My 'local' Apple Store is almost 100 miles away, but I think it could be a cool morning out to do that at the "end of April"**.
I'm going to start up a meetup for the Victoria Square Apple Store in Belfast if that's your closest one. :)

at least we wont have a ton of fanboys with more money than sense that will go and buy a wifi model knowing that a 3g model is coming a few weeks later who will end up putting that on ebay and buy a 3g one instead....

Agreed, this is agonising!

last time i checked getting stabbed in the neck with a screwdriver was agonising...not having a product you didnt know you wanted in the first place isnt that sore to be honest...
:D

thanks for the pain steve..:)

So few app reviews, everyone is too busy using their iPad, review sites are literally silent..

I take it that was aimed at me.

I'm not sure what the problem is, I'm certainly no fanboy [have an iPhone] but I work very hard for my money and if I choose to buy a wifi model from the US then get it shipped in I am well within my right to?

If I then decide that I would be better with the 3G model when it arrives in the UK then I will obviously sell my wifi model on ebay, although not to make a profit.

What exactly is wrong with that.. ?

Nothing at all, you don't have to justify yourself. We are all entitled to spend our hard earned readies how we see fit. If Apple doesn't pull its finger out and announce some UK pricing, I may well be joining you.

Who here is so sad that they have downloaded free iPad apps from the US store and is now just looking at them wishing they had an iPad? *raises hand*

Cool, I'm up for that. I guess you know where to find me! :D

Room for one more? I'm in Ireland as well... the wait hurts :(

Anyway here's what I see happening:

There won't be any annoucement this week, because the iPad launch was too close
Next week they will announce an event for the following Tuesday
At that event they will show off OS 4.0 (To be available in June/July) and also sales figures for the first two weeks of iPad. Finally they will tell us European pricing and launch the following week :p

Pure speculation! :D

I was so close to doing that yesterday, but then I knew I'd be straight onto eBay, justifying the purchase 'Well, I've got all these apps now.....'

It's slightly worrying if they aren't going to have pre-orders, I really don't want a queue-fest with people going home empty-handed.. a waste of time all round.

hahaha, Your not the only one, I also very nearly accidentally bought Geometry Wars as well!

Its getting quite tough now, gone through most of the mac forums etc and just want it now - I'm learning to be alot patient thats for sure.

I'm hoping an announcement this week (but I said that last weekend too!) but I doubt it.

I agree. Although not sure if that would be a fair way to do things in the UK (& the other selected countries due for late April release), not everyone has an Apple Store nearby. It was different for iPhone where o2 and the Crapphone Whorehouse were involved. But hey, who the hell knows what they have planned for us by now.
**Cue the unicorns with iPads strapped to their backs**

EDIT: I was so busy thinking about those unicorns that I forgot to also say that I meant that I think they will have to sell via preordering for home delivery on launch day also (due to lack of Apple Store locations in UK).

I've gone one better. A friend of mine will be bringing me a dock and a case when he visits on April 17th.

He called me from the North Michigan Ave Apple store in Chicago yesterday evening to tell me they still had 20 in stock and did I want one of them. I picked up the phone and this voice said "I have touched the face of God!".

He and I are waiting for the 3G so I declined. It was hard though.

So I have apps, accessories, but no iPad!

I agree that with some places so far from Apple store locations that pre-order home delivery is a dead cert.

I wonder who Apple have lined up to be retail "friends" probably the DSG group (PC World, Currys etc)? Or maybe even somewhere like Tesco?

I'm very lucky, I have three Apple stores near by, one in Westfield one in Brent Cross (closest) and the flagship store in Regent's Street. Still not sure whether I should opt for delivery or just pick one up - will have to decide nearer the time.

I'm not interested in hone delbert unless they can guarantee it to arrive launch day. Otherwise I just want to be able to reserve an iPad to pick up at the store, here in Exeter our Apple Store is quite small and altough this is a small city the store is HUGELY popular and I can just see queues down Princess Hay and them selling out within an hour..

I'm still unsure too.

There is usually a good vibe at the stores on a launch day, but it seems so much easier to just book for home delivery.

Also where you allowed to reserve at two different stores? I'm near to both Bluewater and Regent St so unsure if the option is there which to go for.

My nearest one is in Southamton - I'm in Bournemouth. That store is always too busy :/

Open a damn store here, you will get tonnes of customers!

Actually I think Apple's problem at the moment is that when they open stores they get too many customers to handle.

Ok, so now I've funded my US iTunes account, so will be buying some apps later.

Looklng at the eBay prices, I may be just as well getting a flight from Heathrow to JFK and having a mini-break into the bargain.

*googles cheap flights to NYC*

Seconded, I'm also in Bournemouth, and pretty fed up with the solutions Apple reseller we have to put up with!
