a "Retina" display like the iPhone 4 then you're sadly mistaken. Do you know how much more expensive it would be for that screen size?

But a bit higher resolution? That would be nice, but it won't be 4x. I don't expect that until the real iPad 3.

It's possible that Apple wants to move the release schedule of the iPad to Fall to coincide with the holiday season. They can't wait till September to release an iPad 2 because it would be too long a wait. So it's possible that Apple is just going to bite the bullet and get through the criticism of releasing an iPad 3 so early so they can release an iPad 4 in September 2012.

Or most likely, Apple doesn't care.

I think the iPad would make more sense with the iphone refresh than the iPods. So it would make sense if Apple tried to bump up the refresh cycle a couple months to align with the iphone in 2012.

iPad 2 in late march/ early april 2011
iPad 3 in December/January
iPad 4 in late june/early july 2012
iPad 5 in late june/early july 2012

No one wants to buy two 10 inch iPad's for the home.

Solution:

Buy iPad 10 inch for the wife and iPad 7 inch for the husband.

So, please start making a 7 inch version of iPad :D

i just want a god damn announcement about ipad 2 already. that's all i want. i don't even care if it's that much better, i just want to get it already.

iPad 3 in an event usually reserved for Ipod & iPod Touch? My guess is a slight bump of iPad 2 along with a new form factor: iPad Mini, or iPod Touch Max:rolleyes:

I think he was trying to spread false rumors to hurt the sales of iPad 2.
If you start a rumor saying iPad 3 will come out at the end of the year, your hoping that no one will buy iPad 2 providing time for your product to come out so that there are more customer available to buy HP Touchpad

Keep in mind, the more customers who buy iPad 2 the less customers available to buy HP TouchPad. So, the solution is to create a false rumor in hopes to trick the customers so that there are more of them when TouchPad comes out.

Yeah, because the iPad didn't sell at all last year during the holidays. This is complete B.S. iPad 3 will be next year.

iPad3 in fall..... no fricken way.

I know what it will be and it will bring the world as you know it to it's knees....
